Perfect indoor/outdoor camera that does it all
What a wonderfully executed product. For me the ability to create a local camera account on the device so I can use it with Blue Iris as well as the Tapo app are key. Everything about it is great, long wifi range, nice long cable and waterproof connection. Love it. Easy to set up, easy to use, Night vision is good but isn't even needed unless in total darkness. In fact the image quality is much better just leaving night boost off. Compatible with everything. Can't go wrong with this.

Great Security Camera at a great price!
Great security camera with very easy setup and awesome picture. The blue part is that it works with my already installed ubiquiti protect system. The price point was so much then paying over $100 for the other brand! It has a pinch zoom feature and like I already said it works with my NVR! I was skeptical but I was proven wrong and love this camera especially at its price point! Highly recommend!

Versatile, good enough for the price, compatible with Frigate
This camera does everything at a good price. Small discreet package, four illumination modes with invisible 940nm LEDs, long range 850nm LEDs, warm white LEDs, and the option to turn off the lights entirely if it’s behind a window. Simple but versatile magnetic mount, good WiFi range, stable RTSP streams, works great with Frigate. Video quality is acceptable considering the size, price, and that it’s running over WiFi. The stream bitrate is somewhere around 1mbps.

Great security camera and excellent easy to use software.
These are great little cameras and the software app is very good. Looks more like and indoor cam but works great outside even at night. The starlight option makes video at dusk very clear. The IR night vision works well too. I added extra IR lights to give clearer night time video because everything bad happens at night. I tried another TAPO camera, the C520 and I like this better. The C520 has a patrol mode and can pan and zoom and follow people if you want that but the picture on this at night is slightly better. It is pretty wide angle too and setup and connected easily. Interesting, when I bought a second C121 camera to replace the C520, it had a slighly hazy image. I tried to reach out to support to see if there is an easy way to clean or refocus it, but that was seeming like a waste of time, so I just returned it. Interesting that the replacement I just got didn't have any plastic film over the lense like the other 2. So maybe it was a return too but it works fine so I don't care. I hope they don't sell my return to someone else, it is almost OK, but in comparison to my other 2, the picture is hazy. These are smaller than I expected (which doesn't really matter I guess) and the magnetic mount and mounting arm rotates in all directions making it easy to position. You can put a screw through the mount too so it can't just be knocked down by someone, but they could rip it down easy enough if they can reach it. These look a little delicate, so I mounted it under the eave to keep it out of the rain and snow. The Tapo-TP-Link software is better than some chinese ones I tried. I had weird glitchy issues with a couple other brands, like the dates not matching up, or going off line and needing to be reset. This just works well. You can zoom in on videos which is nice. It does not have 2X or 4X speed like my other ones did which was helpful when scrolling through a bunch of clips looking for something, but that is the only feature I miss. It does not record 24x7 to the card, but you don't want to have to replay that much anyway when looking for something. The motion video indicates whether it is a car, person, pet or general motion and you can set the level of sensitivity to get more or less recordings. I turn off notifications and just use these as security cameras to look back through if something happens. This can take a big microSD card so you have lots of days saved, more that I would ever need I think. I am using a 64 and 128gb card but it takes even bigger ones. Price was great too, especially on sale. So far I am very happy with it. I will post a followup if anything changes in the next several months.

Picture is great, the audio experience not as good
I ordered this camera for my mother's memory care room. Her ipad being stolen within a month of her moving in made us decide we needed a camera in her room. And now we can see what is going on with her as well, since she is unable to give us any kind of a report. The camera might have gotten 5 stars except for the constant chirping noise I hear when viewing it (on any device.) I went to a Tapo support site, and their troubleshooting didn't help. Since I live out of town, visiting my mother 5 days per month, I didn't have time to return the camera and get another - I needed the camera in place before I left. So if it is indeed defective, which it seems to be, it was past the return window when I returned to visit, so I can't do anything about it. The other fault I find with it is the sound filter. It is great that it filters out the background noise, but it filters too much, chopping off words so I cannot hear what is being said, and I also cannot hear what music might be playing because so much cuts out. And I have found no way to adjust the sound filter setting. That makes the audio part only half useful, being able to make out a little of what is said. The picture is really good, better than a Blink camera I have used before. It was easy to install, and I like how you can hang the magnetic plate and then attach the camera. And then you can angle it to the view that you want very easily. I also really like that I don't have to sign up for a plan, since I can just put the microSD card in and it records. The only other experience I have is a Blink camera with batteries, and this is much better for our needs, since we don't need to change batteries and the picture is better. And the Blink doesn't seem to filter any of the sound, so it seems to be one extreme or the other. Since I already found a good way to hang this one and hide the cord, I will probably order another to replace the chirping one, rather than gamble on a different camera altogether. And if the next one isn't any better I can just send it back right away. But maybe the next one won't chirp and will have better audio quality. If I get it and the next one turns out better, I will come back and modify my review.

