Works great with switch at 180 !
This is a very useful clamping magnet. I have no way to precisely measure the lbs of force, but it is essentially immovable by hand on my table saw or drill press. The switch does feel rough and it isn't instantly obvious that it has to be pushed in AND switched 180 degrees to fully engage. The video in one review showing how easily it can be slid around when clamped, is only at the 90 degree point. If the switch worked smoothly I'd give it 5 stars.

Extremely hard to turn on, felt like I was going to break it
There are no decent instructions included first off. Turn a quarter it starts being magnetic. It became nearly impossible to turn and had very little pull (talking couldn't hold a steel wire up). Tried forcing it and it turned roughly to 180 from start and was significantly more powerful but still couldn't hold anything (barely held itself on a steel door, couldn't even close the door). I contemplated grabbing tools to try and force it further but it felt like the handle was not going to move past the 180 from start position.Suspect there's a possibility it was either broken or jammed but it wasn't working for me. The handle was tilted out at an angle as well which is not how it appears in the product images. There were at least two positions I could get this to - 90 and 180 degrees. Attempting to get to 270 I felt no give and it felt like I would break the handle. As someone noted that you needed to fish around for where it's strongest I attempted 10ish degrees at a time and noted no difference.I wonder if at 270 degrees the thing would actually work as advertised, but as noted I could not get it to turn and the instructions just say to turn it on... not how far of a rotation it can handle, and it seemed to stop hard at 270.

Big/Strong
The media could not be loaded. I wasn't sure what I was going to get with this item, when it arrived It was a bit bigger than I expected. Also stronger then expected. As you can see by the images it is slightly larger than the Magswitch 150.I love these on/off magnets for a myriad of jigs and shop projects. This particular one takes a 60 mm hole to be used in a jig.I tested the magnet and with straight vertical pulling I cannot remove it from my jointer bed when directly in contact with the metal. In fact, I broke my luggage scale in the test. Its max is 80lb.As for shear strength the magnet is quite strong but can be slid on the metal table when just metal to magnet. As shown in the video to increase shear strength I used adhesive backed rubber carpet tape. With this attached adding a friction/drag element I can barely move the magnet from side to side, a feature desired when making certain jigs. It should be noted that although shear strength is increased when the carpet tape is applied, the magnet loses it's very strong verticle power. Since I broke my scale I could not measure the shear strength but it is greater than the Magswitch 150 which is plenty powerful for all applications.I would recommend and purchase this item in fact, I did purchase my own additional magnet needing two for making most jigs.

Handy bench positioning
I put off getting something like this for years. I didn’t think they would be strong enough to be useful. Finally I was deciding whether to drill fixture holes in my welding table and decided to explore magnetic hold downs first. Well, I guess it’s not as convenient as being able to just drop pins in for known angles but I tend to lay out with protractor and angle finder anyway. I put these down with the magnet partially on and do the setup, clamp to them and then turn the magnet fully on. They have machined reference surfaces and tapped holes so maybe I will make some clamping things that bolt on. Not as fast or repeatable as a fixture table but a cheap way to get more out of a regular steel shop or welding table.

Good magnet
It's a good magnet. Strong, the sides are nice and square, but the on off switch is tougher than I would like. It can be done with one hand but it's not smooth and easy like the magswitch ones.

Magnets have a good hold
I ordered both sizes of these magnets. The large magnet has a very strong hold, although it is very difficult to hold in place push down and twist the activation lever. This magnet would be much better if it was easier to activate. The small magnet, although not is powerful works very well for holding metal parts on custom work that I fabricate, The lever is easy to twist and activate the magnet while holding the metal parts in place. I found the larger magnet would twist while trying to turn the handle making This is it difficult to keep everything lined up.I would like to try another one of these large magnets, if they could make the lever easier to operate.~K~ @ KCD fabrication

You must press down to turn on/off
They're so much cheaper than comparable products, and seem pretty strong. There are lots of complaints about 'can't operate them', or 'the handle is too stiff' -- I thought the same thing until I figured out you have to press the entire handle assembly down to turn on or off. It's not intuitive or clearly instructed, and the handle assembly is loose enough that it's hard to figure out at first. If they last, it will be a great purchase.
