Sure, better to have a family that knocks, but when they don’t, it’s not them that’s inconvenienced, embarrassed, aggravated, or yelling. The idea is that even if they forget civilized manners which have been taught and thoroughly reviewed, a red door hanger might jog their memory that there are other people living in this house. We can only hope.
