Subtle flavor, unique tea
This is an interesting tea. When the bag is opened, it is nicely fragrant. I mixed it like I usually do matcha (1 tsp of powder in 16 oz. cold water, with sweetener/lemon to taste). It ends up tasting like a hybrid of black tea and matcha, not like brewed black tea. It tastes less bitter than matcha, and isnโt as fragrant as a strong brewed black tea. It is interesting, but a subtle and unique flavor. If you like the taste of black tea and the texture/mouthfeel of matcha, this is worth trying.

Not my thing
I like matcha green tea, but I'm not sure about this tea. I think I just don't like it.

๐ซ great tea with lots of applications
I ordered the Matcha Moon Organic Matcha Style Wakoucha Black Tea Powder - Kagoshima Japan - 100g Resealable Bag I ordered this to make tea because I was thinking to use it similar to ceremonial Matcha, but liked the idea of trying it other ways too. I am still experimenting with other ways to use it, but I really like that this has so many different ways you can make it, including using it in baking. For drinking itโs great for on the go when youโre in a rush and you donโt wanna have to deal with steeping it or teabags or cleaning out tea pots. You just need an electric kettle and something you can shake hot (NOT boiling) water in. I will say there is a different flavor profile than my usual steeping black tea has, not in a bad way. Itโs just a bit different. I do like a bit of sugar and cream and my tea so if thereโs any subtle flavors, theyโre lost on me. ๐ You may notice that the bottom of your cup does have a tiny bit of sediment in it. I just generally donโt take the last sip and have never really had a huge problem with it. Overall, this is super easy to use. If you have the time sifting it beforehand is really helpful as it helps remove any clumps, but itโs not necessary if youโre using something like a frother or shaking it up really good. The product is really good quality and seems fresh and comes in a resealable bag, which is always appreciated. Super happy with this product.

Very delicious. Flavorful black tea powder with maltiness and hints of cocoa.
This tea tastes absolutely wonderful. No bitterness and very smooth. I love that this has black tea flavors but ground so finely which adds a richer and more unique flavor. This tea is not made from typical matcha shade grown leaves but the process of grinding the leaves so finely is why it is referred to as matcha. It's original and extremely enjoyable as well as easy to make. You only need half a teaspoon and you add it to hot water, milk or a combo. I personally prefer milk with some sugar added. The powder mixes easily and does not clump together in hot liquids. I sometimes use my mini electric whisk to make it frothier or if I make it iced, but honestly it's not necessary compared to most green tea matcha powders that require whisking. There is caffeine involved but not strong enough to give you jitters or a caffeine crash. I believe there is approximately 60-75 mg per serving. For comparison a cup of coffee has around 125 - 150 mg. This is a great value for authentic Japanese made, organic, black tea powder. There is total of 3.5 oz in the bag which (if using 1/2 tsp per serving ) equates to an impressive 42 servings total.

Wakoucha variety is "for the right person"
I got to sample the wakoucha variety. Pretty interesting to have a black tea processed in matcha fashion. The flavor is very very warm, with slight natural sweetness, something akin to the yam notes in Golden Monkey tea. I could see aficionados of unadulterated good quality Asian teas enjoying it. However, I cannot call it a broad appeal tea. It's not as simple to appreciate as matcha. The overall flavor is not strong, definitely requires appreciation for nuance. And, there is some definite tartness and earthiness mingling with the sweetness and warmth. The wakoucha is for the right person.

Taste Great, Be Sure To Mix Well
I haven't tried matcha powder before but was pleasantly surprised. It tastes great and like a stronger black tea. There wasn't any bitterness to it. It does have a different taste than brewing black tea but in a good way. I can't quite describe it but it adds some depth to it without the after taste tea can sometimes have, especially if you steep it too long. I tried it hot with 6oz of water and it was fantastic. I just would suggest making sure you mix it very well or use a frother. I had some sediment in the bottom of my cup I didn't realize until the last few sips. Not a huge deal but just be aware if you don't mix it then don't drink the last little bit. Overall a great powder and I'll definitely be enjoying the rest.

Had high hopes but disappointed
Not sure if I was supposed to treat it like ceremonial matcha or culinary grade matcha. I used my chasen to whisk it with water, it produced a lot of foam, and it smelled great too. But the taste?! Not so much drinking it straight. I added some sugar syrup to it, that made it better, but I was disappointed. I thought it would be like the black tea version of matcha, but it wasn't. I'll try it again but I'll probably steam up some milk and pour it in. So far, not impressed.
