Not as good as advertised.
Zero real world use ability. Quality is terrible, very difficult to setup, it doesn’t stitch scan together well at all. I’m selling mine. Very little documentation on how to use it. Not much support. stay away from this product.

Outstanding in every respect
I've been looking at scanners for a couple of years, but never bought one because after investigating them they all seemed to suffer from massive limitations. Especially the cheaper ones, priced from a few hundred to the low thousands. I found this scanner a few months ago, and saw the reviews and was pretty impressed. Of course at $3g's it better be good, at least reasonably so. Of course these scanners can go from a few hundred dollars, all the way to 6 figures. So the range of capability and prices are massive. So it's really hard to compare apples to apples.I watched the youtube tutorial videos, and again was very impressed at the seaming ease of use, and effectiveness of this scanner. I finally decided to take the plunge about a week ago.Shipping was very fast, and the packaging is first rate. The instruction manual is clear and concise. The hardware is simple to set up, as is the interface to the computer. Scans are very easy to setup and configuration is also quick and straightforward. I am completely blown away by the capability of this scanner and the David 4 software. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. You can spend a few hundred to 1000 dollars on a cheaper alternative, but what you will likely end up with is a useless piece of equipment. My advice is to either spend the $3000 to get the SLS-2 or save your money and buy nothing. There is no point in saving money if the product you end up with doesn't do the job or doesn't do it well. The SLS-2 scanner is extremely well designed, extremely effective at what it does, which is to produce accurate models of just about anything. I can't recommend this product enough. You will love this scanner.Linked below is the first thing I scanned with my SLS-2. Not an easy choice! And remember I have zero experience with scanning! http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1029974

Good scanner. Recommend for scanning of small steady object without dark or shiny surface.
Very Good Scanner. However, if someone wants to use it to scan something with black in color, he should pay some attention and find solutions to resolve. The dark area may turn into hallow space during the scanning. Also, it is impossible to scan a pure shinny object (e.g. handcraft iron-wire robot) - Dust coating may solve this issue, but I do not want to make my collection dirty. I still haven't tried to scan my face and my dolls. Anyway, I think this scanner really provides cost-effective 3D scanning solution. BTW, the software needs a license key which is saved in an USB dongle. So it provides some inconvenience as my notebook does not have so much USB port and I don't like to use USB hub. Anyhow, I am planing to buy the David SDK to achieve the automation scanning since I find that it can save my effort. As even for scanning a small toy, I need to scan about 19 times with different angle. BTW, initially I had set up an environment with white screen for scanning. However, it created a problem of the superposition. The capture included the background as an object and the software just stopped to do any super-position. I think the scan background should be black in color or we should provide enough empty space with no reflection of the light

Super detailed 3d scanner
The best 3d scanner I've ever bought! The only 3d scanner I've ever bought! After a lot of looking around out there I finally settled on the David scanner because it just has the best price to performance ratio out there. I bought this to scan clay models and boy does it work. It even picks up fingerprints on the surface of the clay! If you were to push me to come up with a gripe, I guess it's that they don't have an osx version of the software. Aside from that, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. The shipping was also crazy fast!

Works great as long as you spend the time getting the camera and projector properly calibrated. Make sure that your calibration tool is at a 90 degree angle as well, a framing square will help. Used a nextengine for years, This one gave similar or slightly higher resolution scans in a small fraction of the time. I highly recommend it.

Great value for money!
For the accuracy and quality you get, it's a truly a great investment. Furthermore, easy to use out-of-the-box with clear instructions.
