A lovely romance and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I really enjoyed this historical romance, and was glad to see the characters from the first book again. I liked Juliana's character especially, and enjoyed the way that she stood up to Harry and other characters in the story. I particularly enjoyed the historical background in this book and found myself looking up details that I haven't studied since I was at school! I thought Harry's background was well-written and gave his character depth, as well as allowing the reader to empathise with all he has been through.

Lovely read. Sweet and clean romance
Part 3 of a series of 3 although can be read in isolation. I would love to meet the Fanton family so that, in itself, says a lot about the way these stories have been written.

The characters in this book are so well developed that they feel like friends, and the historical backdrop just fascinating. This book made me laugh and cry, and I couldn’t put it down. 💕 Thank you Catherine for another wonderful book in a genre I would never before have considered!

I normally love Mills and Boon historical but I skipped large amounts of this to just get through. Pacing was wrong. Characters were better.

I'm completely in love with this one!
At this point, I don't even read blurbs. If it has Catherine Tinley's name on it, that's more than enough for me!My love for this book is indescribable. It's just the way in which Tinley's descriptions make you feel as though you are a part of the story, and not just reading it. The historic detail has been researched to perfection, from the major events of history right down to the minuscule details of their clothes, furnishings etc, everything is spot on for the era. Tinley has this superb gift for writing just enough to keep her reader on the edge of their seat, she has the perfect, and I mean perfect, balance of not giving everything away yet keeping her reader intrigued. If she wasn't so superior in the historical romance genre I'd suggest she write crime/mystery fiction! The main romance centres on Juliana and Harry. Although Tinley excels at bringing in secondary characters that just add to the plot too. I love how complex both characters are, they both face many barriers at finding love. Juliana isn't really sure who she is, her life has been shrouded in things she doesn't understand, things that have been kept from her. This story is just as much about her finding herself as finding love. Harry is broken from his time in the war. But unlike when you lose a limb or have a 5-inch scar down your cheek, his broken is psychological and can't be seen. So he comes across as such a happy and outgoing man about town, yet hides a well of pain and emotion. The way in which Tinley has tackled such a personal and sensitive subject is quite... I don't know... monumental I would say. She's taken PTSD, a serious problem which even now we don't understand enough about to properly treat, and she's really handled it with so much care, and knowledge! You can tell she's done her research or has seen it first-hand. I'm in awe of the dedication to realness, to accuracy that Tinley puts into each and every page.Overall I don't really know what to say, the love story is superb, the banter between the characters is funny, yet the issues they face have me in tears. If I had to liken this effect to anything else it would be the film Steel Magnolias, something that makes you laugh, yet touches this part of you and brings you to tears.

A lovely Regency Romance..
Juliana Milford first meets Captain Harry Fanton in 1815, when she is newly arrived in England from Brussels. She and her mother, Elizabeth are on their way to spend time at Chadcombe House, with Juliana's dear friend Charlotte, who is newly married, but first, they must take rest in The King's Head, a coaching inn, near the port of Dover. Due to unexpected circumstances, the ladies are forced to share the Inn's facilities with Captain Fanton and his companion, which causes Juliana some consternation.Juliana is shocked when Harry unexpectedly arrives at Chadcombe House and is even more surprised to discover that Harry is none other than Charlotte's brother-in-law. At first Juliana is impervious to Harry's considerable charm but as the story progresses and we are given more of an insight into Juliana's background, we start to see a distinct thawing of the relationship between Harry and Juliana. However, Harry is fighting his own particular demons and doesn't feel that he has anything to offer a prospective bride. What then follows is a delightful "will they or won't they" Regency romance which is set against the background of the early nineteenth century as the country is preparing for a continuation of the war with Napoleon. And whilst there is a light and easy feel to the story, especially in Juliana's close relationship with her friend, Charlotte, there is also a darker edge which links to a secret in Juliana's past which threatens to spoil her future happiness. The author writes well and certainly knows how to bring both place and people alive in the imagination. I soon found myself quite immersed in this lovely story and especially enjoyed how several story lines came together to give us a tantalising glimpse of Regency life and of the restrictions placed on women. Having said that, Juliana is a feisty heroine and I enjoyed reading of her interaction with Harry and hoped that everything would work out well for them. It's been a long time since I immersed myself in a Regency romance and I had quite forgotten how much I enjoy reading them. The Captain's Disgraced Lady is a really enjoyable example of the genre and I am sure will appeal to those readers who enjoy this type of historical romantic fiction.I recently discovered that this is the second book in the Chadcombe marriage series, the first book being Waltzing with the Earl, which gives us Charlotte's story. However, I didn’t feel at a disadvantage for not having read the first book as The Captain's Disgraced Lady sits comfortably on its own merits as a lovely standalone story.

1815This is the second book in the Chadcombe Marriages series but one can follow along without reading the first book.Honestly, I enjoyed this book more then I did Waltzing with the Earl(her debut book).Miss Juliana Milford and her mother have just arrived to England. She encounters Captain Harry Fanton while breaking their journey in an inn. When rumors begin to surface in London, Juliana begins to depend on Harry. Its a well paced historical book with witty diagloue, some twists and an enjoyable cast. Great depth to the characters and I loved how the author included the grim battle scenes. Clean romance.

Harry and Juliana
A seemingly, happy go lucky military captain meets a surly take no prisoners young miss enroute from Dover to England. Conflict ensues and from the conflict love blossoms as secrets are revealed.I enjoyed reading this book. The language was descriptive and the author's writing is just lovely. I look forward to reading more from Catherine Tinley.
