After having to replace the batteries in all our detectors every year, and after having one battery fail after only 9 months and have the detector chirp constantly until I was finally able to get the step ladder and change the battery, I decided it was time to look for a better option. I'm in my 80's and climbing on anything to change a battery in a ceiling detector is a no-no. I bought two of these with the 10-year battery system, one for each end of the house. It was the best thing I could have done. They are clean and neat, and I don't need to worry about them. The warranty stays with them when I leave the house. Modern technology is definitely better for everyone. Go for it.

Do not recommend. The alarm would go off for a few seconds, I would fly out of bed and, by the time I could walk out of the bedroom, it would stop. Why is it almost always in the middle of the night?! It would leave me in anticipation that it would go off again. The klaxon definitely will wake you and ring in your ears afterwards - so, that part is good if you are unfortunate enough to have the alarm go off, legitimately.I followed all the directions for placement and did trouble shooting (many times) when getting the initial false alarms. But, it was just warming up, because it set a false smoke alarm one night and it wouldn’t stop! The reset button would not work. Unable to silence it! No batteries to remove, something that was supposed to be great but turned out not to be an advantage. The only thing that could be done was to deactivate it. After many disturbances and a lot of time trying to make it happy in its new home, I gave up. It’s dead now. It was only up for a month and a half.

Low profile. Easy install, no maintenance or upkeep of battery, use it for 10 years or whenever the service beep occurs and then toss it. I replaced an older model with this, and so far so good!

Had to return the first one because it was not operating correctly right out of the box. But the replacement came quickly, ready, and working. East to install.
