I needed a short rod version of the 18 mm ball pop up lever to fit a small space under the sink so the rod would not interfere with the wall. The wing nut is made of hard plastic with the integrated seal and did not leak after installation. I did carefully slide the ball down the shaft 3/8" to increase drain penetration.I also epoxy coated the rod that extends into the drain to improve corrosion resistance although this is not necessary as the chrome rod is quite thick and will last for years anyways.
