Mockins 500lb Capacity Trailer Hitch Cargo Carrier with Ramp for Wheelchair

Purchased for a three wheel e-bike from Lectric on the back of a 5th wheel RV. Very easy to assemble and get mounted. Instructions were very good. Few tools are needed but that is standard. Came with multiple cargo straps that are bright orange. Seems very sturdy and should last. Bike rolls up easy enough with one person but you will need to turn the front wheel to the side to get it loaded completely on the carrier. You will also need to pull the pin locks to get it up on the carrier too. I will travel with it in an upcoming trip and will add to this after I get in a trip with the bike on the carrier. The coating is very good and does not appear to be simply painted on but is a durable coating that should last and remain rust free for a while. Bonus is the hitch anti-rattle device and the license plate relocator (holder) in case the load obstructs the license plate which mine does not. So far, recommended.

This thing is rated for 500 pounds and appears sturdy enough to handle that. It works okay, but if you're expecting a perfectly engineered marvel for just over $100 you'll be disappointed. Parts don't fit together perfectly. The hinge is a little wonky. The powder coat finish is truly disappointing -- it flaked off at the hinge before I was even able to put the thing on my SUV. The rack itself came in two pieces and they don't have any type of fitting to cover the area where they come together, so you have open ends of square tubing just exposed. Maybe it's the overprotective parent in me, but I'm just waiting for my kid to get caught on that. Again, as the headline indicates, you get what you pay for. I knew this was a cheap rack and never expected perfection, but I did expect a bit better than this. I gave 3 stars because it does work, but I can't bring myself to give any better review than that. UPDATE #1: after using this for a trip to the coast, I could no longer remove the hinge pin by hand. The cargo rack was stuck in the down position until I used a pry bar to get it loose. There was a little bit of sand on there that was blown in by the wind but that was it. Pretty disappointed in that. UPDATE #2: finally able to get in contact with customer service. They went way above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the experience. Would recommend based solely on that. They also tried to get as much feedback as possible regarding what issues I had and any ways to potentially fix them. Seemed like they take customer feedback very seriously. Bumped the rating up to 4 stars because they went out of their way to make things right.

Great product. Not very light but still easy to assemble and install on vehicle. Good construction and is the perfect odd size I need for my generator for my food trailer.

This cargo carrier is really nice! I like the folding feature. Newest versions are angled slightly up which is nice for backing up, it doesn't get into the ground at all. Cargo net is super nice for getting irregular stuff to stay down. Best thing is the customer service...I ordered one of these and the pin that controls the folding feature was not quite right. It has to be encourage into the hole with a hammer and I could not remove it once in (tolerances were really tight on the manufacturing). I called Mockins and they sent me a new one in the same week and were very kind about it. I was really impressed with how much they cared to get it right. I highly recommend this product. No one who manufactures anything gets it right 100% of the time, how a company handles when they get it wrong says a lot to me. I would highly recommend this. Great value when you include the bag, straps, and cargo net!

This is a replacement for my last cargo carrier which was heavier and rated for half the weight this one is (purchased at Harbor Freight 2 years ago). I put it together alone in about 10 minutes. I was impressed with how sturdy it felt once assembled, and happy with how all the pieces fit perfectly. I loaded it up and went camping. Drive great on the car and was very quiet. I like that the carrier is slightly angled to give more clearance. Once I got to my campsite and set up, I wanted to go off-roading and was intending to lock the carrier in the upright position. Unfortunately, there is no way to get it to lock as the holes are not lined up. It's very, very small, probably less than 1mm, but just enough that I cannot lock it in the upright position. I took it off and left it at camp. If it was able to lock in the upright position, this would definitely be a 5-star carrier for the money and quality. I still like it and will still use it, but I'm disappointed it doesn't function as advertised. UPDATE - I have had this carrier for a few months now and taken it on multiple trips. In addition to the holes not lining up, multiple pieces of hardware backed out and were lost. I fully tightened all hardware when I put it together, but it did not hold up on my long off-roading trips. It's no longer usable without me replacing the hardware. This is my 3rd hitch carrier and I've never had this happen before.

I bought this trailer hitch carrier with the ramp thinking it would make loading easy. Makes you wonder if whoever designed or approved this thing looked at the ramp angle during the prototype stage after an couple of cocktails and said, “Yep, that looks right”… and then just clocked out for the day. The biggest issue: the ramp does NOT reach the ground properly unless you also buy a 6-inch hitch riser/drop or whatever extra adapter you need to make this setup actually usable. That needs to be way more clearly labeled in the product description, because for a lot of SUV owners, this isn’t really plug-and-play — it’s plug-and-pray. Also, the rubber strip on the back is basically a joke. Mine already started failing almost immediately. The end piece came loose, and the center section pinched itself off after rolling wheels over it once, so now it doesn’t even lay flat against the ramp anymore. At this rate, that rubber piece has the life expectancy of a paper straw. Overall, the idea is good, but the execution feels like nobody actually tested it on a real SUV before selling it. If you’re buying this for practical use, be prepared to also buy extra parts and probably replace the rubber sooner rather than later.

My only complaint is the 3 small pieces of reflective tape don’t really make me feel great about night usage. I feel as though they could have indulged a 6’ or so piece of DOT reflective tape so as to allow move coverage for visibility at night. The other thing they could have done to enhance visibility is to include a wiring harness that could operate lights lights installed to include marker, brake, and turn signals as these functioning lights may be obstructed by the item it’s being used to transport. A 1.25 hitch connector version would also be nice as a person with a small socket hitch is most likely going to have more need for extra space to transport additional goods. Other than that solid product in my opinion, Witt improve my out of town shopping trip needs greatly.

The construction of this carrier is solid and more than robust enough to handle 100-lb loads on bush roads. It has handled bouncing children too. I have taken it on two road trips so far, and the rain has not caused any rust.
