Pennington Bermudagrass Grass Seed, Bermuda Grass Seed, 15 lb

Bermuda grass is either the bane of one's existence (northerners), or it's the answer to prayers for something green. For the south Texan, it's the latter. You probably don't need my story, but you'll get it anyway. I'm a confessed grass addict. I had the fancy turf, (Tiff Bermuda grass), and it was the envy of my culdesac. Then I moved into the boonies-- former farmland, clay soil, and water restrictions. I wanted grass--nay--needed it. So I bought Blackjack bermuda to replicate something of a fancy turf-- it just didn't pan out. As a backup, I bought Pennington's Bermuda. The first time I bought it, it grew very slowly, but it still grew. Bermuda takes about 3 weeks to germinate, so my seed must have been an average batch--OR SO I THOUGHT. Come to find out, I just didn't have the right conditions. Here's what you need. 1. Get a soil test and find out what nutrients are missing from your soil. pH is also important. 2. You need loose soil. Cover up that seed with loose dirt, or press it down into the dirt with a roller. Peat moss may work. Long story short, you need seed to soil contact. 3. You need a starter fertilizer with the Bermuda seed. 4. Plant at the right time. If it's too hot outside, the seed won't grow too well. I grew my first batch in October, and it was still scorching here in Texas. 5. You need consistency in watering. If you water it well, it will grow. You will need to do this for 3 weeks. Bermuda is a slow grower initially. Believe it or not, you'll still see sprouting seed 5 weeks later. When I bought Pennington for a second time, it grew like wild fire. Planting right in early spring and the weather was simply perfect. I'm about to buy my 3rd seed batch for my final planting project. 20000 sq feet

we bought 2 bags of the bermudagrass, seeded it in the spring here in South Carolina, watered it alot and nothing came up. My husband said the seed was like powder, so we believe we got ripped off by the company. We did check the bags for the experation day and it was not expired. I would not recommend this product, wasted money and time.

Seeded my front and side lawn last Sunday with my first round of seeding I de-thatched the lawn to get rid of as much build up and living organic matter as I could and mowed to a scalp to allow as much seed to ground contact as needed and even opened up a lot of bare spots from thick wild violets, and I’m watering twice a day, I’m seeing small Bermuda grass popping up every where, then on Thursday I seeded again with 15 lbs more iv read the other comments saying down by its powder and doesn’t grow, Bermuda grass seed is very tiny and can look like powder and when it starts to germinate it’s also very very tiny like zosya grass, you must reseed a few times starting out a new lawn and then over seed every year to get a thick lawn with no weeds. And it must be at least in the 70’s to 80’s to germinate too hot outside you will have to water more and hope it takes. with Warm season grass it’s the only grass you can mow low, 1 to 1 1/2 inches tall and must be cut twice a week. if your using tall fescue grass aka cool season grass it must me mowed tall 3-5 inches the taller the better it’s called tall fescue fir a reason, not scalped to the ground to keep it healthy and alive, you still mow once a week it doesn’t grow faster then scalped grass, so to the untrained eye they wasted there money when in reality they either didnt know what they where doing or how to get grass seed to germinate you must water every day it doesn’t rain. Which is easy to do. The quality of the grass seed is excellent,

Good seed. Used to repair lawn. Comes in slow but getting thicker each day. I would buy again.

Too early to tell just how good it will look by the end of summer, but the color is good, a high % germinated, and since I wanted really full coverage, I used 3 lbs. of it to cover about 500 feet instead of 5 lbs. for 5000 square feet.

Disappointed. Have grown lawns from seed many times. I made sure to have adequate seed spread out and good seed soil contact. Watered twice a day for two weeks and not a single blade. Very disappointed. Would have gotten the same result spreading 50 bucks in nickels on the lawn. I suspect the seed had been sitting for a long period of time in excessive heat or just old seed. Horrible purchase and waste of time and money (and paying to water dirt)

Even with the hot California weather and direct sun, the grass started sprouting in just five days. I was honestly shocked by how quickly it came up. This seems like a great grass seed for hot, sunny climates, and I would definitely recommend it. I did have to water frequently to keep the seed wet until sprouting but it was worth it.

I NEVER write bad reviews, but unfortunately this product, and the customer service team at Pennington deserve this one.. I have worked endlessly on my lawn since it started growing back this spring. I have treated with herbicide, fertilizer, I pulled weeds, everything i could for a perfect lush lawn. The last thing to do was to seed the bare spots I had.. I ordered this bag and followed the instructions word for word. Even ran my sprinklers several times a day which almost doubled my usual water bill. When the seeds started sprouting I was SO excited! That excitement quickly disappeared, though as I realized *this doesn't look like my grass”.. I paid a lawn care company to come out and look at the lawn to see what was going on with it, and they told me that I had massive amount of crabgrass growing where I had put the “Bermuda” seeds…… I called Pennington later that day and I spoke with a woman who told me “We can not send you a new bag of grass seed, we will not send you herbicide to take care of the weeds we caused in your lawn, and we cannot refund you without the bag the seeds came in”. I told her that I had thrown the bag away the day I planted the seeds (because who keeps the empty bag??) and she told me that basically I'm out of luck. So not only was the seed I purchased Crabgrass (an invasive lawn weed), I ran my water bill up, & paid someone to come see what the problem was. Just to be told that it sucks to suck lol. Now I have to go out and dig up each of these by hand and restart my lawn rejuvenation process with a different brand of QUALITY seed…
