Very Pleased with this machine
What a great Espresso Machine. Coffee snob here and know a good brew when i taste it. This machine exceeded my expectations. Love all the programmable features and settings and of course the delicious brew at the correct tempature and the frother is ideal. Makes a perfect cappuccino. Yes it's a little pricey for a coffee machine but have'nt bought a cup a java since. I'm actullay saving money using the Delonghi. Highy recommend, you wont be disappointed.

Great Machine — My Second De’Longhi!
This is my second De’Longhi espresso machine, and it’s just as reliable as my first. The Magnifica Start is super easy to use, makes great espresso, and the built-in grinder and automatic milk frother make mornings effortless. Lattes and cappuccinos come out perfect every time. It’s simple to clean, compact on the counter, and the one touch buttons make it totally beginner friendly. If you want great coffee at home without the hassle, this machine is a winner!

What the Puck?
I am not sure what makes me more upset- that this well-known company put out a coffee maker that can't make a decent cup of coffee. Or that I wasted SO much money on it. The most basic function of this machine should be to make a simple cup of coffee. Good luck with that. The size of the "puck" of coffee for whatever you do with this machine is always the same. So if you want a bigger cup of coffee-the amount of coffee grinds used is the same as the small cup. The only difference is how much water it uses. That means that your 12 oz cup of coffee is weaker than the 8 oz. To adjust the size of the cup you want you press the coffee button until it blinks. You wait at the machine until your cup fills to where you want it and then you press the coffee button again. This then becomes your default (size) cup setting. Great right? Except that the next person who wants coffee has no idea what size of cup they are getting. If I brew a small cup and my husband wants a 12 oz he's getting an 8 oz unless he uses the same process. And his 12 oz cup is weak. De Longhi made the strength of the coffee a seperate interface you can easily see. But somehow neglected to make selecting the size of the cup and the setting clear. And sure- you can make two cups but guess what? No normal mug(s) fit under the two nozzles side by side. Ergo the two-cup function requires you to put a single large container of some sort under the nozzle and then pour from there into two mugs. Making two cups of coffee for ourselves each morning is a chore. We ran through a ridiculous amount of bean brands to find a bean that would be strong enough for a large cup and not taste terrible when a smaller cup is brewed or a weaker setting is selected. There is also no way to know how many beans are in the machine aside from a visual above it. Often you wind up starting a cup of coffee only to hear the dreaded "empty" whirling noise you'll come to recognize. If you're not standing near the machine to stop it still brews the cup. Don't forget the container you have to put under the machine for every on/off cycle. It cleans itself with water both when it is powered on and when powered off. This means you run through a LOT of water. If you have hard water like we have you'll need to descale and replace the filters constantly. And to descale is a 15 STEP PROCESS. This is not an exaggeration. We made it less than two months between descales last time. You CANNOT disable the auto-shut off. You can only adjust the amount of time that passes before it shuts itself off every day. (While there is a vessel under the machine to catch this extra water it fills quickly and you have to empty it often. Even De Longhi suggests putting a seperate container under it to catch this bypass water.) What about the rest of the functions? Mercifully espresso is good. You can get a good cappuccino about 7 out of 10 times. Often you just get an espresso with a lot of hot milk and zero froth. Again you can't adjust the size of the cappuccino because the puck size is always the same. I brew a small cup of coffee before running the cappuccino to get a remotely decent size amount. We have to leave the instruction manual out because this thing has so many codes and lights to interpret. "Simple One Touch" is anything but. We are both technically savvy people- it's ridiculous. We recently went on a vacation where our hotel both had the most basic, old fashioned Cusinart coffee makers. Filter. Drip. We were SO happy we could finally, easily, get a decent cup of coffee. We have guests visiting soon. I plan to buy another cheap coffee maker to use rather than try to have a college course on making a cup of coffee if we aren't around. Ridiculous. I splurged on this thing and (clearly) I regret it.

