Product Description The master is back. Amon Tobin continues his adventures with the breakbeat on this, his fourth album. Darker, more complex, even more rhythmically driving and intense than ever before, this huge record will cement Tobins reputation as one of the most innovative and important names in dance music today. "Out From Out Where" differs from its predecessor in that "Supermodified" was made using only found sound (most of them generated by Amon himself) while here he steps back to some slightly more traditional sources (displaying in particular, a love of guitar licks). But when Tobin takes a sample source he is never happy until he has warped, filtered and messed with it until it sounds like something straight from his head. And not just anywhere in his head, but that dingy, cobwebbed corner where no one should go "Chronic Tronic" sounds like martial music for giants, listening to "Searchers" youre gripped by a terrible sense of foreboding. "Back From Space" and the intro to "Hey Blondie" have a genuine alien sense of wonder about them. Meanwhile, the beats, as exemplified on "Triple Science," sound like an entire bloco band having a bad trip in the dirt under your fingernail. And as for "El Wraith". Well, lets not even go there In fact, this has to be the most straight-up nasty album that Tobin has yet made music with the power to genuinely disturb. Shut the door, close the windows. Be afraid desertcart.co.uk Part breakbeat sorcerer, part imaginary soundtrack composer and part jazz scientist, Amon Tobin has expanded on this latest LP, Out of Nowhere, his ability to create universes full of infinite sonic possibilities and thrill-seeking surprises. The key to listening, as with all of Tobin's work, is to try and expect the unexpected. One minute this album is lifting your soul with insouciant clouds of elf-dust; the next it's violently firing sharp darts of menacing brutalism at your head. Tobin's attention to detail shines through as he weaves finely clipped vocals and swirling soundtracks with beats so stuttering and sharp you could cut your ears on them. Overall this is yet another stunning combination of artistic reverie and breakbeat-fuelled revelry from one of the UK's most erudite post-drum 'n' bass producers. --Paul Sullivan P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Review -"Literally steamrollering the opposition with this incendiary release, Tobin proves that there is life after the difficult third album." -- DJ, No 25 / Vol 3 3-17 October 12 2002-"masterfully moody and cinematic " -- HIP-HOP CONNECTION, November 2002-" a quantum leap into unknown territory " -- WIRE, December 2002-" curious, seductive beauty " -- NME, October 12 2002-" nobody does post-Art Of Noise crunching hip hop or perverted Morricone chill-out quite like Tobin." Throughout 20 years they've released varied but high quality and original output. Even among top notch artists such as Bonobo, Cinemtic Orchestra, Herbliser and Mr Scruff Amon Tobin stands out in having an original and unique style fusing drum n' bass, break beat, film noir, modern classical, kitchen sink .. And this is his best album. Now it might not be for everyone. If your taste in dance/electronica leans towards Basshunter etc you may think this is dark and foreboding stuff. And to an extent it is occasionally.Very atmospheric sometimes bordering on the spooky and unsettling. You can imagine some tunes making good incidental music for chiller/horror flicks. If you're unfamiliar with AT's stuff it's hard to say what's it's like. Certainly nothing like any of the other Ninja acts. I guess if you're into the likes of Wagon Christ, Aphex Twin, Autechre and other acts at the more warped and twisted end of electronica this album could be for you. Review: Brilliant from start to finish - Classic album. Brilliant from start to finish.

Cool
I like an album you have to listen to several times in order to make a judgement. It contains great sounds and imagination. It is well produced with an interesting combination of samples that work well together. It is well considered and is obvious a large amount of time has been spent on tweaking. There are elements in this album that remind me of and not limited to Fat Boy Slim, Ozric Tentacles and Porcupine Tree. These sounds combined with many others give a real atmosphere. I would recommend this to anyone, very interesting.

