Bacha Coffee Kahwa! Kahwa! Ground Coffee - 250g Nomad Collection

The Bacha Coffee Kahwa! Kahwa! Decaffeinated Ground 250g comes in a fancy canister packaging but it is not sealed very well inside. This Bacha Coffee is very spendy because you get very little ground coffee for the price ($4.76/ounce).The presentation is impressive but they need to work on sealing the ground coffee in something and then putting it in the canister which would keep it fresh until sold as well as probably prevent the grounds from sifting out of the canister. For the particulars about this decaffeinated coffee: a best by date was clear on the package (and it had plenty of time for use); the coffee is very finely ground and it is okay for making drip coffee but may be to powdery for a moka pot or french press; it produced nice crema on the grounds for the drip; it is good with a velvety smooth taste and mouth feel; and, being decaffeinated, I did not detect any off flavors. It was interesting to try but is rather too expensive and not sealed very well in the packaging. I’d rather spend less on the packaging and have more of the good coffee.

I was honestly so impressed with this product. And floored with its flavor. The flavor is exquisitely balanced: deep, velvety notes with a gentle brightness that lingers politely on the palate, like the most charming of dinner guests. It’s bold enough to stand alongside a perfectly poached egg at breakfast, yet refined enough to serve after an elegant dinner with a chocolate soufflé. Presentation, of course, matters—and the packaging is simply gorgeous. It feels like opening a gift, even if the gift is just for oneself (and frankly, those are the best kinds). This is a coffee worth savoring, sharing, and displaying proudly in your pantry. It felt like a personalized gift upon opening this package and I couldn’t have been more grateful for such an opportunity to taste a coffee that I’ve never tried before. Quite frankly, it’s a good thing.

This Kahwa! Kahwa! decaffeinated coffee is from Bacha, a luxury coffee brand from Marrakesh, Morocco. It is a very finely ground (almost a powder!) medium-roast coffee. This coffee smells heavenly and has a complex, rich taste; it's definitely a BIG step up from my "everyday" blend. I suppose everyone's palate is somewhat different, but I taste chocolate and perhaps(?) a bit of orange. I normally put no sugar in my coffee and just a bit of creamer, and this coffee is certainly good enough to drink "straight." In fact, it felt kind of wrong to introduce other products! The coffee's packaging is beautiful - but also challenging. It comes in a heavy, embossed box with a clasp closure; it's pretty enough to leave on the kitchen countertop, and I will certainly repurpose the box once the coffee is gone. That said: when I opened the box for the first time, coffee spilled out. As it turns out, there's a plastic cover inside the box that had come loose, so the coffee was not secured. Perhaps that is part of the reason there was a good 2" of empty space at the top of the box. I also worry about how this impacts freshness. So sort of a design flaw, or, form prioritized over function, anyhow. I'm sure the luxurious packaging contributes to the price, too. I enjoy this coffee, it is quite good. But for ~$80/lb, I likely won't order it again. Or, perhaps I will order a smaller amount and save it for special occasions. As good as it is, I'm not sure it quite justifies the price.

This review is going to focus on two major aspects. The first is the coffee itself, the other is going to address the reasons why I rated this at three stars: the packaging. This is gourmet decaf coffee. Decaf in general tends to come pre-ground, although I'm not incredibly sure why - perhaps regular decaf drinkers are more likely to prioritize ease of use? In any case, if you are a decaf drinker and prefer to grind your own, be aware that this is pre-ground and the granules are extremely fine. It was so fine that it caused the coffee maker to overflow, as the water wasn't able to filter through fast enough to keep up with the unit dispensing water. As such, I highly recommend using this as a pour over - I suppose you could do French press, however I would be worried about some of the grounds getting around the press. Taste-wise, this is fine. It didn't really wow me, but one of my family members really liked it. She ended up making a larger pot and reheating it later - she said that it reheated without any loss of taste. Now for the packaging. This needs a lot of work. The coffee actually ended up spilling out of the container during shipping and got all inside the wrapper. It also got above the little plastic bit they have inside the container, which is intended to help keep the grounds inside and preserve its freshness. A decent sized portion of the grounds clung to the lid and I had to try and get those back into the main container area. I got most of it back, but ultimately I ended up losing a little bit. This container also didn't really close as tightly or easily as the other one did. I think there might be some grounds stuck somewhere that I can't really get at. This really needs some work as far as the packaging goes. This packaging is fine for the whole bean coffee, but it doesn't really work for grounds, especially one this fine. This is a decent coffee and if the packaging wasn't an issue then I would have rated this an additional star, but with the packaging issues this just doesn't feel like it's worth the money paid. This is absolutely intended as a gift purchase or at least something to buy to pamper yourself, and it doesn't really feel as worth it if the packaging can't contain the grounds. It looked messy when I pulled it out of the shipping box. Once it's cleaned up it looks very nice, but that isn't really going to help in situations where you want to gift it without removing the wrapping. I think it might be better for the company to either leave the beans unground, not use such a fine grind, or improve the packaging a bit. This is an expensive coffee and while yes, quality is going to cost more, you also want to ensure that the customer feels like the product is worth what they paid. I am going to give this three stars. The packaging is beautiful and once it's cleaned up it's generally fine, but at this price point the customer shouldn't have to do that. The taste also didn't really wow me. It's good, but it didn't wow me like the Paris blend did - in all fairness, I probably should have opened this one first since that other smelled really great.
