Great, but...
Edit: There's a second battery! Turns out both I and the jeweller mentioned below are just a bit dense. After prying off the back of the case, remove the large CR2032 cell battery, pop out the carrier, and hidden underneath is a tiny SR626 battery that powers the movement. A little fiddly to get everything lined up (requires bending out the little metal tabs to get good contact between the button, the carrier and the LED and have it all fit snugly together) but it's now working perfectly again. Helpful tip 1: when repositioning the plastic carrier, hold the button in and line up the indented metal tab onto the end of the protruding rod, otherwise the carrier can sit askew and stop the LED from working. Helpful tip 2: the notch in the removable case back must line up over the button or it won't snap back into place. I've given this an extra star, but still 4/5 as the watch glass on the first one I bought kept falling out. Also, I feel Dakota should really include instructions on changing the movement battery in the box. Glad to be able to keep this one going for a bit longer though. Original: I've bought 2 of these in about 5 years. Each has died after a couple of years. As others have said, battery replacement makes no difference, red LED still works. The local jewellers said the mechanism broke both times, but is prohibitively expensive to replace given the price of the watch. Unable to return to manufacturer under warranty as they're based in US. Nice while it lasts, but doesn't last forever.

Last one stopped working after 15 months
Around 15 years ago I bought a Dakota watch, fairly similar to this one but without the light, which I used pretty much all the time except for a small gap each time I had to change the battery. In summer 2023 it was still going strong but looking very worn, so I bought a new one exactly like this one (but not from Amazon and a different colour). The new one has already failed. I tried a replacement battery, it worked again briefly but there is clearly something wrong with it. I can't go back to the old one because it was stolen (a long story), so I've bought this one (from Amazon). Maybe I was unlucky with the one I bought in summer 2023, or maybe I was really lucky with the one that lasted for nearly 15 years. Anyway, if the one I've just bought fails I'll start looking for a different watch.

Really good alternative to a wrist watch
Bought this for my son, as he is a gardener. He is very happy with it. It's too soon to say if it will survive the knocks at work but, so far, so good

Great watch (see update quit after 4 months)
I bought this watch to replace a similar watch that I had for 7 years. I found the watch excellent so far, I clip it the loop of my pants cannot stand a watch on my wrist. Would highly recommend this watch from Dakota. Update my watch quit working at the end April (it kept getting stuck on the minute hand change battery same thing) I would not recommend this product. Very disappointed!

Not Your Granddad’s Pocket Watch!
This is a really cool “time piece ”. Bought it as a gift for my husband who can’t wear a watch anymore due to bruising and who fails to keep his phone in his pocket. This is nice looking and clips on his belt/belt loop. He’s too young to have an old timey pocket watch! He loves it!

Doesn’t work properly
Bought as a Xmas gift. Took out of the box and the light didn’t work. Thought it was the battery so took the back off and it doesn’t go back on. So disappointing. Sent back, want a new one that actually works! Seller didn’t get back to me. Returned it.

Good initial impression .....and only an initial impression
Just got this so my rating is an initial impression only......cannot say what to expect in the longer term I like the ired LED that is easy to activate & should help me find things....... but also maintain my night vision. It looks like it will be durable and it will clip to my vest, so I don't have added weight on my arm that will be constantly moving around, using energy. It's a fairly inexpensive piece of gear as well. IMO the watch is a compromise ......I would prefer that it had mutli-functional use.....esp. barometric pressure readout over time ....AND a temp gauge would also be a plus. Without these other features, I'm not particularly "wowed" by the watch.......but I do think it's a solid product that should last a long time.
