ZOMCHI Double Edge Safety Razor for Men and Women

Background: I've been using double-edge razors for nearly 15 years, and have easily tried more than 60 products available (or once available) on the market, from inexpensive plastic imports to $200+ super razors (or at least advertised as such). These days, I've more or less standardized my 3-pass approach on mild or medium razors, generally opting for a Feather blade (the Porsche of blades in my experience) to maximize efficiency and performance. Picking the Zomchi up on a lark, its sweet design caught my eye. It has side blade protection (nice), good weight, and also - as I noticed - a good deal of blade exposure and gap, indicating that it would seem to fit under the "aggressive" category. Popping in a Nacet blade (my second choice to Feather, and also my choice for new razors), I could tell the shave was immediately efficient and aggressive - 4 days of whiskers disappeared with no sound or feeling, but I did carve off a skin bump and also ended up with some weepers (after rarity for me these days) trying to perform my regular 3-pass shave. Nevertheless, the shave itself was so efficient that I contemplated my next shave - 3 days later, a face full of hard growth, and this time I went for a 2-pass shave with only touch-ups. MUCH better - just as smooth as the 3-pass version, but only one weeper and just minor irritation in one area on my neck that often needs buffing to get clean. I also noted that my "against the grain" shave on my mustache area - which usually requires both a WTG and XTG pass or I'll experience weepers - didn't require the XTG this time. That's a first for any razor I've owned, including the incredibly efficient iKON Tek and Muhle R41 razors (the earlier versions of the R41). It's possible I'm just getting better at face prep and lather than I was years ago, so I'll have to go back to those razors and see if I can replicate the outcome. I'll likely transition back to Feather (and probably try their provided DE blades too), but this is clearly a very well made, efficient tool that does benefit from a bit of a deft hand (experience) to ensure you maximize performance vs. safety. If you're new to DE shaving, keep a light touch - "like shaving a balloon" - and ensure you have a good, wet, slick lather that provides the needed lubrication. This is an absolute bargain IMO and I'll enjoy having it in my rotation.

Probably the best budget safety razor you can get, I’ve been using this for a solid 6 months and It really has a made a difference in shaving quality + avoiding the lubricating strip that is an issue with disposable razors. Safety razor quality feels premium and as long as you’re meticulous with it, should still continue to function and look like new. Like another reviewer mentioned, treat this like a sword and slowly shave, after some time though, you can get used to a faster pace and have no issue with cuts. Overall, making the switch from disposable razors is worth it, especially on a non-toxic/low-tox perspective as well.

The angle on the blade is not correct. I have used a safety razor for over a decade and bought this as a replacement when my last one broke. I've never cut myself so much as I have in the last 6mos trying to get used to this razor. And now it is rusting!! After all of these issues I am throwing this away and going back to Merkur. This is a terrible product. DO NOT BUY IT!

I'm impressed by the razor. It's not expensive, but it's well-designed and a great value. It's easy to assemble and take apart, and comfortable to use. I think the weight is just about right, and the handle is easy to hold on to. I'd have preferred knurling instead of the spiral cut for an even better grip, but it was good enough. And I love the color--blue! The razor was designed with safety in mind. When assembled the head of the razor covers the blade edges (on the side). This is important: some razors leave those side edges exposed, and while those edges are not sharpened they are still thin and sharp, and will cut your fingers under the right circumstances (such as when you're unscrewing and removing the razor head). This razor has a somewhat more aggressive cut than my current razor, so it took me about two weeks of use before I was able to consistently adjust my technique so as to not cut and scrape my face up. Switching from a Zomchi blade (more on those below) to a better one (Lord Shark Stainless, in this case) made a big difference, too. As such, I don't think I would recommend this as a starter razor for someone who is just getting into shaving with a double-edge razor, especially if they have sensitive skin, but I would definitely recommend it for someone who has some experience and is looking to get a replacement or additional razor. Five stars for the razor. The box includes two tucks of Zomchi blades (10 blades total). I use Zomchi blades as part of my rotation, and find them to be rather dull. I can only get about two shaves per blade, and while they don't nick or cut my face like other blades do, the shave isn't quite as close, and they scrape my face up. Give them a try; if they work well for you, fantastic. Three stars for the blades. So four overall.

You'll read these reviews and find a very mixed bag.... Some love the razor and others get massacred by it without reason. Tiny bit of detail that will help EVERYONE buying this thing.... The handle end with the threads has a tiny adjustment Allen set screw. Mine was set on Freddy Krueger from the factory...a couple turns with the Allen wrench and aggressiveness perfection. Otherwise finish is pretty stunning and the handle is plenty grippy (a complaint some have but seriously it's a sharp tool try holding it like one.) Blades seem on par with Wilkenson Sword but still won't hold a candle to a Feather.

The metal handle means that it is heavier to hold, but with a shorter non ergonomic handle, when shaving my legs in the shower I find it slipping out of my hands. Naturally when shaving legs, you hold it down and pull up. The combination of working against gravity, it being heavier, and shorter handled, in water, with a non grippy or shaped handle, it’s just harder for shaving legs. Also, you are the only one rotating the blade where you need it, and I find I shave really slow to not cut myself when shaving my legs. I find shaving my arms easier though, an d haven’t cut them like I have my legs. And I do feel like I have less irritation after shaving under my arms. I like the idea, but it needs some improvements, in my opinion, to be used as a women's razor.

I have owned at least 20 different razors over the years. Most of around the $50-$60 range. I also have a blacklist razor stainless steel for over $200. This $17 razor shaves better than any of them. It is on the more aggressive side and has plenty of blade feel, but man oh man, what a great shave. It is now my daily driver. I only wish it had a matching blue stand.

Been using safety razors for a while. From a 1959 Gillette to modern. The finish on this cheap one is good looking! Very attractive. But on the one I received the cap plate wouldn't screw/secure the blade down tightly. So the blade and cap was shaky. The exchange seems to be going through. Will try another one.

Ne ho provati vari di rasoi di sicurezza, trovo questo modello veramente bello esteticamente ma anche più funzionale di marche più costose. Leggerissimo, mi piace la chiusura che non fa sporgere le lame ai lati, ma un punto in più va alla distanza tra lama e parte inferiore che permette di scorrere e non premere troppo sin da subito. Le lamette in dotazione non le ho provate, ho usato le Astra verdi. Consigliatissimo.

The picture of the razor gives a false impression. It's much shorter and very heavy. It's slippery when wet And doesn't offer a great shave on the one I tested. An unspectacular shave indeed, but we're all different?

Le rasoir est en acier, très lourd et d’une belle couleur bleue. Ce type de rasoir est à la fois très efficace, économique et écologique En effet, l’achat du rasoir est un peu onéreux, mais ensuite les lames sont très économiques, et seule la lame en métal à mettre au rebut, sans tout un tas de plastique qui entoure la lame et son packaging. Des lames de rechange en pack de 50 lames coûtent à peine quelques euros. Il existe des videos sur YouTube pour apprendre à s’en servir correctement, notamment le fait d’humidifier la peau avec une serviette, l’angle de 30° etc… Cela m’a permis d’avoir un bon résultat malgré ma crainte initiale. Attention à mettre les lames dans un contenant à part pour éviter de se couper en manipulant un sac poubelle par exemple.
