As a former college D1 hockey player, I have been searching for the perfect rollerblade. And believe me, I've tried them all - it's been a multi-year journey full of trial and error, and painstaking research. I like to endurance skate for exercise and I also like to roll around skate parks and hit some fun wavy terrain including half pipe and pool, though nothing too fancy as far as tricks go...yet? :) These rollerblades are the perfect ones, finally!! The stiff/hard boot (vs soft boot models) is perfect for support and protection. While in some ways I did like the soft boot blades I had by another brand (K2) they never got or stayed tight enough. These Falcons however are a high quality boot that has two main quick-to-set tightening straps as well as a lower foot tie that really only serves the purpose of locking your foot in or loosening a bit to aid in getting the boot off. Second, the weight! Not only is the stiff boot supportive it's also protective and at not a huge cost of added weight. I bought hard boot trick/street skates (Rollerbald brand) thinking maybe those would be the ones and holy crap were they heavy!! Like not fun to skate in heavy and had to pump really hard to get up hill kinda heavy. Not the case with these Falcons! They've got a slight bumper on the outside edge, a sort of nod to street/trick skates but again they are not at all heavy in comparison to the street skates I tried. And the hard lip/bumper on the outside edge seems to help with sharp turns and cuts as far as keeping the wheels gripped to the pavement so you don't wipe out. Sure they're heavier than any soft boot skate, but if you're like me and are used to hockey skate weight then these will feel familiar in this way, just a wee bit heavier. The other win for the Falcon compared to street skates is the ease of getting them on and off - the street skates were the worst and took forever to get on! And off! The soft boot skates I had were lightning fast to get on and off, but again I couldn't get them tight enough, ever. Okay so thus far the Falcons are a high quality stiff/hard boot, a totally reasonable weight, and easy & quick to get on and get tight. The last big variable that has been so hard to get right in all the other skates I've tried is comfort, in particular on the sole of the foot. These feel much more like proper skates in all the right ways. No cramping. No poor weight distribution. I can skate in these for a long time without any discomfort in the foot bed - hallelujah! You do have to wear high socks bc there is a bit of a rub around the ankle cuff but that's not a surprise, and definitely not a deal breaker! The tool that came with them was helpful in loosening a couple of the wheels that weren't rolling as fast as the others when I first pulled them out of the box. So they were essentially ready to roll straight out of the box (pun intended!). And while I don't see any need to rearrange the wheels into the "rocker" position for my needs, that's a cool option to have should I ever feel called to get into tight agility course type skating. If you're on the fence, hop down on the side of saying yes to these babies! They are high quality, worth the price, and truly are the best skates I've found after testing about 7 different types and brands, including the familiar classics like Rollerblade and K2. These are the best in the market! I got the all black, which I also appreciate as a woman that I'm not only given options of cheesy pinks and purples. No hate on those colors but come on, don't box me into the "girl" colors please. These Falcons are the best!! I am so grateful to have finally found the perfect pair!!
