A quality manual push mower.Build quality is very good, blades are sharp, and it is relatively easy to push, and to maintain.Just be wary of the handle wing nuts as they can work loose after a few mows.

A good quality mower that feels substantial (not cheap metal).

I've been eyeing different push reel mowers for over a year now and what stopped me from getting one was the lack of what I consider to be a highly rated option out there (~4.4+ stars) This was about the best I could find and I just wasn't sure it would work very well.Well, I finally decided to drop the $87 and give it a shot because my current mower (a corded electric 20" Greenworks) I picked up last year is getting to be too much of a hassle carting the cord around. It works great and I don't have much to complain about but constantly repositioning the cord easily adds 10 minutes to an otherwise ~30-35 minute job for my lawn. While I think a battery-powered electric mower would be the optimal option (certainly the fastest) I think they're just too expensive. Not to mention if the battery needs to be replaced a couple years down the road, the batteries alone can cost $150 apiece.So, enter the 18" 5-blade "American" Reel Lawn Mower. I've only given it one workout on the lawn but it worked fine. I didn't time it but I'd guess it went maybe 5 minutes faster overall than my 20" Greenworks. I expect once I get used to using it, it will save me close to 10 minutes over using the Greenworks, cutting the mowing job down from ~45 minutes to close to 35.It's not difficult to push, but if you have lots of sticks in your yard, I can definitely see that becoming an irritation because they'll stop the blades until you clear it out. The cut won't be as clean overall compared to a motored lawnmower. You will look back over a section of lawn that you mowed and there will be blades sticking up here and there that got pushed over rather than cut. There will be areas you'll need to go over twice because instead of it just being a few blades, it will be decent-sized swaths that got pushed over and clearly need to be mowed again. The blades don't turn when you pull the mower back toward you, so it's only going to cut moving forward. Also, pulling the mower back toward you can be a pain because the mower will often tilt backward forcing the blades and big wheels into the air as you drag it along the tiny rollers in the back. However, I actually had less problems pushing through tall thick-grass patches than I did when using my Greenworks mower, which oftentimes died getting through these areas.Something I didn't really account for before purchasing it was the distance between the outside edge of the wheels and the edge of the blades. It's pretty considerable, so the closest you'll be able to get to an obstacle (such as a fence) is probably 4-5" or so, requiring you to come back through and clean up with a weed eater. This is in contrast to most motored mowers with blades that usually clear out a path close to the width of the wheels, leaving much less edging to clean up afterward. I didn't find it to be much of a problem, though, because my weed eater clears out an area about 10" in diameter, so if I'm clearing an unmowed edge 1-2" wide or 4-5" wide, I still get it all in one pass.I never used the bagger on my Greenworks mower because I don't like stopping to empty it every 5 minutes. I always leave the side chute open but the downside to this was that it regularly got clogged up and would launch out giant piles of grass clippings that can smother and kill grass if you don't spread it out afterward. This reel mower eliminates that problem but constantly and evenly distributing clippings as it goes.Lastly, it was pretty fun to use. I'm sure I'll get tired of it just like any other mower, but it's a nice change from the normal style mower.Pros:Far cheaper than pretty much all mowing alternativesEnvironmentally friendly -- no gas, oil, battery charging, extension cord hassle (saves even more money)The scissor action cut is healthier for grass than standard mowers tearing actionCan be fun to useQuiet enough that you could use it at night and not bother neighborsEvenly distributes clippings as you goHandled tall grass better than expectedCons:Doesn't produce a perfect cut. You'll have to accept that it won't be perfect -- blades will be left standing and unless you want to make 3 passes over your entire lawn, this is a reality. I think it still looks quite good.There's a large gap between the cutting blades and the sides of the wheels, so it will leave a decent-width edge that you'll have to weed eat afterward.Sticks and such will stop the blades, forcing you to clear them out before continuing.No mowing in reverse -- I recommend getting used to always moving forward rather than back and forth like you may be accustom with standard mowers.

So I'll start by saying that I've used push mowers for over 20 years and over 3 different house lawns. Further I've used powered reel mowers including a Toro. So in short I've got experience here.As a kid I mowed my dad's lawn with a Toro powered reel mower and that is the Cadillac of residential mowers. Later when I moved out I bought an old used no name push mower, fixed it up and used it. It did the job. Next was a Gardina C360 (16.5 inch cut) at a price of $139 back in 2002. It was nice and lasted me 18 years and lots of lawn millage. The gears on the wheels wore out and replacement parts don't seem to be handy.So now I bought this American 18 inch cut. Wow so nice. Quiet. Smooth. Cuts with ease and does as good a job as any 5 blade reel mower would. Feels solid. Had no issue putting it together as it's as simple as 8 bolts. Deliver was quick as well including 3 days from the States.Previous comments make me laugh. Yes push reel mowers don't work well if you haven't mowed the lawn in 6 months. I recommend cutting once a week at a minimum.Yes they don't cut 100% of the grass blades so I recommend double cutting (one way then across it) to get a real fine golf course look.I would also recommend top dressing your lawn if it's bumpy or as drop offs etc. The smoother the lawn the better.All in all if you want something environmentally friendly, quiet, gets you some exercise, cuts almost as good as a professional power reel mower, and I suspect will last me 20 years than this is the mower for you.

Le lame lavorano con forza, perciò non aspettatevi zero rumore: la ferraglia si sente!Ho comprato anche “l’aggeggio” della casa madre per l’affilatura delle lame, quindi spero che il tutto duri per tanto tempo. Rapporto qualità prezzo onesto.
