Does this polish chip after a couple of days wear?

I have not used it without a gel topcoat, so I'm not sure about the polish alone. However, with a gel base coat and top coat, it doesn't chip until at least a week and a half of wear. And even then, the nail looks intact - it's just the very top of the free edge of the nail that may peel off a bit (the part of the nail that you "cap" with polish)

Will air dying work as well?

Not with gel it’ll stay tacky and sticky. You need UV light. Most of these kits come with a lamp that works great.
