Self-cut tips and maintenance tricks that actually work
I’ve used this clipper for my own haircuts more than a dozen times. It has already paid for itself and a trip to the barber. The compact size, extra-long cord, and taper lever make cutting the back of your own head actually realistic instead of a guessing game. The motor has real power. It doesn’t bog down or snag on thicker spots the way cheaper clippers do. The self-sharpening precision-ground blades stay sharp, and the 11 Secure-fit guards (1/16” up to 1”) snap on solidly and glide instead of catching. Soft-touch grips and the smaller body give you better control when you’re working with one hand and a mirror. Tips for cutting your own hair • Start longer. First pass with a #4 or #5 on top, then drop down. You can always take more off. • Do sides and back first, top last. Comb everything forward so you can see what you’re cutting. • Use two mirrors (handheld + wall) for the nape and behind the ears. The extra-long cord and compact body help you actually reach those spots. • Keep the clipper moving in short overlapping strokes. Don’t press hard. • Use the taper lever with a guard still on to blend between lengths instead of constantly swapping combs. • Cut dry or only slightly damp. Soaking-wet hair compresses and you cut shorter than you meant to. • Save the outline (neckline and around the ears) for last. Use the smallest guard or no guard with the lever closed and go slow. • Stop halfway, shake the hair off, and look again. Fresh eyes catch the uneven spots. Maintenance so it keeps running like new • After every cut, brush the blades thoroughly with the included cleaning brush and the smaller detail brush. Packed-in hair is what makes it start tugging later. • Oil the blades after every couple of uses. A drop on each side while the clipper is running, then wipe the excess. Dry blades heat up and pull. • Wipe the blades with the cleaning cloth. If you take the blade off, rinse under warm water, dry completely, then oil before putting it back. • Always store it with the blade cover on so the teeth don’t get dinged in the case. • Don’t wrap the cord tightly around the body. A loose loop protects the strain relief. • Every few months check that the blade is seated and aligned. If it starts to chatter or leave lines, oil it and reseat it. The kit has everything you need in the case: clipper, 11 guards, two combs, scissors, brushes, cloth, oil, and instructions. After a dozen cuts I’m still getting clean, even results. If you want to stop paying barber prices for a basic cut, this one does the job.

Looks and feels cheap but is actually quite durable
I've been cutting my own hair for twentyfive years with Wahl clippers. We have a cow, my wife milks the cow and to make milking easier and cleaner she loves to give the cow a Brazilian.....she likes to sneak my Wahl clippers out to the barn to do it. We've had the discussion many times about not using my clippers to shave the cow. I had a previous model which was heavier with a sturdy feel. The guards were hard durable plastic. However, the electric cord was very thin. I bought my wife a small trimmer at Walmart to use on the farm animals but when a neighbor called hysterical about an injured rabbit, my wife snuck my Wahl clippers out again to assist in rabbit surgery. We had to have "the talk" again and I planned on buying the most expensive clippers I could find, paying extra for overnight shipping and having it gift-wrapped....and my wife says I have passive-agressive tendencies....anyway I found these clippers on Amazon and bought them for her and whatever animal she felt like shaving for whatever reason. When the clippers arrived they looked cheap and not very durable but I tried them just to see how well they work. Turns out, the clippers are very light weight, easy to hold and maneuver. Although the guides seem to be brittle plastic, they work very well and are more durable than they look. The cord is heavy duty which is great since the electric cord is usually the first thing to go. Fell in love with these clippers and ended up giving my old ones to my wife. By the way, the rabbit survived and is healing nicely. I won't say the Wahl clippers saved its life, they're great but can't perform miracles. I would definitely recommend these to anyone considering buying a clipper set for your hair......or your cow....or your rabbit, maybe even your dog.

A downgrade in quality from 10 yrs ago - otherwise works!
Bought an MH-10 or MS-10 model for $20 at Walmart in 2007. It lasted up until 2019 when the cord strain relief broke. It was a good solid-feeling chrome unit with some heft and quick smooth operation. Could have replaced the cable but decided to save myself trouble and replace with a new clipper. I usually cut my hair at home. This new self-cut clipper slightly smaller which I like, and with a bit of a curve to help with self-cut ergonomics, but has that light Chinese plasticy feel. It is a lot louder buzz, vibrates, and the height adjustment lever is distinctly cheap and flexible. It almost certainly wouldn't survive a drop to the floor. The lever rubs on the body when traveling through its range... why did Wahl not address this? The rubber overmold is nice feeling but after a trim it is difficult to wipe the clippings off the rubber. A smooth plastic with some molded smooth bumps would have been better. Without a guard, this clipper will also nick the skin, whereas the older one did not. With a guard installed (they assertively click on), these clippers cut beautifully. Not complaints on its ability to cut hair. Portability is touted as one of its selling points, but oddly, the plastic carry case is much larger than my older larger clipper from Wahl. The case is also of a thinner plastic and just feels floppy. I transferred the contents into the old case and will continue to use until I have time to replace the cable on the old buzzer. A minor suggestion to Wahl would be to include some type of holder for the guards. Why is it considered normal to have more than a dozen loose objects rattling around in the case, if most people only really need to use the same 2 or 3 things each time? Lets get organized! These are made in USA, so I will continue to support Wahl, but would be nice not to see quality degrade, especially as cost is increased.

