FRIO Cooling Wallet - Insulin & GLP-1 Cooler for 45+ Hours - GLP-1 Shots

This cooling wallet worked really well for me while traveling internationally. I activated it with water and placed it inside a zip-closed bag for extra protection from the moisture. It stayed cool enough for my needs until I reached my destination. It was especially useful while I was in an area where electricity was limited and refrigeration wasn’t always convenient. I also had no issues taking it through airport security. I like that there are several color options available too. Overall, it was practical, easy to use, and did a good job for me while traveling. This product is amazing. I was skeptical in the beginning but thought I would give it a try. Actually works great. What a relief in bringing insulin along and not have to worry about ice melting or the ice packs getting warm. Swells up quite a bit after soaking in cool water. Keeps insulin from getting warm.

At the end of a three week vacation to Europe. This cooler has worked very well. So well I’m going to give it to my girlfriend for her mother in Colombia. I’ll buy another. I charged it when I left for the trip and twice more here in Europe. It’s kept my meds cool throughout the trip. It’s left in a suitcase in the back of a rental car. It’s been warm in Europe this year. I put two vials of insulin and one Ozempic pen in the cooler. Plenty of room. Not very heavy when wet. Stores well in my med pouch. Mine doesn’t have a zipper, but the Velcro works well.

I received item, attempted to get it to work. I followed instructions about soaking time, spreading out crystals, etc. Before I potentially ruined a bottle of insulin I wanted to verify bag works. I did not at any time place a bottle of insulin into bag. The only thing I placed in bag was a thermometer. I placed a thermometer inside bag. (bag temperature) I placed another thermometer outside bag. (room temperature) Start time. 00:00 hh:mm Room temp = 80F Bag temp = 78F Time = 00:15 Room temp = 80F Bag temp = 78F Time = 00:45 Room temp = 80F Bag temp = 78F Time = 01:30 Room temp = 78F Bag temp = 76F I did this for over 48 hours. The data showed that Bag temperature was around 2 to 3 degrees cooler than Room temperature. So if Room Temperature never dropped below 85F, then Bag Temperature would never drop below 82F. If you are trying to "cool down" a bottle of insulin, this bag will not do that. My understanding at the time I bought the product was that it "cooled down". I could not get it to do that. Much, much later, weeks later, I was able to extract this info from : [...] Even in Hot Climates! Insulin must be at the manufacturer's recommended temperature when placed in the FRIO wallet. I did not know that, prior to purchasing bag. If I had known that, I would NOT have purchased bag. I was led to believe from all the information I could find at the time of purchase was that this bag "cooled down" a bottle of insulin. "Cooled down" is my phrase, not Frio's phrase. Does Frio keep an already "cooled down" bottle of insulin cool for 48 hours? I don't know, I did not test that. Does Frio "cool down" a bottle of insulin? I don't know, I never put a warm bottle of insulin in bag. Does Frio "cool down" a thermometer to something like 64F when the Room temperature is 80F? Definitely not! I can state this without reservation that the bag I bought does not "cool down" a thermometer to anything approaching near 64F if the Room temperature is 80F. That was my need at the time. I needed something to "cool down" a bottle of insulin. I was not going to be near refrigeration. I was not going to be near anything that would act like refrigeration (ice, snow, etc).

I recently learned I'm allergic to bees, as a result I need to carry an Epi Pen, but I'm also an adventurer. Learning that an Epi Pen needs to stay at a consistent temp prompted me to buy the cooling wallet. It stays cool enough in hot temps for a few hours. It's flexible so it's easy to put into a bag or purse. I wouldn't recommend using this for insulin or something that needs to be refrigerated, but it works for an Epi Pen.

