GO FOR IT!
I bought the John Petrucci JP60-MDR2 thinking I was just getting a guitar… but what I actually received was a full-blown “instant shred upgrade” for my hands and a mild identity crisis for all my other instruments. First impression: this thing looks like it should come with a warning label that says “may cause spontaneous riff creation.” The Mystic Dream finish alone is basically a mood ring for guitarists it shifts colors like it’s auditioning for a sci-fi movie every time the light hits it. I spent the first 20 minutes just rotating it like I was trying to unlock hidden DLC content. Now let’s talk playability. This guitar is ridiculously smooth. The neck feels so fast that my fingers started questioning whether they were even needed anymore. I played a simple scale and suddenly felt like I should be on a stage in front of 10,000 people instead of my living room in pajama pants. Tone-wise, it’s shockingly versatile. Clean tones are crisp and articulate, and high gain tones go straight into “please wear hearing protection” territory. It handles everything from gentle melodic stuff to full-on face-melting solos without breaking a sweat. Meanwhile, I’m over here sweating trying to keep up with it. For beginners, this is the kind of guitar that makes you practice more just because it feels good to play. For advanced players, it’s basically a reliable extension of your brain like, “oh, you wanted that note there? already done.” The tremolo system is smooth and stable, and the tuning holds up well even after some enthusiastic dive-bomb experimentation (and emotional decisions). Build quality feels solid enough that I briefly considered apologizing to it after setting it down too hard. Downside? It does not fix your technique. I tested this thoroughly. You will still miss notes, just now on a much better instrument that exposes your mistakes in HD clarity. Final verdict: The JP60-MDR2 is one of those rare guitars that works for both learners and advanced players it’s forgiving enough to inspire beginners but capable enough to keep pros happy. It doesn’t just sound good… it makes you want to become better. Also, it looks so good that you may start “accidentally” leaving it on display like a piece of modern art.

Excellent guitar
I purchased this used so it was listed at a really good price. When it arrived, it looked brand and I couldn't find anything wrong with it, except maybe the frets need a slight filing but no blemishes or anything. The stock pickups are actually decent enough that I think I'll keep them in, but may try switch to either s set of JP pickups or Fishman Fluence Tosin 7s. Out of the box, this is an excellent purchase. I've played it live a few times and the low B string is great. The paint job on this is better than I expected also, quite beautiful. Definitely give Sterling a try if you're looking at Ernie Ball but don't have the budget for those beautiful instruments.
