It didn't come with a dosing cup. Is the cap the dosing cup?

There is supposed to be a square dosing cup taped to the top as in the picture. If you close at the picture you can see the cap inside.

I drove to my mother’s house to open a bottle of mucinex dm max and i can’t get it open. i know squeeze, press down. make these bottles easier to open

This seems like a suggestion rather than a question. But Ido sympathize with your plight. My arthritic fingers have a tough time, too, and I wish for the same. It’s a struggle of frustration but I get the top,off eventually. Usually what I do is to stand the bottle upright on the counter while standing over it (not at an angle) I press down as hard as I can with the palm of my hand turning the cap at the same time. This is a safety measure that keeps the bottle from being compromised and tainted by unsavory people who would harm others. I hope this helps in some way. When you don’t feel well and can’t breathe, the last thing you want to mess around with is a troublesome cap. I hope your Mom was able to help and you are feeling much better!

If I open the cap, are you able to just pour it right away or is there something supposed to cover it?

If you are talking about a brand new bottle, then there should be an aluminum seal under the cap. If you are talking about a bottle you have opened before, then just shake and pour.
