Read my review before you buy. No sour grapes here. The machine totally missed my expectations!
Like many, I obsess over researching products I am interested in, especially big-ticket items. Most of the reviews and recommendations on numerous sites gave the Ecovac DEEBOT x2 glowing recommendations. I was looking for a dependable, easy-maintenance cleaning machine that had the intelligence to know the difference between tile floors and carpet. I wanted a machine that would clean and dry its mopping heads to prevent odors and bacteria growth between uses. Voice control would be nice but not essential. I saw rave reviews about how well this machine worked for them. I am happy to see that it works for them, but my review will be flowing upstream against the many glowing reviews. Regrettably, nearly everything I wanted, what I demanded, was missing from this product. For the price that was paid for the DEEBOT x2, this was unacceptable! Your mileage my very. First of all, I read the instructions. I like instructions. I want to know how to best use my equipment. The instructions that come with the cleaner are horrible! Practically non-existent. There are quick start instructions but any other information requires internet research. It is more like discover a problem, go get information on the web. Discover another problem, go back, and try to find a solution. It would be much better if there was a comprehensive set of instructions in hand to show you how to set up the machine, use the App, and then troubleshoot common problems. The internet and Customer service would then fill in the blanks in knowledge. The App is archaic, one of the worst I have tried to learn and use. Truly disliked the APP, a key part of the whole system control. Speaking of Customer service, it was painful trying to get a resolution to any problem. For example, the machine frequently and repeatedly would go offline. I have pretty good wifi coverage in my house. No problems running all of my internet-connected things. I did not have any problem resetting the connection to the wifi when it went offline. The problem would be that the machine would, at some time after being reset, go offline in its station and fail to run any program to clean. We would notice that we had not seen the machine in some time only to discover that it was offline. I called Customer Service and they tried to tell me it was my mesh internet's fault. I needed to change my wifi. Ridiculous! My wifi had no problems identifying the machine and linking on the 2.4 GHz frequency. I could see this on my router info page. With so many homes using mesh network routers, if this is a real cause of failure, then this product is not ready for market. It should not be working in a huge number of homes. Initially, the machine log shows that it was running 150-190 minutes to clean the house. By the end of my frustration period, the log showed it running 15-20 minutes and cleaning only 225 sq ft per run. It would then announce it was returning to the station to clean the mops or recharge. Once it entered the station, it failed to come out and finish the clean as it should have done. Often, a check of the machine would show that it went offline again. On the subject of self-cleaning and drying mops, repeatedly, I found that the mops were soaking wet in the station. I mentioned this to Customer Service I was told that I should go into the App and tell the machine to initiate the cleaning and dry cycle manually. I thought the purpose of having an automated machine was that it would do what it was supposed to do, automatically! Cleaning and drying the mops was one of my requirements for the machine choice. I lost faith that it would be doing the cleaning and drying function as I expected. When I retrieved the machine from the Station to return it, the mops were dripping with water. The machine had been in the Station for two days, it should have been already cleaned and dry. The next glaring problem is battery life and charging. I can't tell you the number of times the cleaner would return to the station after 15-20 minutes of operation, announcing it had to recharge. Or the machine was in the Station, sitting there doing nothing, it would announce that it was shutting down due to low battery. I was checking the App and could see the battery was depleted. Often, when the machine had not automatically run its scheduled cleaning program, I would manually tell it to run the cleaning. The machine, most of the time would come out of the Station with 84% or less battery charge. This was after being in the Station for a long time. I wanted to like this machine. I tried using the internet to find solutions to my problems. I called Customer Service twice. The first time it was the wifi's fault, not the machine's. The second time, I called them to try to anything that would help to prevent me from sending the machine back for a refund. They were going to send me an email containing information on possible solutions I was willing to try. We verified my email address a couple of times, but, I did not receive this email. That was the final straw. The machine was going back for a refund.

