Are the states the same color?

Yes, the states are all the same color. The state boundary delineations are there, but it would’ve been better if the states were colored differently. I still like the globe and at least the countries are colored differently.

Does it show all the US states?

I purchased it for my three youngest grandchildren to see where I am located presently in Asia. I do not know the answer to the question regarding the states of our union. However, I suspect not due to the size of the globe, and comparing it to the African Continent, it certainly does not reveal provinces in any of those nations.

does it have to be plugged in?

Yes, it has to be plugged in and has a on off switch. That was the only thing I don't like. I was hoping it would charger and then work.

Almost perfect...

This is a really nice looking globe, the internal light is not too bright, and the color is perfect. The only complaint I would have is that the power cord could have been set up to come out at a better spot, as where it comes out is a tad too obvious. Maybe if they had used a right angle plug it could have been routed better, or ideally it should come out through the base.
