Exactly the snare drum sound that I was looking for
I love this thing. It has finally given me the snare drum sound that I have been trying to create for a long time now. I tried various tuning, different drumheads, Evans damping E-rings, adjusting the snare wires, moon gel, different drum mutes, tried smaller drum mutes than my 14" snare drum to try and open up the sound a bit, made my own mutes from rubberized foam, tried various towels, various towels combined with various drum mutes , etc. This Big Fat Snare Drum muting ring put a smile on my face the first time I played with it. I'm actually practicing longer because I love the sound. Highly recommended.

Fantastic and better than Steve's Donut!
The bottom line is at least in my case the XL is as good as the original Steve's Donut but doesn't reduce the head surface area so drastically.I thought it might be less effective in giving the warm, crisp sound I wanted but that was certainly not the case.If you're considering the original, I recommend you give the XL a try.It still blows my mind how well these work and no more fighting with sticky moongels, plus they're so much more effective.

Its big, its fat, its dead
If you did that big fat low dead sound on your tracks, then this is for you. Even on a 5x14 tuned way down it really added something cool. Very durable as well. I have 3 of the various models as well.

Really really nice sound!
I've been using these kind of rings, tape, gel and other ideas for years but this one laid on my snare and completely changed the sound to something punchy that stayed loud but didn't ring. I really like it.

Instant "Phat" Motown Snare Sound
I play so many genres of music that I need flexibility both live and in the studio. With this line of products I find that I have lots of possibilities. They take out all the overtones but manage to allow a really phat snare sound as well as that seventies "dead" tom sound when I use them on other drums. Plus, they are really, really durable which I love. I started with one and now have almost the whole line. I really like them as you can probably tell.

What a wonderful sound this product makes.
For those who love the sound on those Motown records made with Benny "Zita" Benjamin, Uriel Jones and Richard "Pistol" Allen playing the drums with the Funk Brothers, this product gives you that deep rich classic snare drum sound they had. This tone control ring does not choke-off the drum sound, and gives you the full tonal sustain which is very pleasant. I can play at a high rate of speed, and you can still hear the articulation of my sticking patterns clearly and cleanly. I highly recommend this product.

Kind of magic- subtle.
The media could not be loaded. For a while now Iāve just been using a microfiber towel to dampen the snare. It works fine. But itās annoying. It really deadens the snare, sometimes more than I want. Saw this and figured, what the heck.First, itās A LOT thinner than I thought it would be. When I took it out, I actually had buyers remorse almost immediately. Itās a very thin layer of plastic with a slightly thicker rubber⦠thumb⦠hole? I donāt know.Anyway⦠let me tell you. The effect this has is so subtle⦠I posted a video, I donāt know if the phone speaker really will pick it up though. Itās not BS - the tone of the snare still comes through, but thereās significantly less overtones. Iām not sure how this thin piece of plastic does it, but Iām really impressed with what itās doing. Less overtones, but more of the snares actual sound coming through vs the microfiber towel. Iām super impressed. There are some songs I play where I REALLY need a dead snare, so Iāll still use the towel for those, but for everything else this will be in place.
