Excellent Outdoor Security Camera at a Great Price!
I couldn’t be happier with this camera! Shipping was fast, and it was packaged well. Setup was incredibly easy—I had it connected to Wi-Fi and running in just a few minutes. The 1080p video quality is clear during both the day and at night, and the pan/tilt feature gives excellent coverage without needing multiple cameras. One of my favorite features is the motion tracking, which automatically follows movement so you don’t miss anything. The optional affordable Tapo Care plan is well worth considering. It provides convenient cloud-based video storage, making it easy to review and save footage without worrying about managing an SD card. Overall, this camera offers outstanding features for the price. Great video quality, reliable motion tracking, simple setup, and flexible storage options make it an excellent value. I would definitely recommend it!

Wow! Very good quality!
Ok so let me start off by saying that I hardly write reviews… unless I am particularly satisfied or dissatisfied with a product. This product warrants an honest review based on my experience since receiving the product. I was looking for a camera to mount on my back patio so that I could monitor my back door entryway, my backyard items, my backyard access points, and my utility room with all of my high priced lawn equipment, power tools, etc. This camera was extremely easy to mount by creating a small entry point into the corner of my patio ceiling, pushing a fish stick through it, retrieving the fish line from inside my attic, securing the power cord to the fish line, and fishing it back through to the outside of my house on the patio. Inside my attic, the power cord is connected to an extension cord and plugged into an outlet that I have in my attic. Once connected to power, it was very easy to connect to my WiFi network and configure in the Tapo app. Now, what do I like about it besides the super easy setup and mounting? The picture is crystal clear. The camera has the ability to control the direction is it facing via the app and has the ability to view 360 degrees. Also, it has the ability to adjust the settings for monitoring notifications for when it picks up movement. It also has the ability to set it up where it will flash a bright light when it detects movement, which to me, seems beneficial for at night time because it will let anyone it see’s know that they are being monitored. It has the ability to sound a siren alarm for detected movement, or you can manually sound an alarm to the device through the app. It is sound capable so you can hear the sounds in the general vicinity of the camera and it has the ability for you to speak through the camera to whomever is near it. According to the app, it also has a call function, but I have not yet tried that function out yet. Most impressively, you have the ability to pan/tilt the camera using the app from a different location if you want to see a wider view or higher or lower than it is already set, up to a maximum of a full 360 degree turn. Through the app, it has the capability of automatically recording any movement and saving those recordings to your device “cloud” and it does not appear to re-write over its recorded videos as long as you have enough storage on your “cloud” for the data required depending on how much footage you have recorded. For the price, this camera is hands down an excellent value for a purchase, especially for those of us who do not want to pay an outside company for camera security services. This is an excellent alternative. I will be purchasing several more of these cameras to mount around the entirety of my house. For the price, quality, functionality, and ease of installation, I highly recommend this product to anyone who is currently in the market for outdoor cameras on their home.

Says outdoor camera yet has an adapter plug in ??
Update 9 mths later this camera has worked great I wish it could be wired in, but it requires an outlet to plug it in, I still have 2 of these at the back of my home and it catches most everything outside and the address card works great as well, you can takes pictures and video of the video itself and it has a faster speed to review all the action quicker, it works well remotely when I am away to see what's going on at home, this has provided me peace of mind while I have been away a lot this year. Highly recommended, I wish it had a light that would stay on like my other camera I ordered from another company but overall it's really great! These have been great cameras they do lose connection freq but usually will connect back on there own sometimes, I like the functional saved position options also the talk back features capture features like most cameras now but these are good with clarity at nite I can't get the flood lights to work. Overall happy with them the sd card captures footage and loops Recommended I'm confused, I thought I was buying a hard wired camera that I could hard wire into my porch light for now to use as security camera, and it came with a plug ?? How is this an outdoor camera as instructions say to not get plug wet etc and should be plugged in indoors, Disappointed that there are no bright flood lights like my other cameras from other brands less expensive, and it does not seem to have a color option and seems to be only black and white, the nite vision was ok and has a good distance however the alarm strobe light is useless imo as it is a tiny light that blinks, the alarm on high volume is too low, the adapter plug has a 10ft thin cord it has sd option like all the other cameras do and 2 way talk, it says, have not tested that yet, but cannot find a color option all cameras have this now so I do not see why this one doesn't, I am going to test it for the next 25 days and if it doesn't function well will return it I guess, but I wish they would be more clear about how it is called an outdoor camera yet instructions says not to get adapter wet, set up was not difficult, they all work the same, the Alexa app has it listed as Alexa compatible and I linked it to the app, but overall compared to one I bought that has dual cameras on one for only 16.00 I do t think it is better or worth the extra $ It doesn't detect things as I think it should we tested it multiple times, I put sensitivity up high . Either way it's a disappointment when I thought I could wire it into my porch light wiring. So far it is working well has good night vision and even tho black and white and has no flood lights etc it serves it's purpose and tracks motion very well .