Great for maintaining with vacuum AND mopping features
Over the years I have wanted a robot vacuum, but waited until my research findings allowed me to decide on a unit that was worth the money. I finally chose this unit because it vacuums, mops, self cleans (and uses hot water to self clean), air dries it’s mops after the self clean, empties out its dust bin into the base station and holds enough water to clean my entire house (1800 sq ft). This unit did not disappoint. Another thing to mention is my husband cannot take the noise of a loud noisy vacuum as he has severe tinnitus and that noise will cause it to get extreme. I was worried about just how noisy this unit would be - couldn’t find much in the reviews about noise level. Well, I am happy to report that as the vacuum is going, it is very tolerable. It is a low hum that you barely hear in the next room. The unit arrived in a rather large box, was packed well inside the box, and was easy to take out and set up. One thing to mention is you will need to download the app on your phone and connect it to your network that your phone is connected to. (I made the mistake of downloading an app that asked for a lifetime one time fee of $24.95). Turns out you don’t need that app- make sure to scan the machine’s QR code to get the free app that comes with the machine. This QR code is on the inside of the base station lid. Once I set up the machine, (note I filled the tank with plain water), I set it off to go explore the house. It mapped out my house and returned to its base. I then went on the app and labeled the rooms it mapped out and then set it off to clean the living room floor. The machine at first appeared to wander around the perimeter, but then started a methodical cleaning once it completed a perimeter run. When it found rugs or carpet, it turned off its mop feature, raised the mops and increased the suction of the vacuum. When it rolled off of the carpet it lowered the suction, lowered the mops and started the vacuum/mop feature. When it reached the end of the cleaning, it announced it was complete in its cleaning and that it would return to home. I have real wood floors, linoleum, rugs, and carpet throughout my home. The machine adapted to every surface. Only once did it get stuck under a dining room chair where it could not get out of the position. It turned itself off and announced that it was stuck and to please remove it from the jammed area. I would like to see some improvement on the app, (it would not allow me to divide a large room (that is really 2 rooms) as it says “error” tap to divide room again. The machine also has a camera, so you can record or watch what it cleans. Pretty fancy for a robot vacuum. I give this unit 5 stars as it has done everything to my expectations and I have floors that are gleaming clean. Now, if they could design one that dusts furniture (hover to tabletops lol), my cleaning experience would be perfect. I did not use any tech support so I am not rating that. One last thing to add, I bought the unit on good Friday at a great deal of 30% off. So instead of $1,500.00 I paid $1,000.00. Update: It has been a few months. I named my robot Rosie- Rosie does a great job of maintaining my floors. I start her once a week and she keeps everything gleaming. One time I accidentally left my phone charger cord hanging on the floor. I was not home while Rosie was cleaning and she sucked up the cord. She stopped and sent me a message to clear her rollers. When I got home, I found her sitting where she stopped and opened her up, pulled out my cord and cleaned some wrapped hair that was wrapped as well. I am amazed she still worked great with the end of the roller wrapped with hair. Once clean, I sent her home and restarted her. She started right up and worked perfectly. I am still thrilled with my machine.

