4K ultra HD waterproof sports action camera, underwater camera, 170¡ã wide angle lens, full HD 1080P WiFi HDMI camcorder, free accessories for helmet, diving, cycling and extreme sports

I was looking for a good action camera for use in the water on holiday, and this ticks all the boxes. It's got on-board image stabilisation which very few at this price point have, and the quality at 1080p 60fps is easily good enough for memorable family videos. There's loads of other settings like 120fps slow motion, underwater filter, white balance, iso, exposure and many more - great if you like playing with settings for the perfect shots. I find in bright weather dropping the exposure by one or two points helps get better contrast in the sky and a nicer image generally. Car mode was also a great bonus - I've got it mounted in my car most of the time as a dashcam. All in all a great bargain of a camera, especially as you can easily be paying £100+ for a similar feature set.

Just awful video in anything other than a sunny outside shot - loads of artifact as soon as there is any movement, moiring with light level changes - worked OK with a 32GB class 10 but I guess there is a reason GoPro charge what they do - returned it as it was not likely to produce any usable footage even dropping to 720 30fps

I bought this specially for filming action shots on holidays and to be honest its not bad at all. There re so many different settings you will always find the best quality and frame rate to suit you. The only slight quibble I have is that playback is a bit dark and colours seem very vivid so Im shooting at plus 1 on the exposure which seems better. Overall I am well pleased with my purchase and would recommend this camera.

As I said before in one of my reviews it's very interesting to see the trickle-down effect in technology. What was once several hundred pounds has now come down in cost to around 80. As part of a previous life I used to evaluate action cameras for a major broadcaster, so I'm quite used to testing cameras like this for performance and usability. I am very familiar with the go pro line of cameras and so as this is obviously a clone of those cameras I cannot help compare it with them. Whilst this camera is considerably cheaper, it has pretensions to the sort of market with a go pro would be used, So does it cut the mustard? Before I give you a one word answer I'll go into a few of the features and summarise the performance. This camera has quite a few features that are starting to creep in to this type of budget unit. Of course it has video and up to UHD resolution at 24 frames a second or 24p. It also has time lapse, for which you need to be in video mode to record not Stills mode. It has both gyroscopic stabilisation and anti-shake, Although I'm not too sure what the difference is between them. It also has loop record, a lowlight night mode, although this is not night vision as it has no active infrared LEDs. There is also an app you can download from either the app store or Google play which allows you to control the camera, receive the live view image and alter some but not all of the settings that are in the menu. I should also mention that the battery life really takes a beating if you use the Wi-Fi all the time, you would be hard-pressed to get more than about 40 minutes when recording and using the Wi-Fi. If you've not used a small camera like this before sometimes getting to grips with what the buttons do can be slightly problematic, a bit like patting your tummy and rubbing your head, or is that the other way round? The camera only contains four buttons which control all functions, A power button on the front which doubles up as a mode of selection button allowing you to move between video, Stills, Playback and menu selection. There is a circular okay button on the top which sets the camera into record and stops it and also selects items in the menu. On the left hand side if you're looking from the front of the camera there are two buttons which allow you to navigate through the menu , also the top button is a shortcut to turning on and off the Wi-Fi. You do get quite a lot of attachments in the box, The ubiquitous waterproof case with a second back to allow you to attach a strap to it. A multiple of mounts including one for handlebars. You also get amount for the camera itself with a tripod bush on it which means you do not have to put it inside the waterproof housing all the time, this is a real benefit. You get a couple of straps, a Velcro tie a metal safety bond a lens cloth and some other bits and pieces including charging cable. What you do not get and I have to say you don't get this with the go pro either a standard is a suction mount which would be quite useful. One thing I should add is that these cameras are quite susceptible to having the front element of the lens scratched. I would've liked to have seen a small piece of film over the front element, although it does have one over the LCD back and the front part of the underwater housing. I've includes pictures of all the box contents. One thing that should be mentioned is that the LCD is not touch controllable, although considering that the go pro version of the screen cost nearly as much as the whole of this camera I don't really see that as a huge downside. So I went about testing this camera, Firstly from a video quality point of view. I set it to 1080 60, Which is a full 1080 Quality at 60 frames a second. At this resolution and frame rate the data rate is approximately 20 Mb per second, to give you an idea a go pro's data rate is at least 30 Mb per second, and can be as high as 45 with the pro tune turned on. The actual quality of the image was not bad at all, Something that would only be achievable in a few years ago by cameras costing 5 times what this does. The auto white balance works very well, And the stabilisation when turned on is quite good although it does mean that it crops the image slightly. However the news is not all good, When the light levels dip the camera adjusts the shutter speed to compensate, This is common to all types of camera like this. What this does mean is that your nice buttery smooth 60 frames a second motion drops to something more akin to 30 frames a second because the 30th of the second shutter kicks in. This ruins any movement from dark to light or vice versa. The only way of changing this is to set your frame rate lower than 60, even then if the light gets very low you still might find that's your Motion appears blurry. You see as this camera has no true mechanical iris it can't alter the exposure by moving the iris blades so it has to compensate by changing the ISO, the gain or the shutter speed. I also tested the rolling shutter artefacts on this camera and I'm pleased to report they actually quite subdued, something that really plagued early go pros. Also the audio quality on this camera is quite good, obviously nothing outstanding but if you're within about one meter of the camera you will get acceptable audio as long as you're not moving quickly because then you will get wind noise. You obviously will not get any audio inside the case provided unless you use the one with a vented back but even then the audio will not be very good quality. If that was the only issue it wouldn't be so bad but I've discovered something else which makes it unusable in a lot of situations. The data rate is just not high enough, any fast moving action and the data rate tops out too quickly and and you get dropped frames, really quite poor. I then tested the UHD setting, to add insult to injury the data rate for this is only 25 Mb per second and, Again to give you some comparison the go pro data rate at the comparable resolution and frame rate is 60 Mb per second. Again there was a problem with fast motion, Dropping frames with quick camera movement. Everything else on this camera is quite good for the money but this is the real deal breaker, although if you're using it for non-action stuff, maybe as a dash camera then it's perfectly acceptable. I really call into question its action intentions though. So to summarise Pros Image Quality Stabilisation Auto White Balance Accessories Value for money Cons Low Data rate causes dropped frames Drops into low shutter mode too easily WiFi eats batteries oh and the one world answer…no. The long version, this is where the market leader was about 4 years ago, although that camera cost about 4 x what this one does. If you can live with the dropped frames when the camera moves quickly then this could well be the one for you. This product was sent to me for review purposes. This has no effect on my opinion. Awful camera. Menu doesn't work, English manual makes no sense whatsoever so badly translated. Cheaply built. I returned it.
