is this slow cooker insert lead free?

No, it seems it's not lead free. Testing found lead at 386 ppm -- http://tamararubin.com/2017/01/slow-cooker/ . I wish I saw that before I bought this thing a couple weeks ago. Ridiculous.

Yes, this slow cooker does brown food. I'll often use it to sear meat prior to putting in other ingredients like veggies and sauces.

Kitchenaid is NOT customer oriented, I had problems with a processor that was almost $300 and they were no help...I just bought this cooker because of the glowing America's test kitchen review, it will be going back if it isn't what they say it is.

My ceramic tub seems to jostle around and move a decent amount when placed in the warmer. Is that normal?

I assume it is normal. I have a little room (maybe 1/2 inch) that enables it to move left and right. It does not affect the performance of the cooker.
