A great reproduction, Vietnam era helmet cover.
When I was a kid, we had a helmet in the barn that we played soldier with. I have no idea whose it was, it could have been my dad or one of my uncles. It had this cover. Over the years, the helmet was lost, of course, but I remembered it.On a whim, I picked up a post-WW2 helmet for a few dollars, but it didn't have a cover. I discovered that original, Vietnam era cloth covers were more money than I wanted to spend. Therefore it was cool when I saw this product; would it work?Yes, it did! I put it on my helmet, and with a few tugs and pulls got it mostly into shape. While the fit isn't perfect, I remember that the GI ones weren't great, either, without a lot of effort. If you're in the market for an authentic looking RVN helmet cover, this one is good.Recommend.

U.S. Mitchell Pattern Splinter Camouflage M1 Helmet Cover? Great Fit! Looks awesome!
Well, being a veteran of the US Army and a lifelong military-gear geek, I absolutely love it!When I first got to my unit in 1983, some of the older guys that had been there a while still had the Mitchell pattern covers and brown dominate ERDL Camouflage uniforms along with their new Woodland BDU Uniforms. I came to the unit with a full issue of gear in Woodland (except for my two M-65 field jackets which were issued in OD, which I was not happy about at the time, but they turn out to be more coveted now) but I did get issued one set of ERDL's.The unit was still in love with the ERDL pattern so they managed to find me a set so that I could fit it, I guess. Unfortunately, the Mitchell covers were a rare thing by then and I was stuck with the Woodland cover. I was alway jealous but what can you do. I got out of the Army before the unit got K-pots. I'm still an M1 helmet kind of guy.Anyway, I set the helmet cover up with the Green side showing, but I like the brown side, too, so I'll probably buy a second cover, and perhaps, a second helmet, too. And, by the way, to get the proper look you'll need to soak the cover and stretch it onto the helmet and put the camouflage-band on (order a camouflage band). I wrapped my helmet-liner in a white trash can liner to protect it from moisture (the helmet liners are old at this point so take care of them) and then inserted liner into the helmet so that the cover can dry in place as it will be used. The M1 Helmet is ICONIC and beautiful to look at. This cover does it justice.

The full story
This helmet cover is absolutely fantastic, its color is good. Pattern in perfect. Dont listen to the negative reviews, they dont really have the full story. Yes this cover is bigger, it is designed to fit any M1 steel pot of the period from wwii to vietnam becasue the army reussed the helmets for their entire service life, in 1965 the helmet shell recived a revision, it became a 1/2 inch shallower than the earlier korea and wwii made helmet shells. So this cover is accurate. To defeat the mohawk look, simply wet the helmet, squeeze out the water, and shape it to the helmet, apply the helmet band. On a historical note, this is based off the earlier patterns of covers, where the dog ear flaps are lower than late and post vietnam covers, the way to use the chinstraps with the cover is to cut two small slits where each chinstrap loop are located, after that feed the chinstrap through the loops, and either buckle under the chin, let hang, or buckle to the rear of the helmet. Later covers avoid the issue by lengthening the middle cuttouts of the cover to allow the chinstraps to be used without cutting any loops

Needs improvements but it’s still useful
Small summary: this is good for airsoft scrimmages but not perfect for reenactments if you want something with a budget go ahead and grab this but if you go on eBay the cost difference is not too far off from this. Long summary: Now let’s start off with the positive it’s a great alternative on somewhat of a budget and if you wear and tear your covers a lot and don’t want to hurt your original ones, this would be good for airsoft but not perfect for reenactment but budget friendly, that being said I will have to shape this over trying to see if it molds over the helmet better. Now the stitching is clearly the problem on the brown side the stitching clearly points out to make it obviously appearing comparing to the original where it’s harder and the stitching on the edge definitely stand out, now in the jungle side the stitching is less which is nice but definitely needs improvements to be tighter close, The colors will fade out I assume so that’s no big deal, fits fine into the helmet however I do notice the cut outs are NOT low enough to the original they’re off by a quarter inch, now looking at these images you can clearly see the quality difference this Amazon one has much rougher texture compared to the original where it’s softer they use the more nylon in the Amazon one, I would totally get more just for the fact I don’t want to ruin my original covers and plus I can actually scribble marker on it without ruining my historic items and use this for my airsoft game so I don’t ruin them with the rain and weather overall this is a OKAY item to grab for your movie/airsoft games otherwise do not get this mainly for reenactment unless you’re a starter!

10/10 Good stuff. Buy for Vietnam war stuff.
Alright so to make things straight. This helmet cover is 100% good quality. And the “mowhawk” effect it causes like other reviews say. Is true. BUT. That’s how ALL covers were from 1940’s to the early 1980’s. You’d have to soak the helmet cover and form it to the helmet. THIS IS HOW ALL HELMET COVERS WERE UNTIL THE early 80’s. And the myth where people say “this is for a WW2 helmet not a Vietnam era helmet” is bogus. You know why? Because the US used the “steel pot” m1 helmet til the early 80’s. So. Yeah. They don’t know what they’re talking about. The “steel pot” was nicknamed that way because marines used the m1 helmet first and when wet caused a shinning effect when the moonlight hit it. ALL m1 helmets are the same until early 80’s when the US switched to the PASGAT Kevlar helmet.Short: Wet the helmet cover. Form it over your M1 Helmet, let dry and go to town with art work on it if you want.
