PetSafe ScoopFree Premium Natural Cat Litter, 8 lb Bag

Does well with the scoop free litterbox. Low dust, no clump. With 2 cats that have very regular bathroom visits, I change it twice a month and it seems pretty good. Odor control is not as good as the crystals and it does still track some but it's much more cost effective than the crystals!

So far good. Poured a bit over the existing Tidy Cat Ultra Light Clumping and Apache immediately went into pee. Have always used non clumping litter since the 1970’s until recently when I adopted a male 4 year old from the city shelter after my 3 female cats had passed away. Want to keep his urinary track and all of him So first time having a male cat since I was 8 years old. I’ve heard/read know male cats get urinary issues more easily so when he started peeing more frequently, had the vet check him out. Luckily all tests normal. I had begun using clumping litter after always us regular clay and became further concerned after reading there is a chemical in clumping litter, that if ingested can create a serious health issue for a cat. Apache washes his paws in his water bowl. We clean and replace the water a few times throughout the day , but still what if he ingested some of the clumping litter and it hardened inside him. That is scary. So decided to try PetSafe litter Premium Litter. No chemicals, no additives, no fragrances, no dyes. Yay!! No clumping and I am fine with that. If you pour into box closer to litter box (I sit in a chair) not from a standing it reduces creating a plume of dust. I like the way this litter looks similar to clay litter but better! Not concerned about urine or waste odors since it says “ superior odor control” on the bag. I did find that the metal litter scoop lets small wet pieces fall through so I found a plastic strainer at $tree with smaller holes that works perfectly for tiny pieces. I also tilt the litter box and scrape out wet litter that maybe be at the bottom, with a dust pan. We scoop his box frequently throughout the day. I wouldn’t like a dirty bathroom either.

I usually buy PetSafe ScoopFree Premium Crystal Litter but by mistake I somehow ordered this kind. I figured since I had it I would use it but in my opinion PetSafe should stop selling it. It was so dusty when I put it in the litter boxes and every time I scooped the boxes too. My cats are subjected to this dust every time they use the litter boxes which can not be healthy for them or me. There is so much dust it leaves a film on our furniture and everything close to the boxes. Besides the dust, this litter does nothing for the smell of the cat urine. The litter boxes smell disgusting as this litter does not seem to absorb any of the ammonia smell. The crystals are an excellent litter that I have been using for years with no problems.

Easy enough to clean and works well with my ScoopFree box. It doesn't seem to control odors as well as the crystals.

I ordered this because the fine-grain Skoon litter my cat likes has been out of stock since the beginning of September, both here and on their own website. I keep an extra bag on hand but finally used that up and needed something! This is made from the same stuff (diatom pebbles), so I was cautiously optimistic. It's also less expensive: $20 for 8 lbs, where Skoon is $30 for 8 lbs. At first glance, it looks very similar to Skoon's fine grain product, with pebbles the same size but more color variety in the mix. I noticed a slight smell when pouring it into the clean litter pan. Not a bad smell, just different from the plain neutral dry dirt smell of Skoon. The first time my cat went in to use it, she had a lot to say about it - literally, she stepped in, sniffed around and came right back out without using it and meowed at me for a few minutes while I apologized and explained that the people didn't have her regular one so I had to get this one for now. She grudgingly decided to use it 😆 This one is low tracking, about like the Skoon fine-grain. It does not control odor as well as the Skoon brand. I used the same quantity/depth in the litterbox as I do for Skoon, which would last two full weeks with odor well controlled, and even into a third week by adding some zeolite sprinkles (NonScents) after stirring/scooping. I had to start using the zeolite with the Pet Safe litter after six days, and fully change and clean the box on day 11, as the ammonia smell was just overwhelming, and my cat pottied in the atrium in protest. I was scooping poop and stirring the pebbles at least once daily, as I did with the Skoon, but this one just did not hold up. Since Skoon fine-grain is *still* out of stock, I ordered another bag of this one, and will just plan to use a little less to stretch it, and will have to fully change the box every week instead of 2x/month.

great cat litter. very expensive as buying 3 bags is a breaker. cant buy in large bag.. Still good. I don't know any litter thats dust free from any but like how its white and easy to cleanup smell.. Doesn't take a lot if one cat a little more if 2. More than 2 more separate litter pan. I really like it.

I have one elderly cat with dilute pee and somehow this litter STILL manages to absolutely reek after 6 days of use, even with the recommended "stirring" to mix it together for better absorption. Sorry, but if I'm paying $41 for what equates to 2 weeks of litter, it should be stirring itself. Absolutely not buying this again, moving to the poowee brand which is a lot cheaper, bigger bags and has much better reviews. Gave it a real go for a few months but it's just not living up to its promises.

I never thought I’d write a review for litter but I am baffled by how bad this product is. I am normally a happy PetSafe customer and will happily continue to buy their premium litter until I find a cheaper alternative but I can promise you this one isn’t. You get 2x as much litter for the same price as their premium products but will run out faster. I have their automatic litter box and had to swap the litter every day because of the foul smell. It smells bad after every use and I finished the whole bag in a week. Their premium litter does a good enough job that I could be out of town for the weekend and come back home to almost no smell. Unfortunately I will keep paying more for the premium litter until my local shop can offer a good and cheaper alternative compatible with my automatic litter box.

It didn't work as expected in the automatic Pet Safe cat litter. My cats were okay with it.
