The charger actually works takes along time to charge especially while the phone is in use. Still a great buy.

UPDATE: Tested with alkaline batteries. After three hours, my 10k mAh power bank was still at 25% charge, and now the light doesn't work. Will be returning this, regretfully.There's a lot to like about this item. It's compact, with an easy-open top. The LED light is bright and steady. And the price is right. That said, it does seem to be a little slow.I tested it with the only two types of batteries I had on hand, a set of Super Heavy Duty ones from a dollar store, and a national brand rechargeable type. Alkaline batteries are strongly recommended by the manufacturer, and I don't doubt they'd yield better results than what I used. But here's what I found:After one hour, the Super Heavy Duty batteries had charged my older Android from 82% to 88%. After an additional hour, it was still there. Thinking the batteries may have died, I pulled and tested them. They were just about 35% depleted.The second test, with branded rechargeables, yielded similar results. After one hour, it charged to 95% from 88%, and wouldn't go any further. Those batteries tested out at around 30% depleted.Things I think would help yield better results: A faster cable, the proper type of battery, and charging a power bank instead of directly charging a phone. I have a few 10-20k mAh banks I'm going to fool with to see if I get better results.The bottom line? It does the job, albeit slowly, and would probably charge a small flip phone more quickly. With a good supply of AA alkalines, it's a good alternative to solar for an emergency tool kit, and worth the $7 I paid. I would buy it again.

I wanted to get something that could charge my devices in case I lose power, and I found this item. It's small, compact, and easy to carry around. It is nice to know that I can still power my phone and tablet.

This charger has it's uses, however, it needs fresh, NEW alkaline batteries installed for optimum performance and will still take several hours to fully charge a cell phone. Not the most powerful thing you can buy but it is cheap and uses batteries. It will provide enough juice to dial 911 if required. Keep as a last resort backup charger.

This is the worst charger I have ever had. Instead of charging it up, it went backwards. I started at 49%, and 2 hours later it was at 48%. So I had two other people try it out, thinking maybe I did something wrong. It did the same thing for them. Instead of charging it up, it charged it down. The only thing good on it is the flashlight. Don't waste your money.

Let me start by saying this is NOT a regulated 5V source. And this is 1 of several reasons it will charge your phone slow as dirt.Without regulation, your phone cannot trust the amperage output so it will default to the lowest/slowest charging speed. I'm talking 6 hours to charge from 30% to 90% ~ be prepared to waitWith lights or any other use that does NOT require regulation, this performs excellent. It even powered a 15 watt light bar I have! That would kill the batteries in less than 30min but it proves it can output the necessary amps and work in the right scenarios.The value for the money is very poor. They sell 4-packs of essentially the same for roughly the same price. The brightness and even the fact it has an LED is useless. A wasteful feature. Completely useless.Compatibility will greatly depend on your phone. If it can handle the voltage or not, and whether it accepts a slow chargeThe weight is very light, even with batteries.Overall - it's a piece of garbage
