Comfort in Darkness
An excellent book, with insight into Rickson Gracie’s past, major battles, and training philosophy, as well as his plan of action on how he’s facing his newest challenge, Parkinson’s.To my mind, this is a better, maybe even deeper look into what makes Mr. Gracie tick, than his last book Breathe.Highly recommended for his fans, martial artists, and anyone interested in a philosophy of action for living the best life possible.

Great balance of story, philosophy, and martial arts spirituality as told by a master.
I am about halfway thru and have found this book to be challenging yet welcoming, direct yet subtle. While there is narrative, it is only used to illustrate Rickson Gracie’s journey of becoming not only a master combatant, but also a warrior in the everyday battles of life, the never-ending war to master oneself. If you want narrative and details, please read his great book Breathe: A Life In Flow (the audible version is excellent). This book is part spiritual/philosophical treatise, part story of a warrior’s journey, part training manual to train and develop Jiu Jitsu warriors from all walks and places in life.I am happy to have preordered and received this today. Once I finish, I plan on updating my review with more insights. So far, I have enjoyed it and feel like this is exactly what I need in this stressful, imbalanced point in my life. Rickson Gracie provides a much needed perspective and a challenge for me and all those who read to never give up and to always keep fighting. Thank you.

For Rickson fans; Some repeat material from Breathe
I am a Rickson Gracie fan so I picked this one up. I enjoyed Breathe which contained interesting behind the scenes stories of events known to the public. Breathe felt more like Rickson telling his life story, this book felt like it only touched superficially on a positive philosophy of life and Jiujitsu without revealing deeper truths. Additionally, as the headline states, the few times that some interesting anecdotal passages are included, they are repeats of what was already talked about in the first book such as the Yoji Anjo encounter. I give the book three stars, however, because despite its flaws, if you are a Rickson fan, you should find something here to enjoy. I hope he does write another book where he recounts more stories about his family and early days "in the garage" in America.

Rickson Gracie book provides an insightful perspective on what being a true warrior is.
Just finished “Comfort in Darkness” another amazing book about BJJ Master Rickson Gracie. For anyone that is searching for inspiration about dealing with life’s struggles, Rickson’s reflections and insights remind us all that we can find the warrior within!
