Fun for all
This has been very fun so far! My 10 year old is the main one doing the experiments. This comes with excellent detailed instructions. So far all pieces are great quality. We have opened rose quartz and tigers eye crystals and they are indeed real. (I collect crystals so I can tell the difference.) It is easy to open each daily door. This is a great value for the money! It even comes with a pamphlet with extra experiments you can do.

Advent, but Make It a Full-Time Job
As Thanksgiving approached, I was in the market for an Advent calendar for my boys. We had already exhausted most varieties, so when I spotted the National Geographic Mega Science Advent Calendar, the science educator in me was instantly sold. I imagined calm mornings with a quick, tidy experiment before rushing out to catch the bus. I hesitated only briefly at checkout. Was this too ambitious? I reread the description and reassured myself that some days were simply rocks, gems, or minerals. That seemed reasonable. I clicked purchase and spent the next few weeks eagerly awaiting December. The first few days were genuinely funโnew knowledge, excitement, curiosity. What I didnโt anticipate was a winter illness taking over our house, paired with ten school spirit days requiring coordinated outfits and enthusiasm I did not have. Somewhere along the way, I began actively hoping the next day would be a rock. Ideally several rocks in a row. Instead, National Geographic escalated. Some days now included two or three experiments. We were no longer pacing ourselves; we were rocketing toward the finale like a Fourth of July fireworks show that would not end. The final days before Christmas became a chaotic mix of gift wrapping, baking, shopping, and science experiments, interrupted only by a few merciful rock days. The final experiment, โIs That Gold?โ, promised to โget messyโ and required a frigid excavation outside of a rock I was certain would not be gold. This kit did not disappoint. By this point, the real reward was finally throwing the remains of this Advent calendarโand possibly part of my soulโinto the trash and moving bravely into the new year. 5 stars, highly recommend

Great kit to encourage the kids to get along before Christmas!
This has been a great way to countdown to Christmas and to get my boys interacting and working together daily. Each of my boys (ages 6, 10, and 11) choose an advent calendar each year and this one was selected by my 6 year old. He has been able to do most of the experiments with minimal help from his older brothers. Not every day is an experiment, some days are gems or stones. The included book tells you what each day holds so if you know you are going to have a busy morning you could have your kid go out of order and choose a gem on that day (this is what we do). There is also plenty of material to complete some of the experiments multiple times so the boys have taken the kit over to their grandparents to show them some of the experiments that they have already conducted at home. Overall, I would recommend this kit for any kids into science!

Excellent, hands-on STEM activities
This interactive calendar may be designed for Advent, but it's really great for engaging kids any time of year. My kids (ages 8 and 10) have only opened a handful of days but they've already made fake snow, a glow stick, and learned about acids and bases with hand-on activities. At their age, my kids appreciated our involvement. The box stays really neat and came with clear and simple instructions. For some of the resulting equipment like lab goggles and measuring cups, it's good to have a gallon ziploc bag or small bin to hold onto them for the rest of the days. Out of all our advent calendars over the years which included toy figurines and chocolates, this one has been the most exciting for my kids.

Great for kids of all ages!
My kids 5 and 4 loved this they shared 1 box. Each day they looked forward to science. They learned about experiments and hypothesis and following directions. Most experiments included enough for 2 experiments. We still have some left overs. I marked off 1 star as the pop rocks were hard and all stuck together which did not do anything and a couple days were mixed up. That said I would still buy again when on sale. Great learning for kids. We even enjoyed the rock days as it gave a little break from all the experiments. Also loved that it prioritized learning over more things. Great tradition. We still have some left overs to keep going after Christmas. If there is a new set to try next year we will certainly get again.

Excellent advent calendar
When I originally saw this I was hesitant. I ordered it 12/3 on sale. I could not of even expected the rousing excitement this gift caused. Dad smuggled it away from kids. It was hysterical. My daughter has sent me daily videos of the granddaughters preforming the different daily experiments. Awesome gift. Iโm seriously hoping what I did get them for Christmas holds up to the overwhelming response to this advent calendar.

Science fun!
Iโm a snob when it comes to kidsโ science experiences, but this advent calendar checks a lot of boxes. My seven year old needed assistance with many of the experiments, but it was a fun daily family activity for us. Safe, easy to use materials, little waste (reusable items like spoons, beakers, etc), and a great variety of items.
