I picked up this 12V DC automotive smoke machine mainly to track down a stubborn EVAP leak on my '99 junkyard TJ, and it ended up being one of those tools you wonder how you worked without. Setup was straightforward—hook it to a 12V power source, add the smoke fluid, and you’re ready to go. It produces a steady, visible stream of smoke that makes even tiny leaks easy to spot around hoses, fittings, and gaskets. I’ve used it on EVAP systems, intake lines, and vacuum hoses, and it’s saved a ton of guesswork compared to spraying soapy water or chasing random trouble codes. What I really like is how practical it is for both DIYers and more serious garage work. It heats up quickly, feels solidly built, and doesn’t overcomplicate things with unnecessary features. If you have anything that could leak, this is a must-have tool. It’s very straightforward to use. I just followed the directions for adding baby oil/mineral oil, and it was ready to go. There isn’t any adjustability since it’s just a simple on/off switch, but I actually like that it’s self-contained with its own pump. Since it runs off a car battery, it’s really portable and you can use it just about anywhere. It’s impressively quick, taking less than 30 seconds to start producing smoke. The silicone tubing and attachments that come with it are nice quality and cover most jobs, though I think including one more larger-sized cone would have been a nice touch. It’s not terribly loud while it's running. For a simple, reliable leak detector, this is hard to beat.

This thing works great for detecting evap leaks in older vehicles with failing vacuum hoses. Puts out a lot of thick smoke that makes finding leaking hoses easy. Pinhole leaks are still a little tough to see, but as long as you aren't using this outside where the wind will blow it away you should still be able to find it. The ability to hang it from the hood and clip it directly to the battery is a very nice touch and makes it easy to keep it out of the way during use. The included adapters allowed it to fit everything from my intake pipe out of the air filter box to the hoses going to the evap canister at the rear of the vehicle. Holds a good amount of fluid as well; I was able to go for about an hour of total run time during my 8 hours of finding and fixing leaks on an old turbo car without having to refill. Overall, I believe the unit paid for itself in just that one job over taking it to a shop and having them find all of the leaks and repair them.

Very good for detecting leaks, works quickly and feels like good quality. It’s small, easy to handle, and not too noisy, which is a plus. It comes with clear instructions. The only downside is that it doesn’t include the oil, so you’ll need to buy it separately. Overall, excellent product.

This is not a deal-breaker but it does mean you need to stay attentive while the unit is running and use an inline regulator if your application requires it. Storage is straightforward since the hose and adapters tuck away without any drama. For the price point this machine earns its place in the shop. After twenty-plus uses without a single failure, I am comfortable recommending it to anyone doing regular EVAP or vacuum diagnostics. Just respect the pressure limitation and you will have a capable and dependable tool.

This works great; diagnosed a small leak in my car's EVAP system in 5 minutes. Works exactly as described, would recommend as an inexpensive DIY diagnostic automotive tool that works as advertised.

Très utile et pratique. Fonctionne sur batterie 12V. Elle m'a permis de trouver des fuites a l'admission de mon véhicule et des fuites sur un circuit d'huile. Je recommande sans hésiter. Fonctionne avec de l'huile pour bébé. 👍
