Solid harness!
Absolutely love ruffwear! The quality of that brand is incredible. I know it’s pricey but I believe it’s totally worth it. We use this harness everyday (twice a day). We have been using it for months now. There’s zero signs of wear and tear and it looks brand new (when washed :P). It’s holds the dogs safely and seems to be real comfortable for them. The reflective parts work well at night, often bits like that come off harnesses but not this one! There a little bit at the end that’s just perfect to attach night light as well, so my dogs are super visible when we walk them at night. One of the best parts in this harnes is the handle. We have a blind dog that often gets himself in trouble rolling down hills, falling into rivers or bushes, it’s so handy to be able to pick him up and move back to the path. We constantly do it and the harness holds all his weight, incredible! This harness doesn’t come lose and there’s no way the dog can wriggle out of it, one of our dogs is absolute master in getting out of the car harness even though it’s sleepy pod and it should be impossible, however he has no chance with this harness. I would definitely recommend it, 100%. It is pricey but it will last you a lifetime. Update after 2years: we use this harness all the time, sometimes full days trips, holidays, climbing trips, etc. There’s zero damage to those harnesses, barely any wear visible. Absolutely worth the money. We will be buying a 3rd one for our new dog too.

A God sent for my aging canine friend
My aging beloved best friend is now unsteady most of the time, and also almost blind. The ice/wet mud compound this and the risks are increased . To help his confidence and protect him from injury I brought this. Measured him following the guildlines -he came up as medium - since hey usually L or XL in anything we've brought I was unsure . Still I stuck to guidelines and anticipated it would be too tight/small. I was wrong. It fits beautifully and for an old sensitive dog he isn't bothered it's on at all, infact I think he's realised it keeps him safe. So Delighted with the fit and that it's allowed me to assist him when I need too. Just take the handle and steady him up . I t is so well made and I choose the blue which looks stunning on him. I know you could likely buy something cheaper but in my opinion this harness is well designed, brilliantly made, stunning colour and does so much to help both my dog and I. I hate seeing him decline and this is a god sent worth every penny. I did also buy the bush guard to slide underneath but it didn't work out for us really not needed. Anyhow top marks from me and my boy. Thank you Ruff Wear !

Good quality harness
Good quality harness; fits perfect and appears to be, so far, very secure and escape-proof. Got one for my pup as she sometimes gets spooked and has a tendency to back away or even buck, which is pretty dangerous (and terrifying) on a busy road wearing just a collar or even a standard harness. This harness allows for easy control and prevents the chance of her slipping out of her collar, and, I would imagine, eliminate any injury or discomfort when she does panic against the collar. The downside of this product is the price. But if it lasts years then it will be well worth it. My pup could have just fit the XS but I instead bought the S to allow room to grow (she's only 7 months) - so, in theory, this harness should last a long time. Fits her great (as you can see by the pic) and the padded strap things allow you to neatly slide the loose straps inside them so they're not flapping around or being chewed on.

Great harness. Easy to adjust for fitting. Comfortable and padded to prevent any rubbing. Easy to put on.