Poor long term value - software design sucks
The robot mapped my kitchen and dining room as one and won’t let me divide them. The software error is “can’t divide a room at the doorway”. Where else does a room get divided?????!!!!! So mopping the kitchen takes twice as long because the dining room is cleaned as well. 10/8/24 Changed the rating form 2 to 4. Once you learn how to deal with the mapping bugs the unit is useful. Used the virtual boundary feature block out the dining area and only clean the kitchen. Adding a second virtual boundary to the kitchen causes the robot to loose its mind. Picking up the robot if it gets tangled in something and restarting it doesn't work. Have to reboot the robot and put it back at base and restart the whole job. I am using this robot on 1500 sq. ft of hard wood with a couple of rugs. This robot emphasizes speed over floor coverage which is typically 90%. I have to go around with a hand vac to complete the job, especially in the kitchen. Emptying out the dirty water from the base and filling clean water is satisfying...gives me some assurance that the floors is cleaner. We have been using this model for 8 weeks now. 11/16/24 - every once in a while the robot will lose its marbles while doing a job and just start wandering around without vacuuming or mopping. Have to turns its power off and on to fix. Still not good and vacuuming or mopping areas just around a corner. The algorithm takes it wide and it never cleans the corner. 11/17/24 The robot is not able find the living room anymore. Starts from the base in the family, goes into the kitchen correctly but never gets out of the kitchen into the living room. I have pushed it a few times into the living room and it recognizes where it is and starts the job. But it’s not able to find the room on its own and returns to station after announcing that the cleaning has been completed. Really annoying now. If I call support they will tell me to remap which will takes days and won’t be stable for weeks. June 7th, 2025 … now the battery depletes after cleaning just one medium size room and recharging is not quick

Wanted to love this the ecovac deebot x2 omni
Hope this review helps. First setup was easy. Mapping not so much. Make sure on the initial mapping you block any trouble areas and make sure no pets or people are in the areas to be mapped. Otherwise the mapping will not work. That being said, the mapping is highly inaccurate. I tried several times without luck. Walls and furniture were not in the right places. This causes restrictive areas to be difficult to place. The vacuum continually got lost and the map needed to be regenerated. The edge cleaning was inconsistent. Because of the design, it continually got stuck under chairs and in tight areas. Another major design flaw is that area rugs get picked and stuck in the vacuum. After multiple tech calls, I spoke to an engineer who confirmed the area rug issue is a problem with the model. He said the robot getting lost and maps getting altered was a defect with my unit. After reading multiple reviews concerning this same problem, I decided to return the unit. I was never able to complete a scheduled room cleaning. The vacuum either got stuck or returned to the base saying cleaning completed. This occurred at times after only a complete minutes into a cleaning. On the positive side. Where it did vacuum, all my pet was was gone. The mopping was fantastic. I was surprised that the robot would automatically return to the base (assuming it could find it that was 50/50) and empty the vacuum and clean the mopping pads and then continue to clean. As I said, mopping was fantastic. What a shame this robot could not die the basic functions. Create an accurate map, retain a map, clean an entire area, edge clean and not pickup area rugs. Ps. I have had several robotic vacuums. My current proscenic m7 pro does way better at vacuuming for a third of the price.

Read the negative reviews & heed their warnings!
I've owned several Deebots over the last several years, none were perfect by any means but the software they have keeps drawing me back plus their features combined with price are always are better buy than the competition. I felt the X2 would be similar & for some reason, silly me thought Ecovacs would have actually improved by now after learning about customer experiences. After owning the X2 for 45 days I'd have to say not much of the above is true. Yeah, they still make excellent software but what good is it if the software itself has several bugs and the robot just fails to live up to expectations. The biggest 'fail' just started happening days after the extended Amazon holiday return period had come & gone--pet & people hair that get scooped up by the roller that don't get sucked up instantly are quickly pushed off to the sides of the roller where they jam it tight & cause an error. Took me a while to figure out how best to attack this problem as trying to squeeze my large fingers in there to pull it out little by little is not only exasperating but time consuming. I may as well just vacuum & mop myself for the 30-45 minutes it takes to get it unstuck. The problem is that the hair not only gets wound around