I find great value in this tool. With proper care, it should last a lifetime. I do not know why Amazon desires that I mention Battery Life; but I will say this model was specifically selected because it requires no battery, has no electronic display or any digital functionality (to fail or go out of Calibration). Best described as, "Analog baby." Accuracy confirmed against a different, trusted, 0.001 Caliper and this thing is closer than the listed specifications give it credit for. If for some reason you cannot read a labeled slide-rule, this probably won't work for you. For everyone else, this is the simple, accurate, functional Caliper that you are looking for. I will leave it to a hand model to demonstrate that the thumbscrew locking operation is excellent and smooth, it has smooth and stiff slide-action (not sloppy at all), nice probe depth and allows grip and control in use. Case and even a cleaning cloth included.

Most of the other reviewers complains about various issues with this caliper: accuracy, oily, possibility of rust, roughness of edges. All right complains, but they need to be put in perspective. If you are considering the purchase of a vernier caliper you know at least something about mechanics. How many parts made such a device? Building that many, with highest quality material, to the highest possible standard for accuracy (hence sharp) on one side of the part (the "internal") and for user friendly (hence smooth) on the other side (the "external") cannot be made cheap. All manufacturing procedures have tradeoffs. So for the price, this is an excellent product. Is it accurate enough? Yes, mine is accurate to the level of the vernier scale, however a tiny bit wobbly at that level, hence one less star in accuracy. Easier to read. Is it oily? Yes, but for most use that's minor problem. Is it rusty? No, but the manual says that if you clean the oil completely it might become so. Is it smooth? No, it's a bit sharp. If I had time to spare and would use it more often than I do, I'd try to smooth it with a file. But for occasional use it's totally usable. At this price, it totally deserves five stars. Granted, if you compare it with a similar one costing 10x its price, it would barely get two stars, perhaps it'd get even just one. But that would be an unfair comparison, like a race between an accomplished world champion and a random kid in middle school.

A Good Caliper, BUT... The kit includes: a hard case, caliper, double-sided metal ruler (6 inches/15 cm), cleaning cloth and instructions. Pros: The body and mechanism are made of metal, making it reliable in use. It is well-made and easy to operate. Comfortable to hold in hand and easy to adjust. The hard case ensures convenient storage and protection against damage. Cons: Despite having good eyesight, the extremely small size of the numerals and markings makes it difficult to use. The product photo in the listing is enlarged. Therefore, I recommend looking for a caliper from this same brand, but with larger numbers and markings .

I was drawn to this particular caliper because: * it requires no battery * convenient size * all metal construction * budget friendly Fully satisfied with all of the above. As others have noted the finish is not highly refined- but neither is the price point so that’s not a big deal to me. It’s perfect for my needs which are hobby and homemade projects.

Nice tool. Vernier are not exactly in vogue, but this is very handy in most application. It reads well and moves well. Of course it is not a Starrett or Mitutoyo, but it isn't prices as those and other brands. Buy it for what it is and you will probably be happy with it.

I bought these knowing they are cheap low quality, but good enough to teach the basics of reading vernier calipers. I would not recommend for anything where precision really matters. Anything below .01 is really questionable. Parallel check of the outside jaws is off more than .005 due to improper adjustment of the moving jaw and slide. The fit and finish is what you’d expect for any inexpensive precision tool. However for a cheap set to teach basics and not worry about drops or calibration, these will work.

Better than digital, in my opinion. High quality.

Have purchased dual dial calipers that are near impossible to read. This is easy to read, though a magnifier helps my eyes. The markings are printed well. slide works well enough. good purchase for my needs.

Nadat ik mijn twijfels had gekregen over de nauwkeurigheid van de gemiddelde elektronische schuifmaat, weer een ouderwets model aangeschaft. Prima mee te werken, en goed af te lezen. Voelt solide aan, werkt altijd als ik hem nodig heb (geen lege batterij), en afleesbaar tot op 0,02 mm!! Onder de indruk!

In the past, I have spent more on digital callipers which were poorer quality than these. A proper vernier like this one never has flat batteries. There is a pleasing mystique in knowing how to measure accurately to a fraction of a millimetre by reading the vernier scale. These callipers read 0 mm when closed (so they zero correctly) and they move smoothly. They have a reassuring solidity. They come in a reasonably protective plastic case, with a bonus steel rule. Far easier to read than the cheap vernier I've had for many years, and far more reliable than the expensive digital ones I've thrown away. Pleased with my purchase.