This wallet works perfectly. Leave in water for 3-4 minutes and keeps my insulin cool for 2-3 days depending on ambient temps. Ive left it in a hot vehicle and it does as promised

These Frio Insulin Cooling Cases have been life savers for me while on vacation or other travel, especially if I am staying in accommodations where there is no refrigerator, which is usually the case. I have a variety of different size cases, depending on how many insulin epi pens I need to take with me. These cases do a great job of keeping my insulin epi pens at a 'safe' temperature to prevent them from spoiling. They work using evaporation to keep the epi pens cool. The case consists of two bags made of ‘breathable’ fabric. The inner bag contains crystals, locked in place, which when the bag is immersed in water for several minutes, will expand and absorb a lot of water. The inner bag is then placed in the breathable outer bag, both of which have Velcro flaps to keep them closed. When the water held by the crystals slowly evaporates from the inner bag, heat is removed from the epi pens, keeping them cool and at a safe temperature so the insulin will not spoil and go bad. It is important to keep the cases in a place where the water can evaporate (when the water evaporates, heat is pulled away from the epi pens) and cool off the epi pens, so don't for example keep them in a plastic zip lock bag, for example, or other non-breathable bag, as the water will not be able to evaporate. I keep my cases in the mesh water bottle holder of my back pack. However, I find it a good idea to use a safety pin through the outside case to secure it to the webbing on the water bottle holder to ensure it does not fall out. These cases have resolved a huge problem for me -- how do I keep my insulin at a safe temperature while traveling when I do not have access to a freezer so I can refreeze the ice packs that I normally carry with me to keep my insulin cold when I am not on vacation?. The cases can be reused many, many times by re-immersing the inner case in cold water, allowing the crystals to absorb more water. They will not last forever. After a couple of years, the crystals will absorb less water and the cases will need to be replaced. Note that some reviewers have criticized these cases for not keeping the insulin colder. I have found they will keep insulin at a temperature of 68 degrees or so when traveling in temperatures of about 95 degrees. These will not keep your insulin as cold as if they were in the refrigerator, but the insulin in an epi pen, once you start using it, should be stored at temperatures in the 60's / low 70’s anyway (please read your insulin makers instructions for what temperature they should be stored at).

I ordered this product to avoid using frozen water bags to refrigerate medical supplies and other items on travels. This keeps the items cold (sometimes too cold, danger of freezing!) for a while but then the cooling effect disappears quickly with the frozen bags after 6-8 hours. The FRIO bag works differently: the solid gel inside is activated by putting the bag into water, this forms a flexible amorphous gel. The cooling effect is simply achieved by slow evaporation of water inside and outside through the gel bag's cover. This is why I purposely didn't choose to say in the subject headline "cooling bag" but more thermo-insulated bag. The bag doesn't get colder than the water temperature in which you soak it in first. I recommend to cool this water inside a bowl or can with some ice or frozen bag and then soaking the FRIO bag in it. When taking the bag out of the water, it needs to be dried first with a towel from residual water. I found it nearly impossible to fully dry the inside of the FRIO bag - it doesn't even make sense to try since continuous evaporation of water always keeps the inside of the bag moist. I suggest to use inside of the FRIO bag an additional plastic bag with the items to be cooled, otherwise the items will get moist or wet over time. The FRIO bag maintains at least room temperature (or colder in the beginning of the cooling depending what was the original water temperature) for > 48 hours. Normally this is all you need to transport critical medicine for example. The FRIO gel bag fits into a thin cover bag which avoids that the moisture from the gel bag passes through too easily. This way no other surrounding item gets wet from the cooling bag. The wet gel bag can get heavy (depending on how long you soak it in water) and thick. Over time its volume reduces because the water in the gel evaporates which provides the desired cooling effect. Update on August, 2013: Used the bag now in summer nearly daily, and one issue became obvious: the gel is leaking out of some of the seams of the cooling bag. Bad machining. This is caused by the expansion of the gel when cooled with water, the holes of the seam expand, and gel particles leak out. I deducted one star of the rating due to this issue.

Absolutely brilliant! I've been using frio products since 2001 for a trip to Oz and they've always been completely reliable. When activated, the extra large Frio bag plus the Large frio bag with diabetic pens, etc. placed either side of other heat-sensitive medical injections in an Art for Lunch bag are an absolutely winning transport combination. Well done, Frio!

My initial order didn't arrive - I contacted the seller they posted another straight away which I received. I previously ordered one but in the mini version which is great but only big enough for 1 insulin bottle. I ordered this thinking small would be slightly bigger, but it is massive far to big. Nothing wrong with the wallet. In my opinion this should be described as medium not small.
