Great replacement

My wife became locked in a room because the inner mechanism in the fitted lock disintegrated with age. I decided to purchase 12 of these to replace all the mortice locks in the house as they were over 20 years old. They are easy to fit and come complete with screws. The measurements stated were accurate. Having fitted these we realise how bad the original locks had got. The action is so smooth now.

It's very inexpensive, so I wouldn't necessarily expect it to last a lifetime. I've bought a few of these now, and the quality seems to match the price. I fitted one on my son's bedroom door about 7 years ago, and it's still working well. I bought another recently for our dining room door. You can probably extend the lifetime significantly if you only turn the handle to open the door, and close it by pushing shut without turning the handle. But, for the price, I have no complaints at all. My only minor gripe is that the strike plate is completely flat, where there really should be a slight bend in the tab that sticks out, to guide the latch in smoothly; however, bending it manually with a couple of grips is not difficult.

This tubular latch is sold off £2.99 as a prime item through Amazon (January 2018) Prime items come with a promise of next day delivery to Amazon prime members You cannot rely on the next day delivery promise. There is no indication as to any potential additional postage charges for non prime members. The latch is a good budget example and will do all that is required to be done. I bought this as a replacement for a “dead” latch. Replacement was very quick and easy. Simply remove two screws push the latch in, correct way around for the door closure. There is no doubt that it is a budget, unbranded item. There are no markings and the metal assembly is rough and ready. All that said, this is very good for the cost and will do all required of it.

Most of the product looks OK but I'm slightly hesitant about the plastic part that accepts the metal spindle . Not sure how long this will last as I'd have thought it would sturdier had it made of metal.

Please note that the critical measurement for these items is from the back of the front fixing plate to the center of the square turning part (which the turn bar goes thru.This may seem obvious but the dimension always quoted is the overall length which you may not know. I point this out as l wasted a journey and £2.50 at Tool Station buy buying the wrong one.However this one fitted and seems to be great quality if more expensive.

Good value for money and do the job. My only issue was with the strike plate. These are narrower than most so as a replacement not ideal, but if you can keep the existing, not an issue.
