The fossil-bearing rocks of the British Isles represent life from the last 2,900 million years and the UK is seen by many as the cradle of modern geology. Using the geological map of Britain, expert palaeontologist Peter Doyle offers a comprehensive guide to fossils in the UK, plotting the main fossil groups around the country, and relating them to the different ages of the rock in which they are found. With photographs of the fossils that can be discovered, and tips on how to find them yourself, "British Fossils" is the perfect companion for the novice fossil hunter or enthusiast. Review: GOOD VALUE - Good read very informative Review: My Dad loved reading it - I purchased it for my Dad as a Christmas present as he loves reading about fossils and used to be a big fossil collector. Concise and informative
I'm new to collecting fossils so didn't want to get bogged down with too much information at this stage. This book suited my purpose and actually makes fossil hunting seem interesting. I've learned quite a lot too.

Operative Word Is "Introduction"
This book is described as an "introduction" to British fossils and, for better or worse, that's what it is, just a very quick skim over the surface of its subject. It's an interesting read in parts but its brief treatment of specific British fossils is too little to be at all useful. If you have fossils you want to identify, this is not the book for you.
