Pennington Contractors Northern Grass Seed Mix, 40 lb | Bulk grass seed for overseeding and lawn repair, covers up to 4,000 sq ft, plant in spring or fall

This is beyond a doubt the best grass seed I have ever used. Made for Northern climate April and May are the perfect time to put it down. Took 9ndays to come in but 98 percent of it germinated. Methodoly was the lay down dirt and tamp itin. Used cars garden weasel to rough it up and applied the seed with a solo cup. A heavy application. Went back and retamped it all. Grass is stunning. After the first application took I laid down about 15 pounds in areas that were not as think. That just came in. Could not be happier with this product. Neighbors are suprised at how thick it is.

I moved in to a home in January of this year with a huge yard, but it was ALL mud!! I laid out this grass seed with the Pennington full season lawn fertilizer in March. I was skeptical because the seeds were just sitting on top of the mud and there wasnt much progress after a few weeks. It is June 1st today, I took the grass pictures this morning for this review. I mowed my 3.5 foot grass for the first time 2 weeks ago, and again on Thursday, and its already growing out up to 4 or 5 inches. Today is Monday morning. This worked BETTER than expected. But it did take my lawn longer to take than most the reviews already posted.

Spread it, water and watch the grass grow.

No seed will grow if you just throw it on top of the ground and hope. Preparation is a lot of what makes growing grass successful. But this seed is amazing and my pictures prove it. Pic 1 was May 17. Pic 2 was May 27. 10 days and amazing results. My process: Rototill 4 inches, seed with a handheld spreader, cover with topsoil, level, more seed, light topsoil, straw. Then water in the morning if it doesn't rain. Is it a lot of work, yes. Does it yield great results, also yes. It grows nice and thick and is so far durable if you miss a day of watering.

We are overseeding lawn cause i killed it when i killed clover. I was worried about contractor grass seed. Never used it. But this is quality seed. 1st it is coated with green fertilizer so its a smart grass seed. It spouted in one week! We been watering of course and 2nd week it is lush and thick. Some spots still needs to be water cause sprinkler didn't hit that area. We also bought a tri-pod and a small rotating sprinkler from Temu. Both cost about $13.00 ea. The small black fan sprinkler you can control the width of spray and it covers 19 ft area with water all the way open. Love it. Both covers a lot of area and work great. The tri-pod at store was $55. but this was $13. Bought both at Temu online .Just giving heads up to save you money. It does take a week to recieve delivery.

I NEVER write bad reviews, but unfortunately this product, and the customer service team at Pennington deserve this one.. I have worked endlessly on my lawn since it started growing back this spring. I have treated with herbicide, fertilizer, I pulled weeds, everything i could for a perfect lush lawn. The last thing to do was to seed the bare spots I had.. I ordered this bag and followed the instructions word for word. Even ran my sprinklers several times a day which almost doubled my usual water bill. When the seeds started sprouting I was SO excited! That excitement quickly disappeared, though as I realized *this doesn't look like my grass”.. I paid a lawn care company to come out and look at the lawn to see what was going on with it, and they told me that I had massive amount of crabgrass growing where I had put the “Bermuda” seeds…… I called Pennington later that day and I spoke with a woman who told me “We can not send you a new bag of grass seed, we will not send you herbicide to take care of the weeds we caused in your lawn, and we cannot refund you without the bag the seeds came in”. I told her that I had thrown the bag away the day I planted the seeds (because who keeps the empty bag??) and she told me that basically I'm out of luck. So not only was the seed I purchased Crabgrass (an invasive lawn weed), I ran my water bill up, & paid someone to come see what the problem was. Just to be told that it sucks to suck lol. Now I have to go out and dig up each of these by hand and restart my lawn rejuvenation process with a different brand of QUALITY seed…

Not great germination rates.
