Hasn't won all those awards for nothing
I resisted moving to Android (from Windows Mobile 6.5) for a long time, but I have been an HTC user and fan for about 8 years. When it came to finally moving on from WinMo (due to dwindling software support) the HTC One seemed the natural choice after a couple of year on an HTC HD2.The choice, for me, was between a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One. The two leading flagship smart phones at that time (I won't even entertain the idea of an iPhone, I'm sorry - at every inspection they have turned out to be more style over substance - good, but not as good as the competition). The HTC One was my choice simply because the S4 felt a bit plasticky. There was also the fact that I have liked every iteration of the HTC Sense interface on WinMo and the Samsung interface just felt a bit 'odd'. (That's obviously a personal thing and I know some people prefer the Samsung approach to HTC Sense). When the One arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The phone feels great. Solid, weighty enough, metal back, superb screen, AMAZING speakers... there is not one thing about the build that is wrong.Android (which I had run occasionally as a dual boot on my HD2) was extremely slick and fast. My email, contacts and calendars imported seamlessly (via Google), and there was an equivalent, if not better, app for everything I had on WinMo.The only one problem I had was an occasional 'clicking' during phone calls. Amazon swapped the phone with an advance replacement. This mean I could try out the HTC transfer app and copied everything - including settings - from the old to the new handset. It worked like a charm - quick and easy.I can honestly say that this is by far the best phone I have had. I've been a smart phone addict since long before the iPhone debuted. I've upgraded every year bar one since 2007 and I've always opted for HTC after carefully studying the other options. They have produced a couple of dodgy models, but I disregarded those in the same way I disregarded other brands when they didn't met my requirements - I wouldn;t choose an HTC just because it was HTC, it has to be right.Right now I'm using the phone for all the usual smart phone things - phone, address book, calendar, messaging, browsing, Social Media, watching videos during my commute, SatNav...etc etc etc. I am also doing web development on this phone during my commute - the screen may be a bit on the smell side but it's still easily doable.Add the IR blaster hidden in the power button, the USB On-The-Go support, the latest versions of Android and Sense (well done to HTC for keeping this model updated swiftly) and this is quite simply the best phone I've had the pleasure of owning and using.### Re Andoid 'L' version ###"Android L update for HTC phonesHTC will begin rolling out Android L updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly by other select HTC devices. The Android L update timeline will begin once we receive the final software from Google and device updates will vary based on device, region, and carrier."(From the HTC website on 26/6/2014)

This is a great phone I absolutely love it I'd recommend to anyone who wants an upgrade to get this the reason I'm giving it such a low rating is because the seller mugged me off wouldn't buy from then again... Terrible!

Excellent Phone
Tried the HTC One for a week or so. Black was my preference. Gorgeous handset. Great display, average battery, Ultrapixel camera not my favourite, but I think this is a personal preference. Overall, you wont be disappointed with the device. I actually found the speakers too loud!! Well done HTC.

To many issues
Having done my homework on choosing a new phone, I was left disappointed by the HTC one and had to return it to Amazon for a refund.Initially I liked the design and build quality of the phone but after using it for a couple of days I found a number of issues with it.Firstly it got extremely warm after a short period of use, much warmer than any other phone I have used, the battery life was shockingly bad (from fully charged down to 21% over night when I wasn't using the phone). There was also a camera fault of a green tinge down the right hand side of any photos taken. The power button was completely flush with the phone making it difficult to use (having looked at other HTC Ones in local stores I see the button issue varies on each unit meaning some are better than others)So overall I was very disappointed with the phone especially as reviews seem to say its currently the best android phone available.I have now switched to a Samsung Galaxy S4 which even though the ultimate build and finish isn't up to the HTC One I am more than happy with its performance (especially battery life of 24 hours+)

Iphone fans and users read this.
Ok first things first, i gave this phone 5 stars even though i am returning to an iphone. The HTC one is an excellent piece of kit. If you are looking for something fast, smooth, elegant everything a smartphone should be, the HTC one has it. And this is the reason i am going back to my iphone 5S because the 5S is everything that the HTC is.I got bored of iphone, i thought i wanted to be able to customize everything down to the last detail and experience the android system. And i did, however after i experienced this i realized that the grass was not greener on the android side. Yes IOS restricts the user very much so in comparison to android and yes steve jobs has created a walled garden that i am about to run back to and hop back over with my tail between my legs for the simple reason that my love of the ios system and how it does the simple things right over powers my need for customization and freewill in an OS. I found myself tinkering too much with the widgets and apps on android and actually getting frustrated that i could not get it the way i wanted and when i did i would change it two days later. And let me tell you the customization is HUGE and the play store has an abundance of apps to accommodate this.Battery life wasnt great either i would only just get a day out of the phone and that wasnt even with heavy usage but maybe that was some of my settings apps etc. I do not want to conjugate negatives for the HTC because there is very little. It is wicked fast, faster than the iphone 5. As you have prob read the camera is good in low light but in normal conditions iphone camera does triumph. If you are a fan of google and google services get this phone because it all ties in with sync and email and you can have your whole google life in one phone. If you have never owned a smartphone and you bought the HTC one i guarantee that you would fall in love with the phone and would not change it for the world. That is how i felt when i first got my iphone 3GS after having plain simple nokias and samsungs. I could not believe the things i could do with that phone and i did not look at another phone until recently. I am happy to have experienced android and to see how it stacked up against IOS and i think it is every bit as good as IOS if not better. But at the end of the day, its all down to personal preference regardless of which phone or which operating system is better. Thats why i am going back to my iphone, it is the phone that accommodates my needs the best.P.S for those worrying about buying a sim free phone off amazon have no fear, it is perfect exactly as described in description. I am on vodafone ireland and the network coverage was excellent, quick and excellent service from amazon as usual.