RTSP supported dope asf
First of all I used this for streaming a small bird nest on my front porch to friends and family on an http stream over a forwarded port from my network. It supports RTSP so that was possible. Granted VLC couldn't play the stream on mac (unknown issue) and linux (vlc disabled live555). FFMPEG was the solution since the audio codec is PCM ALAW so I had to transcode for both video and audio. The night vision is surprisingly good. The minimum focus distance is around 7-8 inches for good focus and around 5-6 inches for bare minimum visibility. I would prefer that distance were reduced but that's nitpicking for a $25 camera. The magnetic base is phenomenal. The bird nest is in a wreath that hangs from our screen door via a flat metal hanger so the base stuck to that easily. The degrees of freedom for the hinge is so impressive, you can crane and twist and folder the neck in more ways than expected by examining the photos. It was fairly easy to setup and it does exactly what I want, it just records 24/7. My only peeve was in the app I wasn't clear how to fully disable flash and sirens. I don't want to scare Mr. Bird. I think I configured it right as no movement sets off any alarms but the software wasn't super clear on that. Also when I first plugged it in nothing happened. I hit reset and nothing happened. I reinserted the USB-C cable and then it started working. That was a little odd but those types of hiccups are expected, I probably just hadn't inserted it all the way. Actually the cable was hard to insert likely due to the insertion point being IP66 rated so it's hard to get in and thus prevents water and dust from entering.

Great product at a great price
I love these cameras! Might be why I have 7 of them, very easy to setup, excellent picture quality, and very durable. Mine have been working for more than 5 years in fairly extreme conditions, from 90 to minus 20 they never failed. And you do not incur and monthly fee.

Look elsewhere, there are better cameras available
I have had this camera for 3 months and honestly, it has not performed great but it’s also not the worst camera I’ve ever had. So I’ll write a list of pros and cons. PROS — Easily set up. it comes with nearly everything you need for installation. — Cloud subscription is optional and no hidden fees. A free app is required. A sd card is all that is needed for recording plus playback allows images and videos to be downloaded/saved without the cloud service. — Clear video/picture quality. even on low resolution or on night vision. — Has audio and built in microphone. Audio can be disabled and speaker can be easily accessed when needed. — Camera settings are straightforward. Most settings are simple, easy to navigate and customizable. — Camera records even when WiFi is disabled. An important security feature to have at no extra cost. I believe this option only works if you have a sd card installed. — Minimalistic and sleek design. Has the look of a high end camera but at a fraction of the price compared to the name brand competitors. CONS — Audio is terrible. Often, you can’t hear anything clearly unless the sound is very close to the mic. Any talking out of the speaker is either muffled, has an echo or crackles. — Uses a.i. It can be turned off, but doing so may hinder the camera’s ability to capture vital footage. — Payment is needed for accessing maximum security features and utilizing advanced options. — Camera durability is questionable. It is marketed for outdoor use, but it’s too flimsy to be out in elements. Works best indoors. — Wifi connectivity issues. It often disconnects. Even near the router. Camera and settings cannot be accessed if not connected to WiFi. — Usb port in the camera is poorly designed. If enough force (which often is just slight movement) is applied, the cord would jolt and caused the camera to shut off. Heavy winds have been a pain. The camera is waterproof, but It doesn’t seem like it will hold up well in more intense weather conditions. The poor audio, connectivity issues and low grade camera port are the only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars. There are better quality cameras out. Some priced about the same as this one. I have, as of now, moved the Tapo camera indoors. I have bought another outdoor camera for a few dollars more from a different manufacturer and its performance has been phenomenal. So do your research and read the reviews.