Great Cameras - Awesome App
I have been in the market for a decent camera for quite some time. Years even. Finally, it appears I found one that delivers I tried many many brands of cameras. The vast majority of them being other cheaper off- brand cameras. Most of them didn’t work right out of the box to failing just under a year of use. Most apps were clunky at best. Enter Tapo cameras. Easy to set up. Great app features. The Tapo app is extremely easy to understand and is thoughtfully designed. Tp-link actually manufactures the Tapo products. And TP-Link has been a very reputable brand over the years. The cameras themselves are good. Good clarity and great night time vision. I appreciate the ability to insert a physical micro sd card for video storage. You aren’t forced into some cloud service for that ability (although it is available if you want it). And yes, you can access all of the sd card footage from the app. There are only a couple of quibbles I have with these. If power goes out, the cameras do need to be manually adjusted back to their “home” position once power is restored. It would be infinitely helpful if there was an actual “home position” setting to commit the cameras to. So they will go back to this position in the event of a power outage. It’s annoying because all of your settings pretty much rely on this home position to function as desired The other quibble is if the WiFi ever changes the cameras have to be removed from your app and re-added to change what WiFi they are connected to. There really should be a WiFi change option in the app to handle this easily. Other than those two things I really appreciate how well these work. The motion tracking option isn’t bad (it’s not great though often moving too slow to keep up with the target). But it does move fast enough to keep the target within the field of view longer than a stationary camera would. The alarm function is nifty too. Set on a schedule (I have mine set at night) it will produce any number of variables like flashing lights and alert sirens if it detects people in the area. Good little feature to have to scare away someone if they think they just set off an alarm. Alternatively you can upload your own sound clip if you want verbal feedback towards your intended target. All in all these are great cameras. Now to see how they function in the long term. EDIT: After writing this review, I found in the app that you can set up to 3 different views for each camera as sort of a "pre-set". So, this makes it slightly less combersome to move the cameras back to the home position should they need to be manually moved back after a power outage. Also it's noteworthy to mention that shadows will set these cameras off no matter what the sensitivity settings are set to. So, on windy days the cameras are all over the place trying to chase the shadows. Also, this prevents them from returning back to the "home" position. Speaking of how they move, they are super clunky in their movements. Making motion tracking difficult for them to keep up with anything moving slower than a slow walk. I think the tracking should be sped up for this. Also, motion tracking does not work if motion is turned off. So if you just want it to track "people" it can't. Seems like an easy thing to implement if you want to void shadow tracking and only want people to be tracked. EDIT2: Just thought I would update my review to include more information after having the cameras for a bit now. I have now turned motion tracking off. The reason being is that, as time goes on they get worse at moving to track anything. They also randomly get stuck in the field of view when tracking something and then start erroneously tracking everything all over the place after that. Never returning to the home position. So, what you get is eventually the camera will drift so far away from home position you will often get the camera just looking at the ground or up in the air somewhere until you manually re-adjust them back yourself. I knocked off a star for this as it's a feature that seems to be more of a gimmick than a real useful function. I really do home they can update the firmware and app to make this feature more useful in the future.

