Watch a set up tutorial on YouTube
It’s a very powerful bike computer. Probably a better value than the 850. Two things that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. First, the ridiculously hard to read Manuel is worthless. It’s a complex device and once you understand it relatively easy to navigate, but it is not intuitive. I highly recommend the YouTube video by. VELOGPS to help you figure out how to set up your data screens. If you’re a cyclist who rise in big groups, there’s all sorts of data screens to work with. This video show shows you how to set up data screens that will fit your needs and get rid of those that don’t do much for you. Trust me when I tell you, you will be lost without watching an instructional video in advance. Second, the screen is on the small side. This is where the 850 may be Light /ly I/ better for you because it has a bigger screen, even though the computer itself is the same same size. You won’t be able to navigate using the maps unless you have a ride that’s preloaded and gives you turn by turn guidance.

Garmin 840 Rocks
The Garmin 840 is very good. It arrived ahead of the projected delivery date. The reason I don’t give 5 stars is because of that junky charger that came with the bundle. It never worked. I didn’t want the lousy thing anyway. No other sellers had the Garmin in stock at that time, so I chalked it down to the extra $5 cost of getting it sooner.

Paying extra for solar is useless
The 90’s called, they want their graphics back. The graphics remind me of the Tomagotchi toy that I bought my niece in the late 90’s. The temperature, map, and elevation data was never accurate. It tells me I’m elevating as I’m going downhill. I got the 840 solar unit. You can leave it in a window sill all day and it will barely charge. To top it off, I had to pay 24 bucks to ship it back.