I Truly Like Everything About It
It is very satisfying to find a manufacturer who genuinely cares about all aspects of their product. This is my first haircutting kit and I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. To start off with, I am very particular about packaging, and it is evident that Wahl also cares about this. The clipper comes in a sturdy, cleanly branded cardboard box sealed with a Wahl sticker, so you know that it is new. Inside is the well-designed, functional plastic carrying case holding the easy-to-read instructions, the clipper, attachments, cleaning brushes and oil, two combs, and a pair of scissors that work very well. I will continue to keep the clipper and all accessories inside the plastic carrying case that I will put back in the sturdy, rectangular-shaped box after each use to keep everything together and for ease of storage. They advertised this model as being quiet, which is one of the main reasons I selected it. And it is in fact noticeably quiet. I received this product yesterday and we used it today. This was my first ever home haircut and the first time my wife has used a clipper. Its ergonomic design, solid build, and balanced weight clearly prove it is high quality. It was a lot easier to use than either of us thought it would be. And I was very satisfied with the outcome! We errored on the side of caution and decided to use only the #8 attachment and scissors to start with. That is all we needed! Wahl, thank you for taking pride in your products! I highly recommend this Wahl Clipper kit. Extremely high quality at a very reasonable price.

Quiet, gentle and efficient.
I have been using clippers to cut my thinning hair for years now. I usually take my hair down to about 1/4 inch, not down to zero. In the past, I have used the Wahl Peanut, the Remington Short Cut, and the Oster Model 10. The Wahl Peanut was great, but it is very noisy and I found some of the comb guards to be sharp. Since I have a sensitive scalp, I filed the points down, but it wasn't ideal (even if it cut very well). The Remington Short Cut was wider and quiet, but my experience has been that cordless clippers just don't have much power. Even though my hair is thin, the Short Cut still managed to pull, so I stopped using it. As for the Oster, while it cut well enough, it was too heavy and, probably because I am an amateur, I found it really cumbersome. I was constantly worried about banging my scalp with it. I feel like Goldilocks saying this, but it is true: this Wahl is just right. It really is quiet; that is not a lie. It cuts really well (no pulling, no scratching the scalp). And the size is perfect (bigger than the Peanut, but smaller and lighter than the Oster). Oddly, it seems to me that my hair feels smoother and softer after using this. Sometimes, with the other clippers, my hair felt like velcro after a cut. Not so with this. In short, this Wahl works exactly as advertised. I highly recommend it, especially if you have a sensitive scalp as I do.

Get The At Home Clipper
I've cut my dense, coily mess of a hair several times along with edging and these still cut like a champ. This clipper is sharp and easy to hold, and the taper lever stays put! The comb attachments are strong and clip on just right and tight. The blades also remain even. I've bought other pairs only for them to dull out and shag up my hair giving it an unkept look after only a few uses (kept one of these bummers for unmentionable use since that's all they're good for now). And the blades of the other clippers somehow became uneven and I had to keep adjusting. With model 79467 tho, no shag or pulled look and a very sharp/clean and even look. I have yet to use these to give myself a fade like when I used the other clippers, so can't say how they hold up against doing that; my hair has destroyed other clippers, I promise you lol. But I think if I keep this clipper properly by oiling, it'll probably still cut like a champ. I dont plan to cut my hair that far anytime soon, so I can't speak on it. But so far it has done the style I am doing for my head now (just not cutting as much hair all at once) and I'm very satisfied with these. They are a bit noisy but fades out once you focus; just cut with music on for a therapeutic cutting. Overall great value and quality for the price and hope it stays that way.

One of the best personal hair clippers on the market
I only purchased these because it happened to be the most economical clipper that came with a lever and the often-omitted 1-1/2 guard. But I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance of it, especially at this price point. The smaller form factor gives you a lot more control and nuance when blending fades on your own head; a bigger clipper will cut more and thus be faster, but increase the chance of a mistake. The blades are sharp and cut close out of the box. The motor has this bassy low-end rumbling sound, but it's not very loud and not at all annoying. Perhaps most importantly is that it does not get hot to the touch even during long sessions. The downsides? There is only one that I can think of. The wire to plug it in is thick and doesn't always lend itself to being easy to maneuver; you might have to reposition it at times to get it out of the way -- the other side of this is that the machine can draw more power from the wall without heating up the wire or the motor.

This is the greatest clipper set ever made. It is the work of the gods.
Just incredible performance. Glides through even thick hair with ease and evenly cuts whole sections with 1 pass. I cut the sides of my head to a 0, and it's so perfectly uniform even at that length. It only took one pass to get that length, and my hair grows very thick. The ergonomics on this thing are perfect as well. You can cut from any angle, anywhere around your head, and it remains easy to hold. I never felt I couldn't get to part of my hair because I couldn't reach. I used to use a cheaper set of consumer clippers, which took forever to get through my relatively thick hair. It would take me at least an hour to cut my hair, doing multiple passes over sections that it couldn't get through quickly. Even once I was done it wasn't very even, it was hard to make clean lines, and I couldn't get it as short as I wanted, it would just leave hair behind even without a guard. Now I can cut my hair in minutes, so much more evenly and easily. If you cut your own hair, you need these clippers. Don't even think about anything else. It will change your life.