Perfect for high performance/low effort installation
I've had this camera for about a week now, and so far it has been great. After opening the package and setting it all up went relatively smooth. There was a small problem with having the device connect to my phone but when I just reset the pairing process it eventually worked itself out. I bought a 512 gig sd card that is installed in the back of the camera. Getting to that area was a little dumb because I had to turn a certain way to get to it, and I had to install it while the device was on so the card could be formatted. It says you cannot pre-format or use sd cards that have been formatted from another device so you have to get one new. That's not the biggest problem because a 512 gb sd card is recording about a months worth of video on 24/7 record mode and it's supposed to just reuse that data after it runs out so I'll be curious to see how it runs when I'm out of space and it has to record over previously recorded video. Some of the zones you make for detecting things gets warped after the camera has moved around a lot. I don't know why, but it always seems to fix itself after a while. This camera has a lot of features I didn't even know of when I got it that I think makes this a no brainer for first time camera owners likeyself. It moves and tracks things when it's detected. So you can set it up to see a wide range of things and it will follow them up to your doorway so you always see that object it detected which I think is incredible for a device like this, and the price. It works great with my phone and my phone is nearly 4 years old. Installation was as easy as can be. Not a problem there Lastly, I did get the Alexa box that it's compatible with and it was super easy getting that to work together. Only problem with that is after about 5 minutes or so of having the camera being shown on the screen of my Alexa, the camera latency seems to tank and it will need a refresh. But otherwise is extremely great. This product is great. I stand by all five stars I give it, even with it's very very tiny flaws.

Impressed with the image quality. Better than the ring system garbage.
Simple to use very impressed with the image quality. Better than the ring system in my opinion going to purchase a second one.

It’s always panning and getting stuck in the weeds.
After less than 24 hours it started whining loudly when it pans. Really loud. The pan feature is useless if you want to be able to detect. There is only 1 layer for detection zones and it is the same in all the “viewpoints” you set up. If you defined the sidewalk when it is facing forward, and the camera pans to the left, that same detection area is now in the middle of a tree. The camera ends up just staying pointed at the leaves blowing. The only one that really works is the default total area detection zone. This picks up a lot of leaves blowing in the wind but there’s a better chance you might see the car drive in your driveway too. But it defeats the purpose of having zones. Also I have to reboot this 2 or 3 times a day because it gets stuck recording the movements in one small area. Even if a car goes by the detection zone (which is the full viewing area) the camera never notices and records it. The camera won’t pan to catch the car. When I try to pan thru the app I get a message saying it can’t be panned anymore in that direction even though it should be able to, since it started out at the higher view. Only way to fix it is to reboot. There is no reason it should error out like this. Not worth the trouble of always rebooting because you miss events in between if you haven’t rebooted. They must know about the issue since there is a place in the setting to have a scheduled reboot occur. In the online help it says… “ Q7: What should I do if I receive the message "Camera Pan-Tilt has reached the maximum extent in this direction. Please drag to another direction" when panning or tilting the camera in the Tapo app, even though the camera lens is not at the limit? A7: You can try the following steps to resolve this issue: Step 1: Ensure the screws are tight in the camera card slot and the rubber seal is seated. Step 2: Navigate to the camera's Device Settings > Pan & Tilt page and click on “Pan & Tilt Correction”. This will help recalibrate the camera's position. Step 3: A simple reboot can often resolve calibration issues. After restarting, test whether the camera can pan and tilt correctly to its limits. Step 4: If this phenomenon occurs infrequently (e.g., once every few days), consider enabling the “Auto Reboot” feature in the camera's Device Settings > Reboot Camera page. This can help ensure that the camera operates smoothly over time.” It doesn’t state what to do if this “phenomenon” happens frequently, like several times a day. Tp-link makes crappy products. Only good thing is you don’t have to send to cloud and its the only reason I picked this brand but what use is it if all you get is an image of moving leaves while listening to the audio of a car driving up or on a bad day the sounds of your car window getting smashed in. Would not recommend

Great camera
This is my fifth Tapo camera and they all perform very well. I combine them with Kingston branded micro usb cards for storage and have not had any problems with initializing the cards as I have read in some other reviews. I find the 1080p provides a clear picture during the day and adequate night time depending on the distance. If I was using this for a business to protect against vandalism I would probably go with the 2 or 4 k versions. The software that they provide is versatile as well. One feature I like is the ability to save views so a single click pans to a preset rather than having to move the camera manually. Tracking feature is also nice.

Garbage
Resets itself at least 3 or 4 times a day. Pretty useless.
