51mm Bottomless Portafilter 2 Ear for De-longhi ECP3420/EC155/BCO430/EC260

Extremely well made. Fits into the De Longhi perfectly, no leaks. Makes a good espresso though there is less crema than on a regular portafilter, but I attribute that to the 15 lb pressure on the machine more than anything else. I'm very happy with this unit.

This is a quality piece. Precise metal work, wood, and shiny chrome with no blemishes. The filter basket is about 17-19 gram and is well made. It has a smooth wall with no retainer indent. The filter holes are clean and uniform. When properly loaded, it makes a good tasting espresso with nice crema. The metal tip at the end is probably a touch too much, but doesn't hurt. It fits my ECP3420 well and stops right at 6 o'clock after tightening. I saw the reviews reporting a cracked wooden handle and I waterproofed mine with several coats of tung oil. This should protect the handle from water damage.

I was looking for a shallow bottomless portafilter so that I could easily see the basket whiole making espresso with my De'longhi Stilosa. The illustrations for this item make it look just right, but, while the given dimensions are accurate, the illustration make the item appear much shallower than it actually is. There is an 11mm gap between the bottom of the 22mm filter basket and the bottom rim of the handle, making it difficult to see with a cup on the drain plate. I have solved this problem by removing the drain box, using a thinner scale, and placing a small mirror where it shows the bottom of the basket. So, I decided to keep this portafilter rather than to search endlessly for a shallower one. Used with a WDT tool, spring loaded tamper, a puck screen, and a bottom paper filter, I am now able to make much more satisfying espresso and watch the shot as it is made. Some other reviewers have mentioned that the handle does not fit well. The ears on this portafilter are not as thick as those on the one that is supplied with the Stilosa, so it has to be turned past center in order to fit tightly, but it does fit and work well when one does so. I hope some readers find this review helpful.

Everything worked well fit-wise. No issues with leaking or griding mating surfaces. It's just a hair looser than the stock portafilter, but still locks in at 6 o'clock. I went back and forth between this and the stock portafilter basket and ended up using this one. Only gripe is that between the retention lip in the basket and the retention spring, it takes quite a bit of force to remove (not so with the Gaggia stock basket). Still have a busted knuckle from my first attempt at removal. The fit/finish of the handle is very reasonable for the price. I liked the handle off my old 3-eared 51mm CAPFEI bottonless portafilter, and sure enough, it uses the same threads to attach to the filter body, so I was able to swap it without a problem. Disregard other peoples' comments about "coffee spraying everywhere." Sorry folks, but that's a skill issue. Watch a few videos on dialing in your grind if you run into that problem. The point of a bottomless portafilter is to see what's going on, and in their case, the goings on are a mess.

Still spraying everywhere, cannot make a shot of espresso with this. I tried this product because it is completely stainless steel and wanted to avoid the plastic in the portafilter that comes with our DeLonghi machine. After several weeks of trouble shooting every possible problem, we've finally given up. This portafilter sprays the espresso everywhere, making it impossible to collect a shot. We tried experimenting with the amount of beans, the type of beans, the grind size, the timing, cleaning the machine, cleaning the portafilter, E V E R Y T H I N G. No luck. We will not waste our time on this anymore.

Works and looks great

Disappointed in the quality control on this product. Ordered this to fit my Delonghi Stilosa, and it fits and performs well. The basket seems pretty nice. The problem is with the quality control on the handle. The branded metal cap does not line up with the seem of the wooden handle, as they didn't drill the hole in the center. The frustrating part about this is it is the main physical point of contact with the whole espresso maker. I ordered another with the hopes that I received a dud, but the second one I got was just as bad, and also had a large blemish in the finish of the handle. Keeping it as I plan to turn my own wooden handle. If functionality is all you care about, this thing works. Otherwise check out one of the other dozen no-brand 51mm portafilters on Amazon.

I’m very happy with this bottomless portafilter. It fits my De’Longhi perfectly and feels solid and well made. The 51mm size and 2-ear design fit securely with no issues. The bottomless design is also a great way to see the extraction and improve my espresso technique. It makes it much easier to identify channeling and adjust the grind and tamping.
