This little part is what controls the amount of cutter string that advances automatically. It is not held in to the spinning head and can be easily damaged or lost, especially if the head's retaining cap self destructs from normal wear and tear.When I installed a new replacement, my Grasshog started working wonderfully again. I was glad to find that the replacement could be purchased on Amazon.My only complaint is against Black & Decker. IMO this vital small inexpensive wear part should be included with the replacement retaining caps sold, even if the price of the retaining cap needs to be increased. It shouldn't be necessary to purchase this part separately.
