Works Great and Priced Right
I've been using this Toshiba countertop microwave for almost three weeks, and so far I have had no issues at all. It works perfectly, heats food evenly, and is very easy to operate. The size is ideal for everyday use, whether reheating leftovers or cooking quick meals. The stainless steel design looks nice in the kitchen, and the overall quality feels solid. Best of all, it comes at a very reasonable price for the features and performance you get. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable microwave without spending a fortune.

I love it. The Toshiba microwave goea prefect with my appliances in my kitchen. It’s a high end microwave with a low cost. The function is set perfectly. My microwave popcorn came out perfect. I got a steal on this microwave and it warms your food up nice & hot.

Very nice product well worth the money!
I am so happy I purchased this Toshiba microwave has a child proof handle. A child cannot open it. You have to lift up a knob behind the handle to open the door, which is simple for an adult. It has the own off quiet switch so you don’t have to hear the noise when you’re pushing the buttons noise gets on my nerves so I especially bought this one for the noise off switch which you disengage by pressing the number eight key for three seconds nice looking and matches all my appliances in my kitchen great product no problems whatsoever love it!!!

Powerful, sleek microwave with MUTE--BUT countdown timer prevents microwave from being used!!
I was replacing a tiny 0.7 cu ft GE microwave and needed something a bit bigger as the interior opening of the GE was chipping off due to 10.5" dinner plates barely being able to fit through the opening. I liked this because it was stainless steel and had a larger turntable (12.4", enough to fit our dinner plates easily), BUT the actual footprint of the microwave is still in the midsize range (20"x17") to fit on our small portable island cart. We are musicians with a home recording studio, so a mute function is essential. We were actually shocked at how few microwave models have a mute function--at least one that is advertised. I saw some videos saying that there are some "secret" codes you can push to force the mute, but I didn't want to take a chance on ordering a $200 microwave only to discover that it can't be muted! Even higher-end models of GE, the same brand as our tiny 0.7 cu ft model, don't come with a mute function (had to comb through tons of Q&A to find out), which is bizarre. So we were looking at other brands and saw this Toshiba on Amazon. I recognize that most microwaves are made by the same parent company now (Midea), but even so, Toshiba seems like a solid name, versus some very low-end brand like Insignia. Even though I prefer the push-button door opening mechanism to a pull handle (so the handle doesn't stick out) like this Toshiba has, if it had a mute, I was ok with it. Plus, we only really use the microwave to reheat foods, so we didn't need fancy cooking functions. The size was perfect, it was sleek and stainless, the price was decent, and it had a mute, so I ordered it. it arrived in pristine condition in just a couple days (Prime), but we quickly discovered the kicker: the kitchen countdown timer CANNOT work with the microwave being on!! At first we thought something was broken or that we had not turned the timer on correctly, as we could not get the microwave to turn on once the timer was engaged, but then I read in the manual that indeed, the microwave MUST BE OFF for the kitchen timer to work. That's ridiculous--surely if the tiny GE microwave is capable of maintaining a separate countdown timer from the microwave timer, that this larger and more expensive Toshiba should be able to do the same? Ah well. As a result, we are now having to buy a separate kitchen timer for cooking on the stove or oven, but it definitely would have been more convenient to have this function integrated into the microwave and still be able to use the microwave to reheat while we are cooking other things in the kitchen! Otherwise, the microwave is great--it has a cool white LED light inside instead of the typical warm yellow, and the internal capacity is definitely spacious enough to fit dinner plates or medium-sized Pyrex dishes, and the advertised 1100 W really does reheat food a lot faster than our old microwave, which I think was only 700 W. The sensor reheat on setting #1 seems to work flawlessly so far--cold food comes out steaming hot, but not overcooked. We haven't tried the defrost yet. The only other thing i miss on the tiny microwave is that it had a dedicated "beverage" reheat button. It's possible that this one has it in the menu somewhere that we haven't found yet, but considering that we reheat beverages all the time and never popcorn or potatoes, I would have greatly preferred a dedicated beverage button on the keypad. So far, we're using the sensor reheat on beverages and it's working fine, so I guess it doesn't really matter. This would definitely have 5 stars from me if it wasn't for the kitchen timer! I wish they had put in the listing that the kitchen timer does not work with the microwave--we most likely would not have purchased it, if so, but we are still going to keep it as it remains the best microwave at our price point (<$200) in the needed size (<20x17) that is stainless with a mute function.

Door cracked in the middle of the night- but Toshiba took care of it!
Original review: While I had it, this was a great little microwave. Compact, cooked rice well and not too loud. But, 3 years in I woke up to a cracked door. No one was using it. Poor quality and should have lasted longer than that. Update: This is a review for additional information on my microwave. I was contacted by Toshiba regarding my previous review, where my door had cracked in less than three years. They were very kind and sent me a new microwave. I had already bought the same exact microwave because, despite the flaw, I do love this model. The door handle is a real handle, and the child lock is easy to press up when you open the door. The rice button makes a perfect pot of rice- no need for a rice cooker. I am noticing that it is not as bright inside as the previous one. It's a great size, not too big. I am really impressed by Toshiba's responsiveness and kindness in their replacement. My close friend, who has two young boys but not much extra money, was thrilled to get a new one. Thank you, Toshiba.