the side roller but also underneath & in between the main roller & the sides, forcing those 2 little side rollers against the body of their frame. The easiest way to fix this is with a thin screwdriver to wedge in between the roller & frame so you can gently pull it up. The first 30 days this didn't happen once, had it done so I would have sent it back immediately. Now it happens twice each time the robot is tasked for cleaning. There have been a couple of software glitches the worst of which is the robot thinking my throw rugs & runners are extreme dirt h trying to 'erase' the pattern! The X2 will spend a good half hour or more on a 3' x 5' kitchen rug, on super high speed, twitching away. As if this isn't bad enough it first tries to do the perimeter of each rug & it's movements twist the rug up into a small pyramid. It's ruined 2 beautiful design throw rugs that we can't find anymore. If I pick the rugs up then it happily goes about vacuuming & or mopping all the tile but it has this quirk of going along the edge of a carpet at super high suction, then back over the tile at low suction, then back on the carpet, repeating this the entire length of whatever carpet it's working on. The constant ramping up to super high suction & back down again is not only ridiculous but pretty annoying to anyone who's around while this is going on. There is a setting to prevent it from increasing suction on carpet but with my golden retriever I really need that feature. The amount of time the X2 wastes trying to erase my throw rugs & then going back & forth across the width of a hallway instead of making just 3 passes down the length of the hall causes it to need to recharge much too soon. Then there's the AI setting, don't know where to begin with that. Let's just say when I first got the X2 I figured I'd use all the features but they obviously didn't program their AI good enough as it IS pretty artificial but not very intelligent. It would meander all over the place, missing large areas of the house while taking forever to do so. Took me a couple of days to figure out how to turn it off but it hasn't been on since. All this isn't to say it might not be a bad robot for some, namely those without pets or people with long hair. It does a pretty good job mopping especially considering I do have a large, hairy dog. He's well trained & doesn't go out in the mud or for walks in the rain so it's not like my floors get real dirty & if you look at them you'd say they were pretty clean but the dirty water tank still has some sediment in the bottom along with the water being cloudy. It also does a pretty good job vacuuming. I have a large macaw who makes a mess shredding newspapers h dropping nuts out of the cage & the X2 not only picks it all up but has never once had a problem emptying, unlike previous Deebots we've owned. All this being said, I would NOT recommend this to anyone with a pet based solely on the problems I mentioned at the beginning.

Amazing Mopping; Mediocre Vacuum
Short review now; Perhaps longer update later. This replaced a Roomba i7+ in our home with 6 dogs on a horse farm. The roomba did fine, except for it's aging parts, weakness to its own dust, and iRobot's app updates becoming a headache. It handled dog hair just fine too. What it couldn't do was clean up the paw or boot prints on our vinyl plank flooring during the winter or wet weather. Enter the X2; Having a self-filling and cleaning mopping robot has changed our lives for the better, and I can walk barefoot in the house again. That alone is almost worth the price alone, and does outweigh some of the criticisms I have. It's not all sunshine and roses. The app is clunky, needs to be refreshed often, and mapping the house took 4 tries. It will occasionally make up a new room in between two existing rooms, and the app will then not let you merge them back or edit them. You can subdivide floor areas, but not edit the walls that the LiDAR maps. It will not allow you to name rooms, you pick from a list that is missing many standard American room names. There is "Study" but not "Office", "Cloakroom" but not "Closet". "Sunroom" but not "Foyer", and I guess I need to renovate so I can make use of "Tatami"; It isn't unusable by any means but it shows that the app has not been fully localized to a western market. Yiko, the voice assistant, is a nice addition with caveats; It does not always recognize room names and I don't have a good sense of where my data is, especially when the voice data can be interlaced with LiDAR, camera, and usage data. I would consider disabling the voice assistant. Previously I isolated the Roomba on my network and tried to control and curtail it's network activity, I have not tried that yet with the X2. There is some documentation suggesting it can work with Home Assistant, and it looks to be usable with the big market assistants (though I do not use them) but not IFTTT. The most frustrating thing about the robot, that almost got me to return it was that it absolutely cannot handle dog hair. Multiple times a day, once in the few minutes while I was writing this review, it throws an error for "Main Brush Tangled". This could mean it ingested something it shouldn't