A beautiful beach with shark infested waters...
It's a completely unprecedented work of genius. No question. The same goes for the rest of his stuff. Even his stuff as Cujo, you have never heard the likes of Amon Tobin before. I'm not going to go into too much detail with regard to the tracks on the album. What i will say is that this is an album for people who love music as a whole and want to try new things. A particularly dark record in essence, it does have its lighter sides. In places. If you are bored with the samey electronica of the Chemical Toilet Brothers and such and you want something new, then this is the man for you. Expect the unexpected. Amon's music takes you places that you have never been before. The lack of innovation in the music industry right now is shocking. Thank the musical gods, then, for record labels like Ninja, Mo-Wax, Fat Cat and Warp, where the ethos is on the music and artist development, not making a quick buck. Guitar licks, saxophone, heavy bass, scattered jungle, distorted lyrics, trumpet, washboard, kitchen sink, you name it. Its all here. And its been mixed in a way that I never thought possible. Genius. The beauty of his music is its originality. Its impossible to predict where on earth he's going to go next, if indeed he stays on earth. Im not sure even he knows. The amount of innovation he displays on each record is simply staggering. Check out "Rosies" on this album and you will see what i mean. This is more of a review of the artist than this particular album, and different albums will appeal to different people. Out from Out Where is the darkest of them all, but Superemodified appeals to me the most. Its like he's directing a bizzare unsettling film in his head and its coming out as this strange noise, a bit like music. You can cut the atmosphere with a knife. Pure unbridled creativity, Amon takes you on a journey that you have never been on and will be one you will never forget. Its lovely and chilled one minute, then downright scary the next. The variety on offer is extremely vast. You can never get bored of his music and it will keep you coming back for more. Where will he go next? When are we going to get samples of his bowl movements? When is he going to score a film? All you disillusioned pop fans take comfort, our saviour has arrived.

Wow!!
I don't often give music a 5 star rating, as this would mean the CD in question could get no better - for this album I have made an exception. Having previously been a fan of Coldcut, DJ Shadow and Mr. Scruff, a friend advised me to check out more from the Ninjatune label. I looked at their website, listened to a few samples from this CD, liked it, and bought it. I can now tell you that this is one of the best CDs I have ever listened to. Not only is there a huge amount of variation, but all the tracks produced are simply excellent, every one! There has been some criticism from the music community that this Album has been purposefully made more accessable - so what? Amon Tobin has put together a great album, going from fairly light and chilled tunes, to heavy baselines and fast moving beats. I have listened to this several times, and as is the mark of any good album, with each listening it gets better and better. My only very slight criticism would be that because there is such variation in the styles of the tracks, this may be one to be played with other serious music fans to whom it will be more likely to appeal. However, this is something I have not yet tried so only a prospective criticism. Having listened to it on my own, I thoroughly enjoy it, more than any other music I have bought recently, and would encourage anyone with experience of music in the sort of vein this comes to go out and get.

Another excellent album from Amon Tobin
Amon Tobin continues in a similar vein to the also excellent Supermodified. From the first track, it becomes quite clear that Tobin is a cut above, and the drum programming is out of this world. An excellent album and a must have for any tobin fan.

This disc is one of Amon's greatest, losing only to Supermodified in my opinion. This whole album features a spacey feel. Maybe I'm biased by some of the song titles, but I really do get the feeling that I'm listening to music coming from a different galaxy/dimension. It is less organic and jazzy than his previous works, favoring insane synthesizers with otherworldy basses marking what drum and bass can be when it grows up. Back from space features beautiful arpeggios over spacey sounds that only Amon knows how to cook up, floating over crazy drum & bass-ish beats that sound organic and feel real. Rosies and Chronic Tronic feel as if the entire world is coming to an end massacred by an onslaught of gigantic robots, defacing the earth as they move through the landscape. Proper Hoodrige is downright creepy and odd, giving a certain feeling of claustrophobia pierced by a soothing flute line once in a while. There is very little humanity in this album, it is mostly an abstract work that toys with different feelings and emotions. To be listened to with a very good pair of headphones.

I have nearly all of Tobin's stuff and I have to save that if you take each work as a whole, this one is at the top of the list. I think you really have to give credit to artists who can innovate without losing the edge that got them where they are. This CD has a soldi groove to it, but has with an deep, dark center that is unrelenting and impressive. If you like some of Tobin's darker stuff, you will enjoy this. Any fan of his should find this piece 100% satisfying. From the first seconds to the last, this is one solid piece of electric magic -- he blows others in his genre away. Buy this albumn!
