Streamlight 88085 ProTac HL-X 1,300-Lumen Flashlight, Black

I have this light for work and it is excellent, so I bought one for personal use at home and in my vehicle. The item description is a little confusing but it does come with the rechargeable battery. The pleasant surprise was that they have upgraded the batteries to the universal “C” charger. This light is worth the cost, it’s extremely durable and compact, and it is one of the brightest I have carried. Their customer service is excellent as well, I had an older streamlight that got broken. I sent it back and when they couldn’t fix it they sent me a new one. Unfortunately my vehicle was broken into and it was stolen. Very great company and excellent products.

In addition to a pocketknife problem, I've developed a bit of a flashlight problem. I have everything from $8 micro lights up to $400 custom built flashlights, in all different sizes, different emitters, using all different battery types.Different lights have different applications. This is a little too big (in my opinion) for an "everyday carry" light - I have a small AAA light affixed to my keychain for that - this is my newest "tactical light."If I were a cop this is what I would carry on duty. It is BRIGHT. Blindingly bright. And the throw is exceptional. For it's size, this thing is a powerhouse.People underestimate the flashlight as a self-defense tool. They're totally legal to carry. No cop is ever gonna give you grief for having one, and they can give you a real tactical advantage in the right situation - and unlike a firearm or even pepper spray - you're not gonna face any legal ramifications for shining this in someone's face (unless maybe they're driving and they crash because of it - don't do that.)I specifically bought this flashlight because there's an insane alcoholic man in my neighborhood who is growing more and more unstable and violent - screaming racial epithets, damaging private property, sometimes starting violent altercations with people, chasing young female joggers down the block, and sometime staggering down the street yelling at the trees - he's made my wife afraid to leave the house and take a walk, and I've decided to make him my project. He'll either be going rehab or jail soon.This is the light I'll bring outside to confront him at night. If he comes towards me aggressively, I'll light him up (I have it set to "high only"), and I'm sure he'll have a hard time seeing well enough to follow through on his threats. If it came down to it, I'd use it to alternately blind him and box/subdue him. If things really went south I'd use the light itself as a striking object, as it fits very well in the hand.I used another one of my bright 18650 cell flashlights to do exactly that last week, and as soon as I lit him up it sent him scurrying away and cursing. This light is even brighter than that one, so I'm excited to take it for a spin.This is my 4th Streamlight product. The only time I ever had a problem with one was with a pistol mounted light, and the company sent me a new one, no questions asked. I have no doubts as to it's ruggedness, but if I have any problems in the future I'll update this review.I'll probably by 2 more - one for my wife, and one for my truck.

One of brightest flashlights I've owned, particularly for it's size, at 1000 lumens/27k candela (on high). Battery life is good as well - with the Streamlight 2100 mah 18650's I get 1hr 30 mins (on high) and 1 hour with 2two CR123's (again, on high). The lowest setting is 65 lumens, and I average 8 to 9 hrs on that low setting with their supplied SL 18650.The ability to be able to use both battery types is also quite nice as well. Streamlight calls it "Duel Fuel" iirc.It's got their proprietary "10 tap programming" which gives you 2 distinct sets of lighting options; Low - Med - High / High Only / and then the factory default is High - Strobe - Low.It's also rated IPX7. That makes it drop-safe to 1 meter and also water resistant to 1 meter (submerged) for up to 30 mins. So no worries using it in any kind of rain.I've owned many, many different lights over the years, and from loads of companies. Yet I always seem to come back to Streamlight for their consistent reliability, quality and good prices. (Surefire is also a great company, but as I have to buy some of my own gear, including lights, Surefire is just too expensive for me - even though they're super rugged and high quality)TL/DR; awesome, reliable, powerful light with excellent battery life and flexible options. Especially considering the price! 10 out of 10, I highly recommend.

Streamlight as many likely agree really needs to improve their technology. This light is a very solid and reliable unit. The 1000 lm at 27K candela is very bright. Medium 400lm is also very bright. This is probably best for a car/truck/garage light. The high mode is blinding indoors making it not very “tactical?”Maybe not quite apples to oranges is the comparison of the Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA. This is a ton lighter in weight and incomparably more encouraging to use for edc. Yup it’s only 350lm on high but it’s impressive up to let’s say 30/40 feet conservatively. It’s also half the price. Yes I got 2 1L-1AA’s! LolThe HL-X is a solid tool no doubt. It feels great in hand. However, it’s not optimal for carrying for most people,unless on a duty belt. Other companies are way ahead of Streamlight unfortunately. FYI you might assume Streamlight is all USA made. The Protac series is not. Just saying.

The item was fine. Bright flashlight and long battery life.Amazon's shipping, not so good. At the time I ordered the item, it said that if I ordered then, it would arrive by the 23rd. Awesome! Sending it to a friend as a gift. As soon as the order was placed, Amazon page said it would arrive on the 27th. WTH??? I contacted Amazon Customer Support. They blamed it on JB Tools. I contacted JB Tools. They blamed Amazon saying that Amazon is the one with inventory who actually ships the items. On the 27th, the item was not deliverd. Amazon said driver said the address was invalid or insufficient. I know for a fact the address is valid. Called Amazon. It was deliverd a day late on 28th.

Very happy. I wanted something durable and bright enough to light up my entire yard and the woods around it. This is perfect. It outperforms other larger lights I've used. The clip is handy and it comes with a nylon case too.