have, like a piece of paper, but mostly it means the bearings which the main brush turns in has become packed with dog hair. Those bearings also get very hot as they're simple plastic parts rubbing against a metal rod and not a true roller bearing. It looks like the side brush is directing all of the debris is gets directly into that bearing and not the brush itself, but I'm not an engineer. I do think the main brush/side brush could use a redesign on that account. Turning up vacuum suction power hasn't had an appreciable effect, and makes it louder and reduces runtime. The solution for the owner, I guess, is to have it run more regularly so it interacts with less hair each run, vacuum manually more often, or accept it and clean it's brush twice a day. Or get rid of the dogs or the robot or both. I'm waiting on aftermarket support for the consumables (Bags, Brushes, Filters) and to learn what off-brand cleaning solutions could be used in the mop water. The manual drive mode on the vacuum is more fun than I thought it would be, and when traveling we have used to to check up on the dogs. It's a shame we cannot use that to help map the house and define rooms. Overall the upgrade from the i7+ is worth it on the basis of mopping. Vacuum performance is fine, not accounting for the issues with hair. Everything else is a bit of a gimmick

Up date 25 DEC 2023// 12 JUL 2023 To many problems
25 DEC 2023 I got to return my old one in for a new one and after that exchanged this robot has been doing what I expected it to and the app editing finally is easy to navigate through!!! I was experiencing a lot of problems and if you are too read the section below to see if yours was doing anything like this because they said that there was an ISSUE WITH SOME OF THEM LIKE MY FIRST ONE 12 JUL 2023 My robot does more just driving around back and forth instead of actually cleaning. What is going on with this thing ? We had it for a week did the mapping right away but it drives around for several minutes going back and forth in the same area like it’s lost while it’s not cleaning. Then cleans a different area comes back to Same area and does it again. Also it was in the same spot not moving at all but still cleaning. The brushes were rolling, it was still sucking, and the mop pads was turning to with water still coming out. It did this for 5 min I also had some problems on the app timing out on loading a screen, time out saving an editing, and robot keeps going off line. Everything is always picked up with all doors open. We never had a problem with the shark robot 2 in 1. And that was with the quick cleaning and AIVI off. I’m sending it to each individual room and its seems to be doing its job. But I shouldn’t have to do that every time I want the house clean, when we leave. Been dealing with tech support but only 1 thing got somewhat resolved and that was app timing out every time. Now it’s just sometimes.

It doesn't work, really! Twice.
Well, I had high hopes from my x2 omni. It looked so great on paper. I bought it from Amazon and couldn't have been more excited about it. The setup was straightforward. The app is intuitive. When I started my first cleaning, the vacuum went back to clean its mop pads. That was the first time I received the cleaning sink malfunction error. I tried to resolve it per the app instructions, it didn't work. I called customer support which asked me to keep the dirty water sink pressed while resolving the problem. It worked. He told me the valves could be the issue and issued new replacement valves, which would take up to 2 weeks. Seriously?! You just got a new vacuum and wait for 2 weeks to make it to work. I knew the hack - manually press the dirty water sink while mop washing - to make it work while waiting for the valves replacement so I decided to use it. The very next day I received a 'a dirty drop sensor error '. I cleaned the sensors per the app, which didn't work. So I called the customer service, which after analysis with me announced it would require sensor replacement. Given it was a brand new unit, he suggested me to return it, which I did. I was so much bought into the idea and brand that I got a new replacement of x2 omni. It works fine for the first 2-3 runs of the same cleaning cycle. I was ecstatic about it because it worked. But my excitement didn't last long. I got the 'cleaning sink malfunction' error again. I washer the valves put them back, it didn't work. The only thing that worked was the manual pressure. Fortunately, my replacement valves had arrived from the 1st vacuum and I thought of trying them out on the 2nd one. Guess what, I got the same error again, it didn't fix the issue. At this point, I'm extremely frustrated and returning the 2nd vacuum too. To have the same problem in two new models demonstrate the lack of quality control or a major design flaw.a Google search revealed other customers with the same issue. There is a lot of potential with x2 omni if Ecovacs can fix these petty issues. I hope they read this review and do something with the design. Not gonna try the 3rd time. Most likely, I am buying roborock x8 maxV ultra - pricier but hoping it would work! Wait for my review on their page.
