Retekess TR635 Portable Digital Radio, AM FM Shortwave Radios | for Elder, Home,Backlight LCD Display, Clock, Battery Operated, AC Power

I've put this radio beside a top tier Sangean with "great reception" and a RCA Superadio III with "best reception." At my house this radio has the cleanest signal on both AM and FM. I haven't even tried shortwave, as no one is currently broadcasting on shortwave. The speaker is big and sounds great, whether listening to news and podcasts or music. I'm getting an FM station from 60 miles away that is perfectly clear. Function is easy and excellent. I can't comment on battery life as I use the AC adapter most of the time.

I was looking for a portable radio to use in the yard and wanted one that used large batteries and not the AAA or AAA batteries that you need to replace all the time. Plus, I wanted one that has a digital display and this one fit the bill. Easy to use and works well!!!

I bought this radio because of the Retekess brand name I have other Retekess equipment and they are top shelf quality. I wish I could say the same for this radio. Advertised as having best reception and excellent sound quality. Neither is true. I live in a metro area with stations ever few Khz on the dial. This radio picks up at best 10 FM stations, and the sound is distorted with constant popping noises. My OEM car radio is better. I tried to return it, but spent the entire day going from one DHL store to another. Each one said that they didn't accept prepaid shipping invoices and sent me to another store. Got the same story at 6 DHL stores. Finally gave up in disgust. JUNK !!!

I listen to the AM band on a regular basis, it works great for my needs. For talk radio it's good because the voices are strong and clear. I can't vouch for how good the FM band is since I don't use it. Also I don't use the shortwave feature either, so I don't know about that.

I have had this radio for about 2 months. It seems to work well and has good sound. Overall I think it's quite good. I do agree with others that the volume control is unnecessarily touchy. When turning on the radio you turn the volume control to the right. There is an annoying delay before any sound is heard which causes you to turn the volume up unnecessarily High initially. Also small changes in the rotation of the volume knob produces large changes in volume. I find this annoying every time I use the radio and I wonder why the volume control is arranged as it is. It is also easy to bump the knob as it is so large and then it takes some time to get to a volume you like again.

RETEKESS TR 635 AM FM SW Radio. This is a great sounding high quality radio. A keeper. I like the way the controls behave. LED Backlight only comes on when changing a station, then goes out a few seconds later, leaving the LCD on to show station frequency. Changing the radio volume does not make backlight come on. When the radio is off it displays the time with your choice of am/pm or 24 hour format. Has hi/low tone control switch. Volume control suits my needs from nightstand radio to room filling sound. ATS automatic presets are a nice feature with quick forward/backward buttons to access station presets. Backlight, which is on for only a few seconds after changing stations, does not seem to affect reception. AM band is in 10 khz step for USA market. I tried AM band scan a couple of times with great results. SW and FM seem fine as well. No keypad here, but buttons and tuning knob work well enough to get the stations I wanted. Can stations be manually added or deleted? SW coverage 2.30 Mhz to 21.19 Mhz The radio came to me in a plastic bag with AC power cord and nothing else. No manual or instructions sheet, but I really didn't need it.

Works great on AM/FM/SW on batteries takes 3 "D" batteries. I had trouble picking up Shortwave channels when plugged into AC It seems like it was interference related. Update 10-19-24 : Still works great daily use home and work. Volume knob still has a quality fill to it while turning it . Now I'm looking at other model radio made by this brand👍

Don't like this radio. Reception is terrible! Previously had a Retekess model # TR618. Was a much better product, unfortunately, the power/volume knob took a crap, after 5 years.