The Only Off-The-Shelf Harness My Rehab Physio Trusted (2024 Version, Size XXS)
Size: XXS (Dog weight: 3.8 kg) Breed Type: Fine-boned toy breed Duration of Use: 18+ months Primary Use: Injury recovery & underwater treadmill therapy If you are navigating the stressful journey of injury recovery, the right mobility assistance gear is a lifeline. Having previously struggled to find a proper fitting harness for a slightly bigger dog - which forced me down the expensive route of custom-made options - I was bracing for the same headache here. With a tiny 3.6 kg frame, there is very little room for error; the wrong gear can cause secondary skeletal issues or heartbreaking setbacks. When my dog was referred to a canine physiotherapist for rehab, I was distraught. The physio was uncompromising about harness fit, citing research that restrictive gear can reinforce "bad" movement patterns. It was a moment of huge relief to hear her calm, matter-of-fact instruction: "Buy the Ruffwear Web Master; it will fit." Following that professional reassurance was the best decision I could have made. ✅ Pros: • Physio-Approved Fit: Endorsed by a canine physiotherapist; allows a full range of motion crucial for recovery and preventing bad movement patterns. • Truly Escape-Proof: Multiple adjustment points create a precision, secure fit, even for fine-boned toy breeds. • Vital Built-in Handle: Provides safe, balanced lifting support, ideal for rehab and fragile handling moments. • Exceptional Durability: Held up perfectly after 18+ months of heavy use, including underwater treadmill therapy. • Great for Tiny Dogs: The XXS size provided the best fit found for a very petite 3.6 kg dog. ❌ Cons: • Over-the-Head Design: The 2024 model must go over the head, which is a significant drawback for "head-shy" or anxious dogs (solved in the 2025/2026 version). • Potential Matting: The high-coverage design requires daily brushing or detangling spray for long-haired breeds. • Maintenance Required: It is hand-wash only (avoid the dryer) to preserve foam padding and structural integrity. • Older Design (Now Outdated): The newer models feature improved clip configurations that avoid the over-the-head placement issue. 🐾 Physio-Approved Fit & Biomechanics The 2024 Ruffwear Web Master in size XXS provided an exceptionally good fit for my petite toy breed dog. Unlike restrictive chest-plate harnesses, it allows for a full range of motion. We achieved a precision fit using the multiple adjustment points - essential for dogs that slip out of standard gear. Crucially, the harness offers significant scope to both tighten and loosen the straps, allowing for a tailored fit even with seasonal coat changes. Ruffwear’s official guidance for 2026 is that if your dog is between sizes, you should size up. I can confirm this was the right thing to do for one of my bigger dogs. A larger size allows for more adjustability and ensures the harness length adequately covers the rib cage without being too restrictive. Is This Harness Escape Proof? I have previously experienced the horror of having a tiny dog wriggle out of a standard harness in a public place. It is a terrifying experience for any owner, but I can confirm there is absolutely no chance of that happening with this harness. The Web Master is widely considered the gold standard for escape artists. Because it features a second belly strap that sits behind the widest part of the rib cage, it is anatomically impossible for a dog to back out of it when properly fitted. Once adjusted using the "two-finger" rule, it is a truly secure, escape-proof dog harness. We ensured a two-finger gap between the front strap and the armpit to prevent chafing and allow for full shoulder extension during therapy. Practical Handling & Peace of Mind The built-in handle is a vital rehab tool. It provides the balanced lifting required to prevent dangerous pressure on the neck or spine, giving me immense peace of mind during fragile lifting moments. It removed the "custom-made" hurdle and provided a superior long-term investment in my dog's safety, comfort, and ultimate recovery journey. It is robust enough to help assist senior dogs into cars or over obstacles on a trail. A Note About Matting The high-coverage design can cause matting in long-haired breeds. We manage this with a daily brushing routine and a detangling spray to keep her coat in good condition despite the large surface area the harness covers. Users of long haired breeds like Shelties and Goldens should check for friction under the belly straps after long walks. Is it Suitable For Daily Walks? 🐶 🐾 While it is built for technical terrain and mobility assistance, it is an excellent everyday alternative to a collar. It features two leash attachment points: a durable aluminium V-ring for standard walks and a reinforced webbing loop at the rear for more control. 🚫 The "Head-Shy" Drawback (Why I’m Giving 4 Stars) I am taking one star off because of the design of this specific 2024 model. My dog dislikes having this harness placed over her head and as a result, I am not using it for her daily walks. If your dog is head-shy, I strongly suggest looking at the newest version (2025/2026) instead. ❤️ The 5-Star Update for Newer Models The updated designs include the improved clip configuration, including a neck clip that avoids over-the head placement, If you are buying the newest version today, you are truly getting a 5-star harness. 🛠️ Long-Term Durability & Maintenance January 2026 update: I have now had this harness for over 18 months and it is still in as-good-as-new condition. It held up perfectly to heavy use in the underwater treadmill and rugged environments. To keep it this way, I highly recommend hand washing it with a mild detergent and drying it on a drying rack. Avoiding the tumble dryer is key to preserving the foam padding and structural integrity. Final Verdict If you need an immediate, professional-grade harness for a dog of any size that meets strict biomechanical standards, this is the gold standard. It saved us valuable time starting rehab. Though the over-the-head design of the 2024 version will be a hurdle for some dogs, the 2025 version overcomes this.

Good buy
Our Houdini spaniel can no longer find a way to back out of halters (it's virtually impossible to do so with this) & she also seems to feel more confident & secure probably as a result. We can also 'steer' and control her more as the halter gives us more of a purchase on her frolicsome and determined little girth. All the straps look very early Vivienne Westwood & it does look well made, very sturdy & smart. I used to buy a new halter every two years to ensure nothing would fail for my dog's safety, but with this halter I doubt any more halters will be necessary. Before buying I rang ruffwear who were very helpful in choosing the right type of halter. Conclusion: my previous halter purchases from alternative brands were a false economy, this is the best halter I've tried. Sizing: extra small fits my small (12kg) cocker spaniel perfectly.

Rough wear harness
Well made harness. A little stiff at first which meant adjusting the harness a few times to get the perfect fit. My Border Collie likes wearing it , having refused to wear a custom made harness in the past. Looks great. The handle on the back makes it easy for me to help my dog , who had a traumatic spinal injury a few months ago , over awkward terrain. Happy to recommend.

Not suitable for all dog shapes
Seems to be great quality but... Ordered a medium for a 30 inch chest male bulldog. Unfortunately the chest strap had to be at the largest and only just reached. The main problem though was the stomach strap, it is so far back that on a smaller stocky dog it gets in the way of having a wee! It would probably be ok for a female. It's a shame as it looks great and secure, but will have to return it.

Zina's favourite harness ...
We now have 2 of these. Our Jackapoo rescue has a red one and now a dark gray one (for formal occasions;) and also so she always has a dry one. We live in Vancouver and our 20 lb rescue Jackapoo loves to get into everything and has been known to get out of other harnesses. She seems to like this one. What we like about the Ruffwear web master is that with a bit of practice and proper initial setup it is easy to put on. We believe our dog Zina is comfortable in it because she never seems to care whether it is on or off. It is safe with a sturdy leash attachment point and also a nice loop at the back as a back up attachment point (I sometimes put a carabiner on this and attach to the lead as a backup to the main attachment) and really useful for attaching poop bags too. We believe dogs should carry their own poop bags. The handle on the harness is great for things such as helping our little huntress into the car, hanging on to her when she wants to go after something she shouldn't and dunking her lower half in a pond to get the mud off. There is some reflective stitching which helps with visibility at night and the harnesses clean up well. We hand wash them but know of others who machine wash them. Zina is one of those dogs who is always brushing up against things, walls rocks etc and while I can hear the harness being brushed against objects it doesn't seem to be showing much wear so I think the material is pretty durable. it's worth taking the time to view the Ruffwear video on how to adjust the harness and it's worth spending a few minutes to get it properly adjusted. After a few months with the red one we decided to get another which is evidence of how much we like the product. Zina goes on some hikes every month and its nice to know when we are out in the woods that we can rely on this harness to keep our dog within easy leash reach and not out there baiting the coyotes. We think it's a great product for active dogs.