Best machine on the market!!
I bought my wife this for Christmas, I read a hundred reviews on this and the Philips 3200/3300, I chose this one because of the stainless steel grinder over the ceramic grinder. My wife is a coffee geek and I was so stressed she would like this machine. This was the best Christmas gift I have ever bought her that she truly loves!!!! I also bought her starbucks whole beans and pre-ground. That morning all she could do, was set up her new machine. I have read it takes a quite a few brews until if breaks in, all I know is she claims the first brew was the best cup of coffee she has ever had, however a couple weeks in she says the same thing. About 30 days of use, the descale light came on and even though it will still brew with the light on, she didn't use it that day before work and stopped at starbucks to get a cup and said she ended up throwing away the starbucks because it seemed too weak and didn't taste as good as her machine. When I got home, I followed the instructions on how to descale and it was super simple and took about 30 mins, and she's off making the best coffee she's ever had. I read reviews that this machine is high maintenance, I wouldn't agree with those reviews, you have to add water when it gets low and you have to empty the hockey puck tray every other day. As for descaling, I think there's a built in timer that is based on how many cups of coffee brewed instead of a sensor in the machine sensing scale build-up, I say this because we use R/O water to fill the tank and the machine has a built in filter also. Either way, the maintenance is not excessive. This is by far the best Christmas gift she said I ever got her and seeing her this happy over her coffee makes me happy! By the way, she use to go to starbucks 6 days a week and for what they charge for a cup of coffee, this machine has practically paid for itself as she no longer goes to starbucks! If any of you are on the fence about purchasing this machine, this is the one to buy! I would buy this machine again!

Great machine
Very nice machine that is completely self contained. Brews a great cup of coffee! Auto milk frother is super nice and cleans itself after each use. Machine is a bit pricey but I love mine.

Milk frother stopped working
I wanted to love this coffee maker. When I first got it I had no issues. The milk was nicely frothed and the coffee tasted good. But as I’ve used it the milk frother doesn’t froth the milk anymore. I’ve done everything. Replaced the plastic tube, thoroughly cleaned it and even tried different milks. For what I paid it should still be working and it should make a bigger coffee. I have to run it 3 times just to get a normal size coffee. I’m planning on selling it because it’s been too long to return it and go back to my Nespresso. I’m really disappointed

GREAT machine, a little finicky.
All in all, zero regrets on purchasing this. Considering a basic latte out is $6-$7, this has paid for itself in just a handful of months. It's an investment, but it actually pays for itself. My only complaint is that it's a little finicky... The milk frother is great, but the insert that goes between the machine and the frother will get stopped up. We push the "clean" cycle probably 3+ times to really ensure it gets actually clean - the one cycle it suggests really doesn't do it, and you'll slowly notice it steams less and less milk. The inners of the machine are also a little difficult to clean, but the pressing/brewing unit does come out easily. For the compact size of the unit, I can understand the difficulty to REALLY clean the inside, to a point. For the price, there's a LOT of customization if you read the manual, the espresso is really good for an average guy, and it's REALLY easy. My only "complaint" is that you have to make your drink shot by shot... The latte setting is the larger steamed milk portion and a shot, and it fills a modest coffee mug halfway up - meaning If I want to fill my 16 ounce travel cup, I have to run 3+ cycles to get enough. But, honestly it's a small price to pay and it's not really a significant issue. If you fill the water and beans up the night before, you spend less than 5 minutes making coffee, which is a fraction of the time we used to spend on our manual espresso machine.

Worth money
It is a little loud , but easy to work and high quality coffee. It also work with ground coffee as well and beans which didn't mention and add extra value to it

A fabulous coffee machine!!
I had used my friend’s exact machine, over the summer while visiting her. Therefore, it was simple for me to set it up. But, had I not known the working of the machine before-hand, I think it would have been complicated to follow the hard copy directions. Be patient as you do it. The coffee is delicious. It is easy to make when all the parts are set up. It is quite a convenient size, even though it makes many different gourmet coffee options (or hot water). My cupboards are quite low since I have hidden lighting below them. So, I set up a coffee centre on a chest with a glass top, beside my counter. Now, it is very easy to access the top for the addition of the coffee beans. I purchased the machine with an automatic frother and it was worth the money. My husband likes lattes. I prefer black coffee. So, it suits us perfectly. I highly recommend this coffee machine. I wonder why I waited so long to buy a really expensive coffee machine?? We always get what we pay for. It is worth the dollars.