So good, we're buying it again.
After 5 years, 1 month, and 3 weeks of daily use, our favorite kitchen appliance has bit the dust. After we stopped crying and said thank you to our dear friend for its years of service, we searched our Amazon purchase history and were elated to see this microwave is still available for purchase. It will be a long two days without it, but we're excited to welcome Toshi Junior to the family. Why are we repurchasing this Toshiba countertop microwave? Until today, it worked perfectly every time, heating food evenly and maintaining its power over the years. It's a nice size. I would consider this full sized (I've never not been able to fit something in it), but it's compact enough to fit on a shelf in our pantry. It's simple to use, the buttons make sense. The glass turntable is nice and easy to clean. The interior never stained even with a certain family member never covering their dish and splattering sauces everywhere on a regular basis. And it's a great value. Highly recommend. Update: The new microwave arrived. I literally clicked "purchase again" from my order history, so we expected to receive the same product. It's slightly different. A little smaller. The handle operates differently (you can't just pull the door open anymore) and the add 30 seconds button doesn't work the same as on the older model. We find this irritating, but if you're not used to the old function, you might not find the new limitation annoying. We still endorse this microwave. It's a good value and it works well. Hopefully this one lasts at least 5 years like the last one did.

Quiet & powerful
I love this microwave! My old one gave up the ghost and I just don’t have the ability nor resources to replace it at this time. But we have gotten so used to having the convenience of a microwave in our house that to go without one completely just wasn’t possible either. I did some research and decided on this one. It fits on the counter nicely and has plenty of power. One feature I didn’t expect to truly appreciate is the ability to mute the beeping from the touchpad. My daughter works graveyard so she and I have different schedules. Her ability to use the microwave in the middle of the night and not disturb me, and vice versa, has been really nice.

Problems Right Out of the Box :(
Our Sharp microwave we got in 2006 was showing its age, but still is fully functional. We decided an upgrade would be a good idea and something a bit more eye appealing for the countertop. After a couple days reading reviews and watching a few Youtube video reviews, we decided on the TOSHIBA EM131A5C-SS as it seemed to have the features we wanted. The unit arrived quickly and I unboxed it and set it up on the countertop and plugged it in. The clock was easy to set. First test was a cup of water. I tried the ‘One Touch Start’ at 2 minutes, but the unit failed to start. I noticed the light inside the unit was on which I didn’t think was right since it didn’t/wouldn’t start. The door did seem latched, but I opened it and closed it with a bit more force than I thought should be needed. This did extinguish the interior light and I was able to heat the cup of water. I did this test a few more times and it was inconsistent when closing the door whether the light remained on or not and failed to start the unit pressing the ‘One Touch Start’. Simply pushing the door closed and hearing it latch was not adequate to allow the unit to enable a start. The door needed almost a ‘slam’ to enable a cooking start. Another really weird oddity that was randomly occurring was the when the door failed close correctly and the interior light was on, the turntable would begin to turn. I did some Googling on ‘door problems’ for this unit and it appeared there is a door switch that is prone to malfunctioning. There are even Youtube videos how to fix it. Brand new out the box and not working correctly is an omen that perhaps we should look elsewhere and avoid a future bigger problem. I also found a Consumer Reports safety alert that included this model as having some possibly serious safety issues. Our 20 year old white Sharp Carousel microwave still works, it just ain’t pretty like a new microwave.

All the functions work better than I expected
Best microwave I have bought in a decade. All the features work great. Especially the baked potato function and the reheat function. The only thing that took some getting used to was the button on the handle to open the door. It’s the first microwave I have owned like this. The first few times I used it I almost pulled it off the shelf because I forgot you don’t just pull the door open like my other ones.

Great microwave oven
I previously purchased the larger 1.6c Toshiba microwave, but it was HUGE, and very cumbersome to move and fit anywhere, despite taking careful measurements before purchasing, but even worse, you could not see the keypad at all because it was black with gray numbers, needless to say, it was returned and this microwave was purchased to replace it. I can't express how much easier it is to see the keypad for this microwave oven. This oven fits better, it doesnt have that huge "bulge" in the back of it that they never include in the measurement specs, and it us super quiet, you can barely hear it operating. It also has twice the presets that the larger more expensive oven had. It cooks really well, and is noticeably more powerful than our old 1000w microwave. I cant find anything to complain about with this oven, so I will recommend it.

Funcional y elegante
Es un horno muy funcional y además elegante; no tuve la precaución de tomar medidas de la altura del horno, por lo que tuve que colocarlo en otro lugar, así que la recomendación es que no omitan ninguna de las medidas.
