My personal opinion and usage: I use a Hasegawa TT-1 scriber (conical tip) to gently lay in the path, or the back of a slightly used Xacto blade (i.e. tip snapped off to give a chisel edge). Going from almost no pressure to slight pressure to get a groove that the chisels reviewed here can catch in. I found laying in the initial scribing path with these chisels a bit more of a wobbly experience. Your experience may differ. Once the path is laid in tho, these chisels excell! Angling the tip nearly vertical, the scribe is clean and sharp. The draw is smooth, unlike other rough cheapo chisels (and I don’t want to spend more time stoning and case hardening the cruddy things). The end result needs little further processing, just a 1500 grit sand and Tamiya extra thin glue to smooth out the trench. These things are quality and I recommend them. Hacky tip: Shaft won’t quite fit in an Xacto like handle, so I drilled out the center hole a bit more in the brass chuck to get the working edge closer to my hand for a lot more control.

Best value panel scribers.
I've tried the cheaper scrubbers that come with a short aluminum handle and the quality of these stedi brand ones are leagues better. Comparable to DISPAE, in my opinion. The blade edges are well honed. The sides are smooth and barrow, causing no tearing. The markings are easier to read than the DSPIAE ones.
