a kind of excellent
Fareed Haque , who the following year would release the much loved and critically appreciated Deja Vu (a jazz instrumental treatment of Crosby , Stills , Nash and Young's second record) sent out this lovely and muscular jewel . Haque , Of Pakistani and Chilean heritage , had a fully developed and unique sound by this (essentially) trio session .Imagine that heritage filtered through someone who loves classical guitar and can play that instrument similarly to John McLaughlin . That's only a fair reckoning of what you'll find here as Fareed likes all manner of axes and sounds otherwise dissimilar to about anyone else your apt to encounter in the jazz world .Mark Walker (drums , percussion) provides very forward skins with both hyper creative and often hyper executed playing throughout . He's fantastic and is the fast company and of the fleet mind Mr. Haque clearly needed and wanted for this date .Just as brilliantly , Jonathan Paul provides wonderful bass that gets 1 (track 3) and 1/2 (track 8) solo features .Fareed employs electric guitar (scant) , sitar guitar (scant) and guitar synthesizer (a drawback on a couple of places it's not needed and adds nil) . Fortunately , the bulk of the program features various classical guitars and great clutch of fine songs .The second song , Opaque (following a blink-and-you'll-miss-it acoustic intro) sets a dreamlike and gorgeous mood . You'll instantly know you're in for something both different and high functioning . Because you are .
