High(-ish) concentrate oil of undisclosed source in blister packs
-SOURCE. This is a fish oil [FO] processed from anchovies by an undisclosed producer. (Two sentences in the Product Description section of this webpage --namely, "every batch of Just Natural fish oil is crafted from deep-sea fish oil" and "Just Natural is committed to using only non-GMO"-- indicate Just Natural may be the producer's brand name.) The oil is sourced by the start-up Naturion Pharma Inc. (CA), which likely encapsulates and packages it, and sold by the marketing sister company True Nutrition Co. (with the same CA address) through its Nanowell storefront. At the time of writing, it is claimed to be Made in USA on an icon of its label (but not in the webpage). In the supplements industry, however, such a claim does not necessarily mean the active ingredients are indeed a US made product; encapsulating a foreign product in the US, for example, is considered sufficient to assert that it is "made" here. By and large, most FO derives from a Peruvian type of anchovy, anchoveta, whose enormous catch makes Peru the world’s largest producer, with the part to be used to make supplements ordinarily being sent to China for extraction and distillation, before going back to North America or Europe to be packaged.SPECS. Using a milligram scale [figure A], I weighed a capsule before and after squeezing out the oil. The oil alone weighed 850 mg, matching the 857 mg listed on the label. Of that amount, 429 mg are EPA and 172 mg DHA, for a total omega-3s fraction of 670 mg (78%), whose EPA to DHA ratio of 2.5 is within the expected range for anchovy oil. The remaining 187 mg (22%) are the fraction of omega-6s, saturated, monounsaturated, and trans fatty acids present in FO. Given the about 2 g of omega-3s per 100 g of raw anchovies, the oil is a ~3x concentrate in re-esterified triglycerides form, which is better tolerated and absorbed than the trans-esterified form. The oil also contains 2 mg of astaxanthin (AXt) per capsule standardized to 10% potency; vitamin E to help reduce FO oxidation damage; and lemon oil to mask aftertaste. The non-veggie capsules are made of animal gelatin plasticized with glycerin. The 60 softgels come in blister packs of 10 individually sealed capsules [figure B].It is labelled as cGMP certified, but the concealment of the manufacturer makes any claim about its manufacturing facilities an act of faith rather than verification. It is also labelled as tested by a third party lab, which is undisclosed as well. At the time of this writing, actual independent testing results, particularly on toxic elements, are neither available here nor on the dot-com mynanowell website.STABILITY. FO is highly prone to oxidation by light, air or heat, and all of this can happen within the typically long, complex supply chain involved in refining the raw oil. FO quickly oxidizes to a mix of lipid peroxides and secondary oxidation products; these changes reduce shelf life and can lead to rancidity, typically resulting in a strong fishy taste and even rotten-like smell. The blister packs provide protection from air exposure, but not light (unless kept in the closed box) or heat. Refrigeration or freezing does not adversely affect the oil; on the contrary, it helps keeping it fresh, and the blisters provide a distinct advantage for this, as each cooled softgel can be removed from its blister without affecting the temperature of other softgels or exposing them to air. Figure C shows a capsule after 24 hours at -4° F. As expected from any EPA+DHA high-ish concentrate oil (where other fatty components have been markedly reduced), the contents did not become obviously cloudy. Blue circles mark the presence of a few dark inclusions in the oil, the largest of which (lowermost circle) is shown magnified in the inset.DOSAGE. Omega-3s daily intake values are not established in the US. In 2012, the EU's European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that long-term supplemental intakes of combined EPA+DHA up to 5 g per day do not raise safety concerns for the general adult population. There is no intake set in the US for AXt as well. In 2019, the EFSA assessed its Acceptable Daily Intake to 0.2 mg/kg of body weight (0.091 mg/lb) for adults and children 14 y.o. or older. For the average US adult male of ~200 lb and female of ~171 lb (12/2021 CDC's estimates), the EFSA's ADI would be about 18 mg and 16 mg, respectively. The AXt amount of this brand --between 8x less (one capsule) to 4x less (serving size)-- is unlikely to yield significant benefits.--

I Loved These Red Omega-3 Softgels!
I'm almost out of these and will have to order more soon! I love these! I always take Omega-3 supplements, and some seem to work better than others, some taste yucky and some seem to do nothing. These work wonderfully and they taste and smell so nice! They have a nice citrus smell and taste and they come individually wrapped in foil push-through packaging (blister packs), so they're always soft, fresh and citrus smelling - and never stuck together! The serving is 2 softgels per day and it's one of those supplements that is so pleasant to take, you won't "forget" to take them, you'll look forward to it! You only get a month supply, so it's slightly over a dollar a day, cost wise. Taking this particular Omega supplement has increased the health and growth rate of my hair and that's a massive plus for me- since that's one of my most desired supplement effects! I love that it has astaxanthin in it too- a bonus for my hair and skin too! :D

Fish Oil with Omega 3, DHA, EPA, and Red Anti-oxidant Astaxanthin
Americans as a population do not eat that much seafood. Given how toxic the oceans and rivers have become with runoffs, heavy metals, and other toxins, that may not be a bad thing. However, that also means that people are not getting enough essential oils like omega 3, DHA, and EPA. That is because an excellent source of these essential oils come from aquatic life. This supplement has the essential oils as well as the red anti-oxidant Astaxanthin which comes from algae. Overall, this is a good formulation containing re-esterified triglyceride (rTG) form of omega-3 that is more bioavailable than traditional fish oil. That also means that it is better tolerated with fewer gastrointestinal side effects for those with sensitive stomachs.Beware, the gelatin pills are the large ones. Wish they made these in micro gels. Overall, we all need essential oils and supplementation may be one of the safer way to get it.I gives this product 3.5 stars. A half star is deducted since the company does not provide specific details in how their product is made. For example, how did they purify out the heavy metals and other toxins from the source?

Good Omega's and More Potent
I tried this version because my other one that I'd used for years was not readily available at the time. There are some potential benefits here that my other did not have.PROS: This comes in a blister pack so the individual gel capsules don't stick together as they often do in a bottle. Recommended dosage is 2 per day but if you look at the nutritional value in this one single gel cap and compare it to other Mega Red type supplements, the values on EPA and DHA are more than double that of your standard Mega Red or Krill Oil supplement. A person could take just 1 of these daily rather than the 2 as recommended and would still be exceeding the EPA/DHA per serving you get in 2 of the other brand.CONS: Really, it's the only one I can think of after trying this product now for a while. The smell is a little clinical, medicinal, not necessarily fishy but just an odd smell to the capsules. It does not translate so far as I can tell to fishy burps or smells otherwise but it was just a little harsh when I smelled the first ones.Overall, seems to be a good product.

“Lemon flavor”
I can’t recall many pills ever advertising a flavor, since they are mostly flavorless when swallowed. Even this one has only a hint of lemon when swallowed, but you’ll taste the lemon later if you burp…
