Lighting Supermarket Mother and Child Floor Lamp - Uplighter & Adjustable Reading Lamp - Satin Silver - Complete with LED Bulbs

This item is received as a "do-it yourself assembly kit". The instructions comprise of 1No sheet which has a diagram of the "Mother & Child Lamp" (MCL) and numbers against it to represent the order in which the parts are to be assembled. To make life simpler for those who decide to purchase this product, here is how I found it best to assemble the lamp; 1. Screw the stand (with the cable through it) to the middle (switch) section of the lamp - you will need to pull excess cable through to the base as you marry the 2No ends together 2. Screw the 2nd stand to the middle (switch) section of the lamp 3. Bolt the other end of the stand (with the cable through it) to the base using the spanner provided - this could be fiddly to align the base and the weight behind it to push the treaded end of the stand through 4. Bolt the 2nd stand to the base 5. Whilst lying on the floor, secure the "Mother" part of the lamp to the stand using the 2No grub screws using the provided Alan key (I found the screws were already in the hole, with 2No spares provided) 6. Fix the dome glass to the "Mother" part of the lamp via the fixings using the screw driver provided and screw the bulb (provided) in place 7. Stand the lamp upright. Unscrew the fixing which holds the shade for the "Child" lamp, place the shade in place, screw back in the fixing to secure the shade using the adaptor provided and screw the bulb (provided) in place Follow the above instructions and you can't go wrong (I hope!!). The base is quite heavy and kept it stable on laminate flooring. However, I needed to place the lamp on carpet where it was slightly wobbly, but since it was in a corner, the walls keep it steady. The lamp is operated via 2No independent turn switches (1No for the "Mother" and 1No for the "Child" lamps), which simply turn the lamps on or off (the switch/lamp is NOT dimmable). This is a great product and lights-up the room adequately (as background lighting) with either one or both lamps switched on - well recommended!!

Good value and fairly straightforward to assemble although a little fiddly. Good to have the bulbs included. Not totally stable on a carpet but fine on a wooden floor.

OK in the end, although it stands a bit wonky. The worst thing was how difficult it was to put together. It took 2 of us ages and some of it was really fiddly. Best thing is that it has LED bulbs, which were included.

Lamp great quality but the lights don’t have a dim function

This is the worst item I have ever bought. Assembly wasn’t very easy especially when my son came to fixing the reading light. The screw fitting to attach the shade to the lamp proved very difficult. Even my electrician who was here doing another job struggled. The shade didn’t attach properly and is loose and on completion does not work!! The main light is very dull. I absolutely detetest this lamp and will cut my losses and relegate it to the attic. With hindsight I should have read the reviews, which I normally do but on this occasion didn’t to my cost. Enough said.

You really need two people to assemble, but once done, a good light, just what we needed and the fact that two bulbs were included was a welcome bonus.

It looks very nice in my lounge. I found it rather difficult to put together but most of these lights seem to be. Was pleased that the bulbs were included and also that they were much easier to fit than the usual stick like bulbs which usually come with these lights and I always have difficulty in replacing them. I am pleased with my purchase.

Easy to assemble. Love the black chrome colour although it's difficult to describe it,The lamp sits nicely in the corner of the room without sticking out like a sore thumb.. Found the uplighting a bit bright but this is personal taste and easy to rectify by changing the light bulb. Only real complaint is the arm of the child lamp. Makes a horrible creaking noise when it's moved and looks a bit tacky but at £49.99 I can live with it. The light given out by this lower lamp is really good and allowed me to hem my black trousers using black thread..
